bloggie wrote:No typing error. The Stone Roses' 1st album may have had the hits but I prefer the second by far. Also I must of played the OK Computer album that many times that its impact gets diluted though still a great album so could probably replace it with either of 2 from the 90's.With The Bends maybe the same applies though I did rather stop playing that album once their latter albums emerged.

Nice selection Bloggie. 8-)

I had to refrain from listing more Floyd albums, I could also of added In Rainbows and Amnesiac to my selection too.

I'm similar to you... rarely play OK Computer or The Bends. Yet the last 4 albums get regular airings. Going to see them tomorrow at LCCC :D

For Fathers Day my 14 year old daughter got me 'New Wave Heroes' (or something very similar) compilation cd - while I enjoyed it, two things stuck out to me:

1) at the time I didn't rate UK Subs at all, but i'm now loving 'Warhead' to bits

2) 'Into the Valley' by Skids must have one of the best intros going ... although once the words kick in, the song goes down hill for me

Buying and playing "The Stone Roses" is etched on my, and many people's memories, as a moment to savour in our lives. Uplifting, awe inspiring, joyous. Big fat smile. For weeks.

Buying and playing "Second Coming" one of the most dissappointing. Cobbled together self parody.

The former is perhaps the best first album ever. The latter perhaps the biggest let down.

A few other contenders:

Are You Experienced by Hendrix, In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground And Nico, The Smiths, Definitely Maybe by Oasis, Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division, Led Zepp 1.

Love this thread! :)

60's
Abbey road the beatles
Notorious byrd brothers the byrds
Led zep 2 led zeppelin

70's
Whats going on marvin gaye
Nevermind the b@@locks sex pistols
Led zep 4 led zep
Rumours fleetwood mac

Cheating a bit but also that 3 disc rolling stones london years compilation which is basically the best of them 60/70's

80's
The stone roses the stone roses
Fear of a black planet public enemy
Thriller michael Jackson
The smiths very best of (not proper LP but still had to be in)

90's
The second coming the stone roses
Definately maybe oasis
Screamadelica primal scream
Pills n thrills n bellyaches happy mondays
Urban hymns the verve
The la's the la's

00's
Kasabian debut
Favourite worse nightmare arctic monkeys
The last broadcast doves
Wait for me pidgeon detectives
West ryder lunatic asylum kasabian

10's
DMA's debut
The blossoms debut

On second coming by the stone roses, i get its not as instantly loved by the masses as the debut LP (greatest ever LP IMO) but i think its truly epic record! IMO Love spreads is the greatest song of the last 23 years, ten storey love song is an absolute classic, breaking into heaven is pure and utter genius and contains my favourite guitar solo of all time near the end, how do you sleep is sublime pop that couldve graced the debut LP etc etc

I reckon there is plenty of people that if they give this record another go then they'd be pleasantly suprised

A timely bump for this thread; Coincidentally (from my post at the top of this page)

I'm going to see them the day after tomorrow at LCCC.
And doubly coincidental... I've just listened to the whole of OK Computer whilst walking the dog this morning.

I was thinking of launching a "Best 10 albums from the past 10 years" thread - it would be a rolling thread, so people could update their list annually, as the 10-year period changed. Anyone interested? (Don't post your 10 yet - I'm just testing the water.)
