Some possible Madrid outcomes:

- If Murray wins the tournament he will be number 2 in the world next week

- If Djokovic makes the final (he's in Nadal's half of the draw), Murray will be back down to number 4 if he fails to make the semis

Currently Murray 5-5 Bolelli in 1st set

Murray's quarter-final defeat to Del Potro means that Djokovic will return to number 3 if he beats Nadal today

In my opinion that was a tactical loss so Murray does not have to play Federer
in Semi

Federer has a real mental problem with the Scot and Murray wants this to continue
into a possible meeting at Roland Garros or Wimbledon

Nadal wins a 4 hour classic 3-6, 7-6, 7-6. Murray will be number 3 seed at Roland Garros

The battle for number 2 is really gonna add spice to the up coming Slams

The French Open has thrown up many surprises

Murray joins Nadal and Djokovic as unexpected losers

Only one of the Big Four Left

Federer

He has never won the French

Will the occasion be too much for him

You get the feeling that soderling or gonzalez will need to bottle it not to win the final. They are both playing unbelievable tennis!

I don't think they will bottle it

It is just that down the other end of court will be Federer

Rankings update:

Nadal, Rafael (ESP) 13140
Federer, Roger (SUI) 11070
Murray, Andy (GBR) 9230
Djokovic, Novak (SRB) 8020

With Nadal an injury doubt (and the courts apparently quicker) Federer is the favourite for Wimbledon. It now looks more likely that he will be returning to number 1, rather than Murray breaking the top 2.

Great result for Murray yesterday but is it just me or is his serve puny in comparison to everyone else. Wahrinka's first serve was 125-130, Murray was 105-110, was this deliberate (although he hardly got many in which given the pace he was serving was a surprise).

I just can't see him beating Federer as he will be all over his serve and in comparsion Federer will win his service games more often than not easily.

Don't get me wrong I'm supporting him enthusiastically as anyone but I just don't believe he will get a sniff from Fed especially in the form he is in.

It could have been a deliberate tactic - I didnt see last nights match. But in the previous round he was hammering down ace after ace. I saw 3 in a game more than once.

It was strange and not picked up on by the commentary team.

Anyway, how can you polish something that doesn't exist, unless it was in your dream.

I think it could've been a tactic to take pace off his serve. Wawrinka is a pretty big hitter and in the past Murray has commented that when playing the bigger hitter's(Gonzalez etc) he tries to take the pace off so his opponent can't use it to his advantage. Ferrero is more of a work horse so don't be surprised if Murray is far more aggressive.

Murray said afterwards that because it was Humid with the roof on the Balls
were heavier.

As a result he didnt get free points on his serve and
there were longer Rallies

Dont Blame it on the Sunshine
Blame it on the Roof !!!

Seems feasible except Warwinka still seemed to hit it bl**dy hard

Had to listen to the usual nonsence from people today saying that performance showed he can't win etc etc. I wish these idiots would just not watch sport as they have no clue at all about anything. They shuld stick to soap operas.

Warwinka raise dhis game yesterday, Murray played just below his and thus the match was close.

Tomorrow Murray may play at his best and Ferrero may play below his best and Murray will win in 3 and they'll all be back saying Murray will win

He's not good enough to beat Fed imo on grass, highly motivated and at Wimbledon, but more than good enough to beat everyone else (bar Nadal).

I would have Fed just ahead but of course he can beat him. If he plays his A game and Fed is not quite at his very best then Murray will win. If they both play at their very best then Fed would edge it IMO, but how often in any sport do both perform at ther very best.

Let's not forget Murray has a winning record over Fed.

True he does have a good record but only in muppet events, when the pressure is on and Fed is up for it it will be a synch like the US open see below. Murray for sure has improved a lot since then and Fed has aged/dipped. But it will still be 3-0. Murray's superior H2H record gets under his skin, you only have to listen to some of his interviews and you see that he can't wait to put the record straight plus there is the little matter of reclaiming his No 1 spot.

BNP Paribas Open
2009-03-21 Semifinals A. Murray 2-1 R. Federer 6-3 4-6 6-1
Qatar ExxonMobil Open
2009-01-09 Semifinals A. Murray 2-1 R. Federer 6-7 6-2 6-2
Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, Red group
2008-11-14 Round Robin Group 1 (1/4) R. Federer 1-2 A. Murray 6-4 6-7 5-7
Mutua Madrilena Masters Madrid
2008-10-18 Semifinals A. Murray 2-1 R. Federer 3-6 6-3 7-5
US Open
2008-09-08 Final A. Murray 0-3 R. Federer 2-6 5-7 2-6

The Dubai Tennis Championships
2008-03-03 1/16 R. Federer 1-2 A. Murray 7-6 3-6 4-6
Western & Southern Financial Group Masters
2006-08-16 1/16 R. Federer 0-2 A. Murray 5-7 4-6
Thailand Open
2005-10-02 Final R. Federer 2-0 A. Murray 6-3 7-5

I thought he was very impressive last night. Guts and determination got him through....

The court seemed very slow with the roof closed, which may give him the edge in a Final against Roger?

Pretty much agree with that though think if they both make it it will be close.

Always felt a tad sorry for Murray in that US Open final as it was so windy and he simply didn't seem to have the experience to know what to do, where as Fed played perfectly in it.

To be fair, he is a completely different player to that US open but my point was that Fed will step up to the big occassion, he has been there done it, Murray has still to prove himself in the majors. (the US open this time around will be a good gauge). Anyway I really hope to be proved wrong as I can't wait to see it but it will be a right anti climax if one or both doesn't make it which everyone assumes is a given.

Blah - Roof only an issue if it is used and then he will have an edge assuming Fed hasn't experienced it in QF and SF.

Think Murray will stuff Ferrero btw.

Bold can be arranged, and I agree. Getting there will be harder than winning it.

I am not convinced Fed will be in the Final

Im certainly not backing against Federer, but he does have a horrible next match. I saw Karlovic beat Tsonga, and it was as impressive a seriving performance as they come. Massive and fighteningly accurate I think it was above 75%, which for a serve that big is aweseom. It wouldnt be an earth shattering suprise if Karlovic won.

But Federer is 8-1 up in the head to head... so thats why im not backing against him :P
