Could so easily have been 'modern life was actually quite good sometimes'

While it was cuddly and all that I can't see how the result could stand ... what if Mola had come in in 6th not 5th?unc.si. wrote:Brownlee Brothers in arms
Fine for A not to overtake J so he still has a chance for 2nd but how is A carrying/pushing J across the line ok. They say it doesn't count as external assistance because both were in the race - but he wouldn't have got 2nd without help. Odd decision imo.

It was Alistair decision to help Jonny, I don't see how you can really penalise either, it wouldn't sit right with the spirit of sportsmanship.RomynPG wrote:While it was cuddly and all that I can't see how the result could stand ... what if Mola had come in in 6th not 5th?unc.si. wrote:Brownlee Brothers in arms

I do appreciate that honestly but then again, in the spirit of sportsmanship, what if Mola had come 6th not 5th?Tacalabala wrote:It was Alistair decision to help Jonny, I don't see how you can really penalise either, it wouldn't sit right with the spirit of sportsmanship.RomynPG wrote:While it was cuddly and all that I can't see how the result could stand ... what if Mola had come in in 6th not 5th?unc.si. wrote:Brownlee Brothers in arms

It was quite a unique occurance ... and one, to me, that represented faternity more than sportmanship.
I do not think in any way it was unsportsmanlike...and as cold as I may sound above it did bring a tear to my eye.

The Mexican also accepted the fact and said he expected the brothers to help each other and wasn't surprised. What made me laugh was that later on Jonny said he was a pillock for not pacing himself properly! He also got away with throwing his brother to the floor, no doubt he won't let him live it down

I agree with you, and couldn't have worded it better myself. Very 'nice', but not really right from a purely sporting perspective. As long as everyone involved recognises that and has no problem with it then that's great, but I think it's a bit confused for anyone to call it great 'sportsmanship...RomynPG wrote:I do appreciate that honestly but then again, in the spirit of sportsmanship, what if Mola had come 6th not 5th?Tacalabala wrote:It was Alistair decision to help Jonny, I don't see how you can really penalise either, it wouldn't sit right with the spirit of sportsmanship.RomynPG wrote:While it was cuddly and all that I can't see how the result could stand ... what if Mola had come in in 6th not 5th?unc.si. wrote:Brownlee Brothers in arms

Easter Eggs
Proper Easter Eggs are back!
After years of rubbish empty ones just shoved in a box with a Mars bar or whatever, the shops yesterday offered me a choice of proper ones with the sweets INSIDE How it should be. Smarties for Mrs m and Aero bubble things for me. Nice. So happy I won't even mention the lack of a mug.

It amazes me he is still in the job, isn't it well known that Charles in particular despises him?

Heike Drechsler volunteering as a sand raker in the European Championship long jump competition made me think of this thread

I thought it was fantastic. How good must that be if you're a young athlete and one of the legends of your event is there volunteering

I think so, yes (it was in Berlin so I guess she's still involved in German athletics and either wanted to help or was asked to do so for PR, although it wasn't really that well publicised so maybe she really did just volunteer to help)

And that's how you differentiate a really passionate sportswoman from one who's just here for the fame and the money! We need more of them, I think real life (and fantasy) football would become much better...

A blast from blah's past, I had an admittedly peculiar thing about a handful (all pins intended) East German athletes, but not Krabbe but With (ok a chilly athlete ).
Is that true?

Dr David Brill is standing for Congress against Paul Gosar in Arizona ...and Gosar sounds like a chap wiki
...with an added bonus of a genuinely funny comment on youTube
"Dr Brill is now head of the burn center in Maricopa County hospital."
