Lightweight laptop recommendations

As some of you know, my 8 year old daughter has special educational needs, and is being homeschooled until we can find a suitable school for her.

So we need some technology to help her, and her current laptop (a Windows Book - like a Chromebook but Windows 10) is too slow to be of much use. It needs to be lightweight, preferably SSD, with a proper keyboard and fairly speedy (it’s going to have to last a few years and I know how much these things slow down over time).

Any suggestions?

HP Pavilion 14 gets good reviews. Downside is a 14" screen. It comes with a 256gb SSD which may be a bit small and has no dvd player but for home schooling should be ok

Thanks Surprised. 256 would be fine, probably get away with 128. Her current laptop is 11.6” so again, 14” would be more than good enough.

I’ll take a look.

Besides Which? magazine, the online reviews at The Independent are a useful starting point for most items.

Their comparison of the best laptops for children includes advice on ten makes and models of varying prices and sizes, half of which are described as light.

All the best with your search.

For a work laptop, I always favour ones with a matte screen rather than the reflective, glossy ones that often come on consumer devices.

I do work by a window, but having reflections is a real pain if youre working full screen!

  she’s going to be expecting me to answer/solve technical problems, so it will have to be Windows. I’ve never got on with a Mac.

Many thanks to everyone for their suggestions, it is much appreciated.

What did you choose as a result?

I haven’t yet. I was toying with a Microsoft Go 2 but I’m not sure about the quality of the keyboard.

My daughter has been offered a placement in a specialist education hub, so may not be homeschooled after September anyway :-)
