Re: My Nan is 102 years old today!
Happy Birthday Doris!
The other day my 4 year old niece asked my sister if granddad (my dad) was alive when Jesus was put on the cross. It's obviously difficult at 4 years old to comprehend being 76 years old, but I can't really imagine being 102 either! That's another 70 years away for me! I swear every year it takes me a day longer to get over a hangover, so if I make it to 100 it will take me about two months to recover from the party.
EDIT: I take it your granny does drink like a fish too hence the long life?

Hello stranger. I will pass on your birthday wishes. You could try drinking less - that may help the speed of recovery. I don't think she drinks as much as she used to because it wets her roll-ups.cherylhoney wrote:Happy Birthday Doris!

Well here we are again then! Another 12 months for my nan who is 103 years old today. Still living at home, with her son. She is still going up to bed every night and coming downstairs every morning.

Wowsers - some good genes you have there. Happy birthday Mrs Jonathan's Nan.
My Nan is a mere sapling at 94.
Does she ever post on FISO?

From what I have heard from the FISO Welsh open those genes have definitely been passed down the family. Like playing golf with a stevedore who continually dropped hammers on his feet was how someone described it to me.Jonathan wrote:She would be banned within a day - she has a sharp tongue - always has had.Knulpuk wrote:Wowsers - some good genes you have there. I fear my genes aren't as good as I only have 1 ancestor alive and none of my grandparents made 90

Re: My Nan is 104 years old today!
I am posting this now because I most likely won't have time on the actual day, but it is that time of the year again when I post about my Nan's birthday.
So, on Sunday 8th of April, my nan will be 104! I am sad to say though, due to family issues, that I still haven't seen her since she was 102, but I understand she is still doing well, despite a fall on mother's day, and apart from a black eye, no real harm done.
She still goes up to bed every night, and her son is still living at home with her.
So, Happy 104th Birthday for Sunday, Doris!

Re: My Nan is 104 years old today!
Yes I do understand what you are saying, but there are issues which won't ever be addressed I am afraid. Not so much on my side, but over the years it just became easier to stay out of things. I may still pop over with the dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren etc etc, but not sure yet. Most of it lies at the door of my mum's brother who is just plain evil (the one who still lives at home at aged 70 something)

Re: My Nan is 104 years old today!
All the best to your Gran, Jonathan, many happy returns. I'm sure seeing you would bring her much joy. Must you let issues with others stand between you?
An elderly friend of mine died in February aged 95. Last time I saw him he said, "Do you know what I do every morning?" I shook my head.
He said, "I put my arms up like this (to the ceiling) and out like this ..... and if I don't feel a box ..... I get up!"
Seize the day, J.!

Re: My Nan is 104 years old today!
My Nan mentioned in this thread passed away this year at 95 and never met my daughter as we were just too hectic in the early months (she was 3 months old) but I did feel real bad - make the time is my advice too - at 104 any visit could be the last time you ever see her (excuse the morbidity but you know what I mean).
Many happy returns Doris!

Lost my grandmother in December at 93.
@Knulpuk - sorry to hear of your loss.
My Gran did meet my young daughter a couple of times, and I think it did really improve her final months when she was completely bed bound for the whole of the last year.
So, again, do try and see your old folks when you can!!

Re: My Nan is 104 years old today!
Well, just a few weeks short of making 105, nan finally passed away this evening in her care home.
Up until about 2 months ago, nan still lived at home but picked up a virus and suffered a couple of falls resulting in a spell in hospital. She made it home briefly after the first tumble. However, after the second time and another spell in hospital, she was moved to a local care home two weeks ago.
I know she was pretty fed up and kept saying she was ready to go, and unfortunately after refusing to eat for many days, her body could take no more.
For various reasons I hadn't seen her since her 102nd birthday, but I know there was interest shown in the thread when I kept updating with her birthdays since she turned 100, but unfortunately she couldn't quite make the next one.
I think 105 is what you could call a good innings.
Thanks all.
