My Pink Triangle (rip)
My trusty and really rather groovy Pink Triangle has finally expired and I've learnt today that there isn't much I can do about it.
Fantastic performer with a platter that looks like a giant kendal mint cake.
Been spinning discs for me since 1985.
You will be sadly missed.
It does however mean I might get a new deck for Christmas.
(wont be the same though or as good)

What about something like this spiny where you can record your chunes digitally for those long bus journeys while you play them?

RIP
I need a record player too, Spiny, but one that converts to MP3, as mentioned by Achiles.
Problem is some of thse vinyl to MP3 thingies have dodgy stylus's (is that stylii ) that do the record no good whatsoever.
PS Spiny With your expansive record collection I think you did rather well to get 27 years out of your trusted system
Thinking somewhere like Richer Sounds in Brum may do you a good deal

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
I haven't played a record for about 10 years since my Dual died.
Keep meaning to get an MP converter one but not sure there is a genuine 'hi-fi' one out there that could be a genuine deck for playing music on as well as a way of going to MP3.
If anyone knows of a cheap enough one (I'm not willing/able to spend a fortune on it) .....

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
I wont be looking to replace like for like as that will be silly money seeing as there are now so many other formats that I listen to. I still use a hi-fi style cd recorder/writer and then convert to mp3 on my computer so luckily I don't need any vinyl converter thingy's. I'm currently considering a Rega RP3 although the shop I am dealing with (Music Matters) keep trying to tempt me with the RP6 at £998.
I also want to continue to play vinyl as it sounds better than cd or mp3 but then again we have had that debate before.

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
Sorry to hear, spiney. Stuff 'll never sound the same again but hopefully swings & roundabouts when you get a new deck.
For those talking about ripping vinyl, you don't need to buy the modern deck converter, just get the appropriate software and then connect your deck to your PC via a jack. I did this a few years back so the software must be cheap if not free by now.

Just to add to what Flyman says... It's worth picking up a Phono Pre-amp because it boosts the signal from the turntable to a line level output for optimum quality.

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
Which turntable did you opt for in the end, Spiny?
My old Dual 604 has served me well but I'm in the market for another TT.
Got a budget of around £300-£350.
Keep looking at Rega Planar 3's on eBay and have heard good things about the Project Debut Carbon.
Any recommendations?

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
There's one for sale on ebay but at £485, it ain't cheap.
Also a brand new one for £1,500
Obviously a sought after bit of kit.

Just picked up a second hand Rega P2 with ortofon red cartridge (only 20 hours use) in very nice condition for £120.
Leaves me £200 to spend on vinyl!

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
I've just bought a GPO 40 quid effort. Looked the biz but arm seemed too light and the needle just skipped across my singles
So it's gone back. Now I was looking at a Steepletone retro 60s number, about 90 quid but I'm afarid the same thing may happen. Also don;t like returning stuff bought off the internet if it fails.
Can anyone kindly recommend anything ?

Some two months later and after lots of searching, I have today bought a second hand Bush MTT2 turntable, complete with anti skate and pitch control. Just 15 quid. Hooked up to my Aiwa and the sound is very impressive

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
I ended up with a Rega RP3. It's okay but was a right pain to set up and still needs the occasional fiddle especially if you are switching between 45 and 33. Sadly is doesn't match up to my old deck.bluenosey wrote:

Re: My Pink Triangle (rip)
I found a place on the web called True Point Audio who amongst other things refurbish Pink Triangles. I e-mailed them and a bloke got back to me and said they could sort it but asked if I had tried a new belt and fiddled with the potentiometer. I told them I had done the belt thing but had no idea where or what was a potentiometer. After some instructions and a fiddle with a very long thin screwdriver down a very tiny hole it was sorted.
Just ordered a Stroboscopic Disc off Amazon so I can be accurate.
