Just completed a draft of 8 teams, 60secs a pick in about 30mins. Quite impressed with the mechanics! Very Interesting.

Was pretty slick. Would be interested to see if there is a way you can copy your watch list order from one draft to another?

I'd like to practice a test draft before the real one, but tomorrow evening I'll have to watch my team EL preliminary 1st leg in Romania.
I'll check at last minute for a still free slot, if we seal it in 1st half ;)

Please do.
I've stuck with the default 90 second time limit. Test Drafts seem to be taking around 30-45 mins regardless of numbers and time limits I think.

Cheers Guys.

You can view the full draft here https://ratemyteam.uk/Fiso/DraftLeague/41257.
It's showing the time as 7 minutes, but I think that should be 67
I think we gave the autopick a real bashing tonight

I'll leave the league up until Monday so everyone has the weekend to have a play and do any analysis they want. If anyone needs it longer than that then give me a shout.

Quite a contrast between my first draft and this one. Both with 9 players and a 90 second clock. 1st one just over 30 mins; this one over an hour!
I think in my first draft everyone was picking quite quickly and I often felt like I really needed the 90 seconds.
In this one however, there were many times that people were letting the clock run down and it felt like I had an eternity to sort my picks out.

I'm happy with the team I ended up with though.

Wha? That seems silly to me if true. Or even a bug.

I tried this out in my last draft and found that if you change the order by dragging and dropping your selection to the top of the watchlist then it gets autopicked as you'd expect.
However, if you change the priority manually using the buttons next to the number then it doesn't alter the order.
But if you change the priority manually by typing over the number and pressing 'enter' then the order will change immediately.

I took part in the test draft last night. Using my Samsung J3 I couldn't choose any players. My entire team was based on my watch list.
I also had to keep refreshing the page to keep up with all the other players when they were making their picks.

I have a draft for real on Saturday night. I'll be using my laptop this time.

hi Mav, sorry if I address this in public, but it's a contribution not a criticism :) (you know I can't stop praising you actually)
and it could be of interest to others who'd like to embark in tinkering there as well

it looks like you overlookd to consider that drafts pick time can be set over a minute as well,
so no pick times in your tool are over 60s, and the draft whole time ignores the hour (7m instead of 1h7m)
{that's of course just what I imagined could have happened, the actual reasons might be different}
https://ratemyteam.uk/Fiso/DraftLeague/41257
I can't do programming
but I took the original draft data from last evening test, thanks to the api url you disclosed to us all
https://draft.premierleague.com/api/draft/41257/choices
  • pasted the "choices":[...] list into word, replaced },{ with line breaks, and copied that into excel
had thus a column with a single choice data into each cell
used the embedded excel text parser to break it into columns
calculated with simple excel formulas the elapsed time between each pick
sorted by each team in draft order
highlighted those marked as "was auto = true"
    • in yellow, the first autopick for a team whose previous pick was manual
that's supposed to count down the whole time, and mark the player offline afterwards
    • in green, the following autopicks for the same team marked as offline, which are supposed to take 0s, and they did
    • in orange, those which were supposed to be green, and instead counted down the whole time.
Maybe the player had marked himself back as online, but then let it pass again? :?
here's my outcome
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... LfcfB_yKS0
this way it will also remain available after deleting the league :)
it's read-only, download it to tinker (you can for instance sort by "index" to restore the original draft order for all picks)
alas I couldn't lookup the "element" IDs which I figure identify the football players
you might use it Mav as cross-check to fine-tune the time counting in your excellent tool :)

We can see in the SUMMARY tab, the average time per pick is actually almost 30 sec
if we take out the autopicks, the manual pick average is 24s so the autopicks made it longer
4 players never let the system autopick
3 only used it twice (and as OIEIAO posted in the Chat, it was rather due to connection falling and to awkward interface handling it)
GH always autopicked, but afterr first round, only 6 times it took 0s, the other 8 times it counted the whole time :?
maybe he attempted to connect but it was unstable, until he gave up?
tdl missed first one, then manually chose rounds 2/3/4, then went offline in roud 5
here all his following autopicks were immediate as expected, except round 9 (where he maybe marked hiself online?)

BTW, interesting to note, full-time autopicks took actually 93-94 seconds, not 90

here's a plot of pick times in Draft order from the left, by round

Image

we had 135 picks, 33 thereof on auto
of the 102 manual ones, only 9 were above the minute (for a total of 709s instead of 540s), while almost all the others were under 45s
17 autopicks took the full time, 16 were immediate
setting the pick time limit to 60s instead of 90s, we'd have spared just 11 minutes (679s = 709-540 + 17*30), it would have taken 56' anyway
(not counting the influence on other picks eventually due to a quicker turnaround in those cases)

and here's sorted by the 9 teams first, in their respective draft order

Image

were we slackers? did we ponder more? did other quicker tests have more offline teams, with more 0s picks?
I for instance (#7) have the most manual ones above the minute (3), can't recall exactly bu I think I was switching windows on mobile to check on FPL Transfers the rosters of relevant PL teams, to verify which def or mid was more likley to have game time, as I hadn't time to prepare any Draft watchlist (nor any FPL draft at all yet). Probably I took more than a minute in those cases because I knew I could...
but then only had 3 in the 30"-45" range, and 9 (60%) under 15"

I figure 60s should be OK for most managers, while cutting it to 30s would put a few mangers in some difficulty.
BTW, in 9 there are a few barely decent unsigned players for our transfers, but no more than stopgaps, not team-changers
while this would support the advice of those who say to not exceed 8, in a draft game with FPL scoring,
otoh why should you fret to have a Draft lastin half an hour instead of 1 hour?
it's the most important moment of a draft league, as far as I could tell so far, what's the problem if it takes 1 hour or maybe even two?

hi Whisperer, I hadn't checked your post before submitting my long one, here's explained :)
I used a Samsung Galaxy A5 2016, not bleeding edge, fpl interface required a bit of scrolling and it felt a little cramped, but at least I had no connection problems
I'll be doing my real league draft using that, I'll have to adapt.

It's very unlikely I'll be joining anywhere near 10 leagues so I'm certainly happy either way. Though f4c picked Kolorov as a joke in that one so maybe he won't be so keen (and some used it as practice).
