yes it certainly was. Better conditions today for stage 5 hopefully.
Yorkshiredragons ISRAEL START UP NATION produce a new 'maglia rosa' (Italian too) De Marchi with UAE's (bluenosey) American rider Dowbrowski taking the win.
If your week 1 team is not doing all that well, you will get a different one in week 2 after the rest day !

Today looks like a thriller :-)

basically - ride 170km on perfectly flat roads in a perfectly straight line, then in the last 3km there are four 90 degree bends before the finish.

so its either the dullest stage in history, or if the wind is from the right direction its 170km of echelon hell for the riders.

assuming no cross winds then its Ewan's revenge day I guess

I recorded Quest's coverage of Stage 4 at 7pm last night. They showed Stage 1. Again. No apologies, no explanations.

Luckily I spotted it and it was shown again later.

Turned on to see the final sprint and they've still got 20k to go. Think they must have decided that as it was such a boring stage they'll just soft pedal instead of racing.

just hope nobody crashes when they get to the sharp bends at the end

yes they did have a crash just outside the 3km mark and yesterdays winner was involved and brought one of the fancied riders, Landa down. Will he be fit to continue tomorrow ?
Stage 5 ended in the holiday town of Cattoolica and this time Aussie Caleb Ewan,(tenpinterry. LOTTO SOUDAL) won the bunch sprint.
De Marchi (Yorkshiredragon ISRAEL STARTUP NATION) retained the 'maglia rosa & Louis Vervaeke, canary fan ALPECIN moved to 2nd.
9th in the GC is Carty, EF Ed, Geoffv & Simon Yates, (Bike Exchange, 0 nz is 14th)
Thursday's stage 6 starts at the caves of Grotte Frasassi ending in Ascoli Piceno and there is a fair amount of hills to be tackled.

pity about the LANDA injuries and his withdrawal from the Giro. Todays stage 6 could see a real shake up with lots of climbing and a 40km long descent to Ascoli Piceno.
A points tally including stage 6 will appear after it together with the leading contenders in the GC. Will you have a runner in there ?

yes you do not expect to be rammed behind by one of the support cars. He should be able to continue on stage 7 on Friday ! Not so fortunate were the victims of the tree incident at the end of stage 5 one of whom was the previous stage winner, Terkowski.
Stage 6 was exciting especially the 40km descent from 1500m to Ascoli Picino (in the wet) as blahblah mentioned.
The stage winner Gino Mader (simonb BAHRAIN) was the survivor of the breakaway group and got home 4 seconds ahead of INEOS's (morganb) and race favourite Egan Bernal.
There is a new race leader, Groupama's (Darbyand) Attila Valter. Can he hold the 'maglia rosa' for a spell ?

lets hope the weather by the Adriatic improves today as 2 Brits, Carthy & Yates move into the top 10 contenders for the 'maglia rosa'
There should be a sprint finish at the fishing port of Termoli to conclude stage 7.

Nice to see another breakaway win yesterday.

Looks like the only thing that will stop a bunch sprint today is getting stuck behind the crash as they turn into a small rise in the road 1,5k before the finish

Nizzolo 2nd place?

the weather improved on the way to Termoli and Ewan (tpt) took his second stage win in a sprint finish. maglia rosa was held by Valter (Groupama,Darbyand). Geoffv's EF Education dropped out of the top 10 contenders with mechanical problems not far from the finish but Simon Yates (BikeExchange 0 nz) mloved up to 9th not too far back.
News of stage 8 today and who might feature a little later ( after my Saturday cooked breakfast)

the 170km route today, Foggia to Guardia Sanframondi goes up to almost 1400m, following by a very long descent and I am hoping that Peter Sagan (BORA tbf) makes a showing to move toward the top 10.

One for the break today. Maybe see De Gendt trying to get into this one. Tratnik, Tarramae, Mollema, Guerriro, Mohoric etc etc. Probably half the peloton trying to get away, so could be a frantic first 20k or so trying to form the main break, then probably not much to see for the rest of the stage unless someone like Almeida wants to try and attach the GC guys late to drag himself back close to them

Tough start to the race. Lots trying to break, but crosswinds mean that the GC riders are wary of getting on the wrong side of a big selection.

Bernal found himself in a break - How pissed off would you be to get into a break and then see someone like Bernal in there :D :D

it took a while for the 9 man breakaway group to get clear of the field heading toward Guardia Sanframundi ( the furthest South that the Giro reaches this year) but they hoovered all the points by staying ahead with the stage going to Cofidis (Chazzy Ath).
2 stage winner, Aussie EWAN (Lotto, tenpinterry) retired early in the stage as he intended to prepare for the TDF at the end of June.
No change in the maglia rosa order, Attila Walter (Groupama,Darbyand) leads from Evenepoele ( D.Quick-Step.unc.si) and Bernal (INEOS, morganb) with Carthy 5th and Yates 9th.
Next points review after Monday's stage 10. Decision. All players will retain the teams they have for the whole race. Too complicated for scoring by changing another twice.

stage 9 from Castel di Sangro ends in the ski resort of Campo Felice, NE of Rome. What to expect today ? Maybe another break-away win but unlikely. Will unc.si make another forecast ? Both Cartthy & Yates are in good positions in the GC. Bear in mind the name CICCONE.
