I can only assume this was all meant to be on 'the other thread'......

Only fleeing Turkey at this stage don't forget. They are safe there. These are just economic migrants. Just like those in Calais and Hungary.

Can we put murf's ignorance in the other thread? It doesn't belong in here.

Surely ignorance = falling for media hype and not reading beyond the fluffy headlines??

This article does. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-34173139

Again it's the generosity and actions of individuals rather than governments. Thought it was heartening to read of widespread acts of humanity being shown to migrants rather than the usual Daily Mail reporting angle.
Murf has a point, but I'm sure he also understands the sentiment of volunteers helping across Europe.

Pastafarian can wear strainer on head in license photo

"A woman who belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is allowed to wear a pasta strainer on her head in her driver's license photo due to religious beliefs, the AP reports"

Way to go Lindsay 8-) :D

JP is pretty chuffed with his double-word score for D-O-G.

Husky is pondering if it would be inappropriate to play his G-I-N-G.

Saw this last night... And it's absolutely blown me away;

Is it overstating it to suggest it can change the world?

http://www.waverlylabs.com

Such a simple idea, huge potential.

Probably a blank cheque to the creators as the likes of Google and Apple buy them out? Unless they can just create their own? Probably not something that can be patented.

Really? Seems to good to be true to my ( admittedly overly) cynical eye. I really hope it's true though, think how many conflicts it could end prematurely just for starters.

In theory we already have voice/diction software. We have google translate capability, just a case of marrying them together?

I thought it was still miles away from contextual translation - many can tell you what each word (or most of them) translate to in another language but they're normally pretty poor at translating the actual meaning of the sentence. As I say, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong.

Probably cause more misunderstandings and confusion than it solves.
I doubt it can pick up on slang, nuance and localisation.
A word can have a totally different meaning depending on how it is said

From the world where my genes will never take me ... these people either have extra ones or a few missing :o

US skydiver jumps without parachute, or wingsuit, into net (100x100ft) from 25,000ft

"...he had nearly had to cancel the jump because he was ordered to wear a parachute for safety and this would have made his landing more dangerous because of the extra weight.

However, the organisers had lifted the ban just minutes before the jump."

I tip my hat to you Luke 8-)

Concentration to the the very last - those final few seconds being the most important I'd imagine - not much room for error there and that net is closing in very fast.

Read about this. I'd struggle to jump off a 10ft wall so to jump 25000 feet is something else. I imagine the net looked tiny from that high.
