Wasn't that the conception date? Seem to remember posts/conversations began in earnest around summer 2001.

That would mean Fiso's gestation period of more than a year is similar to the zebra, donkey, walrus, elephant and shark, ie creatures that can be easily startled, stubborn, noisy, thick-skinned or dangerous...

The forum was indeed introduced on fiso in around August 2001. There was an email newsletter service which started running about a year or so before that and copies were also published on the website.
