Game settings explained

Post by crispybits »

Seeing as there's been a couple of requests in different threads - here is the full list of game settings explained:

Game Type

Standard - As with the board game, all against all and last man standing scores points from all of the losers at the end of the game regardless of who actually finished them off.

Terminator - Similar to standard, but each player scores the points of only those players whom they themselves personally eliminate. Winner is still the last man standing.

Assassin - It's still a singles game, but every player is assigned a target and the first player whose target dies (regardless of who kills him) is the winner and scores points from everyone else, regardless of if they are still alive or not.

Doubles / Triples / Quadruples - Same as the standard, but instead of single players acting on their own players form teams of 2/3/4 to fight each other. You can deploy onto team-mates and reinforce onto them too. All members of the winning team score points from all of the losers.

Initial Troops

Automatic - Every territory you own at the start of the game will have 3 troops inside it.

Manual - Every territory you own will have one troop inside it and you will get an extra 2 troops for every territory you own to place on any of your territories before the first round starts.

Play Order

Sequential - Players go one by one in turn. You cannot start your move until the player before you in the sequence has finished theirs.

Freestyle - Players can all go simultaneously. The last player to play in one round cannot also be the first to play in the next.

Spoils

A card is gained whenever you end a turn in which you conquered or annihilated a territory. These spoils relate to zones on the map and are coloured red, green or blue. 3 cards of the same colour make a set, or 1 card of each of the 3 colours makes a set. You can play a spoils set whenever you have one, but if you get to 5 spoils you will be forced to play a set at the beginning of the next turn. They generally give you extra troops to deploy after playing them.

Escalating - The spoils amount starts at 4, and increases every time someone plays a set, to 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, then by an additional 5 for each turn-in.

Flat rate - 3 reds gets you 4, 3 greens earns 6, 3 blues earns 8, and 1 of each colour earns 10. These values do not change however many sets are cashed in.

Nuclear - Instead of the spoils giving you troops, they reduce the territory they are named after to 1 neutral, wiping out any existing troops in that zone.

No spoils - There are no spoils given out, the game is played only with the troops you earn for holding territories.

Reinforcements

Chained - Only 1 reinforcement move is allowed, but it can be performed over any distance as long as the rigin and destination zones are linked by territories which you own.

Unlimited - As many reinforcement moves between linked territories you own can be made as you wish.

Adjacent - Similar to chained, only 1 move can be made, but with the added limitation that the origin and destination zones must share a border with each other.

Fog of War

If fog of war is turned on you will only be able to see the number and owner of troops on territories which directly border ones which are owned by you and your team-mates.

Trench Warfare

If trench warfare is turned on then you are only allowed to attack from territories which you own at the start of your turn. You can attack multiple times from these territories, but if you move troops into a newly conquered territory they cannot be used to attack again that turn.

Round Limit

Games with round limits will end when the normal conditions are met, or when the round limit is reached. if the round limit is reached the person with the most troops on the board will win.

I never saw the other thread and this one has been a great help.
I now understand nuclear and trench warfare. Not sure it will improve my game play though but may improve it to shite whereas now it is beyond shite.
