Man Utd are best-supported Club on Beat Your Manager! FF

Post by Garyalanlawro »

A count of all 11,716 fans taken on March 7th, 2014 who have signed up to manage their favourite Club on Beat Your Manager! Fantasy Football has found that Manchester United fans lead the title race with an impressive 3,090 fans managing their Club.

The top five positions are occupied by clubs you would expect, with Chelsea 2nd (2,117 managers), Arsenal 3rd (1,828 managers), Manchester City in 4th with 1,669 managers and Liverpool just outside a top-four finish with 1,514 managers.
After that, there’s a substantial drop to Tottenham Hotspur with 466 managers and another to Newcastle United in 6th place with 190 managers.

These rankings for the top five are pretty close to their worldwide following as published on the BBC’s website a year ago (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/20974695). Does anyone have a better link to any market analysis done on the number of followers of Premier League Clubs? It’d be good to know if this list was representative of the number of fans that each club has.

At the other end of the table, Stoke City are the lowest-represented Club (only 26 managers), with Fulham (30), Norwich City (35), Hull City (37) and West Bromwich Albion (38) pretty close by.

Ranking these Clubs by order of number of Managers on Beat Your Manager! and comparing it to their league position (as of Mar. 9th, 2014) reveals a high level of correlation (r=0.849) between the two, indicating that the number of fans a Club has is directly linked to their success in the league.

If the Beat Your Manager! table is an accurate sample of the number of fans for each club, Stoke City should probably have more fans, given their league position, while Sunderland and Cardiff City are doing poorer than their fan following should expect, given their size representation.

Keep in mind that they have to do it with the same under-performing players - can't draft in any big transfers on our game; you're stuck with the real-life squad
