Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
This could be the most boring season ever
Everyone knew the top 2 and could have guessed positions 3-6 but Mclaren - last and last but one ? Five and six seconds off the pace.
That's woeful

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Didn't Button say they would be second fastest given time? Lack of mileage in testing seems the main issue.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Alonso might not be in too much of a rush to get back for the next couple of races, at least...
Always going to be a tough ask for a "new" engine supplier to hit the ground running in today's F1. And is the Manor-Marussia "return" just a charade to prevent them having to make two teams run a third car this season? Sauber might have been best placed to fill that quota

Nothing will beat the boredom of 2013. At least Hamilton as some competition in Rosberg as oppose to Webber's diabolical challenge to Vettel

15 cars on the grid
Highlight was a sticking wheel nut.
My god I hope things pick up.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Surely they got the tyres wrong if a one-stop strategy was possible?
Just hurry up and bring back refuelling so we don't have the stupid fuel conserving tactics. Also it's not a good sign that overtaking seems harder than in recent years even with DRS.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
This isn't new news actually as it is a relationship that goes back to 2012. Sauber had a phase in 2012/3 where they were clearly chasing money around Russia to try and keep running in the sport, including signing a Russian teenager with no obvious ability to a development contract.MoSe wrote:errmmm... didn't know whether it belonged in FPL, so I came here

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
well, I watch (almost) every GP (since... well IIRC since Lauda & Regazzoni, and even before that, I have vague memories of watching Ignazio Giunti fatal accident)
and only noticed it now seeing a Nasr Sauber close up in a magazine with last GP pics
it must be that I wasn't into PL before this season, and could not recognise Chelsea logo at first glance, not before having played a few months FPL

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Didn't mean to suggest you'd missed the story. It had largely been ignored by both footy and motorsports publications at the time as being fairly irrelevant and inexplicable to both sports.
Good knowledge re Giunti. I had to look that name up

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
25 place penalties for both McLarens... there aren't even that many cars on the grid!
May as well just suspend the team for a race, surely?

And yet they've bothered to come out on track in Q1... may as well just stand around in the pit lane and eat ice-creams, Kimi style.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
If they don't "use" all 25 places of penalties going back to the back then they get more time penalties in the race I think. Not sure exactly how it works but JB said he would have to pit for a 'stop & go' penalty early doors.forestfan wrote:And yet they've bothered to come out on track in Q1... may as well just stand around in the pit lane and eat ice-creams, Kimi style.

Neither got past about lap 10 anyway... Jenson will be wishing he had switched to sportscars or something.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Alonso was considering Sportscars for next year but then he heard Kimi wouldn't get a new Ferrari deal and might go to Sportscars so decided F1 was the safer option...

I thought they were already driving TVR's, although TVR's are more reliable.Mystery wrote:Fully expect to see Button and Alonso in sportscars within a couple of years.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Yeah, F1's a very young man's game these days. Once those two, Kimi and Massa go, Lewis will be about the oldest I thinkMystery wrote:Fully expect to see Button and Alonso in sportscars within a couple of years.
Teenagers driving F1 cars just isn't right though. It should be too physically demanding for that to be possible, whatever their talent.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Well they are doing something to prevent inexperienced and unsuccessful drivers joining F1. From next season there's an age limit and a points system under which drivers must demonstrate skill other than presenting a stuffed wallet.
It would have prevented Verstappen joining but would have also prevented Button and Raikkonen joining way back when as well.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
They should have to do at least one season in GP3 then at least one in GP2 to be eligible. Would boost the relevance of the so-called feeder series as well as the experience of the rookie F1 drivers.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Sad news today but it's seemed inevitable over the last few months. A reminder that even in an era of remarkable safety improvements motor sport still is dangerous. RIP Jules

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
Yep very sad - RIP Jules
On a slightly positive note, he reportedly had a kind of "living will" with his family that he didn't want to be artificially kept alive with massive disabilities - seems like they honoured that and turned the machines off. Very brave decision (and imo the right one) but must have been so difficult for them.

Re: F1 specific (chit chat thread)
RIP Jules. At least the family has some closure now I suppose, rather than him potentially remaining in that condition for years.
F1 (or any other motorsport) will never be 100% safe, but this was a foreseeable and potentially avoidable sort of accident and hopefully the legacy will be that something like it isn't given the chance to happen again.
