Well, Rodgers’ stock had fallen since the Suarez, Sturridge and slip season, and he wasn’t likely to walk straight back into a top job in England at the time.

Lennon seemingly came through the coaching ranks at Celtic, so was their poor man’s Pep/Enrique etc. in terms of his first spell... was a bit surprised he didn’t get a better opportunity than a freefalling Bolton in England after that.

Or who would have given Gerrard a job? A Championship club as per Derby is my best guess and I don't see Ibrox as a stepping stone to Anfield, but then I remember Souness

Yeah, for all those who are already touting Gerrard for the Liverpool job, I’m surprised there aren’t more cautionary mentions of the last Liverpool midfield legend who took the job after learning his trade north of the border...

There’s few obvious stepping stones to a big club job in England within the UK, which is one reason why they tend to appoint from abroad (while British managers are notoriously bad at developing their careers overseas).

If he’d tanked at Celtic or just done the minimum expected (winning a league that Rangers weren’t yet re-equipped to challenge them for) he wouldn’t have got near a decent EPL job again though. It did enough to boost his Football Index price

But he did all he could ie win without Rangers.....

I don't remember any great European runs, so his stock stayed pretty much the same ie Swansea and nearly winning the title at Lpool; which would have got him the Leicester gig. I think that what he has done there puts him on the fringe of a Spurs\Arse etc type of club.

I guess domestic trebles and CL group stage are the most you can do at Celtic, which he generally achieved... seem to remember they did OK in Europe but got thrashed by the big sides as he wouldn’t change his approach to try and shut down Messi etc. Enough to advance/rebuild his reputation, unlike say the Norwegian guy before him or Lennon mk 2...

There was an increasing narrative that “it was all down to Suarez” as that Liverpool season faded from memory, as well as him getting a bit of a Brenty reputation from that documentary.

With Chris Wilder leaving Sheffield United do you think I'd have a chance of the job (AKA Crap Manager Who Gets One Job)?

I feel I have relevant experience having managed my Sheffield United block to 2nd in the FISO TFF Block League last year and am currently 12th this year (out of 20) despite Chris Wilder's best efforts to wreck it for me - also in the top half nationally.

Got to be a better CV than many candidates who have previously featured on this thread.

Well, he may operate a level above most of those discussed in here, and have won trophies most of them can only dream of, but in terms of repeatedly getting managerial jobs his recent record no longer merits...

He’s slowly slipping down the ladder of European footballing powers, while offering little to suggest a slightly “lesser” club would be more suited to his methods.

Yeah, he probably doesn’t need to keep working at all, never mind chase the oil money in the league of who cares.

I think he might fancy a crack at international management before too long (he once said ‘when I’m 60’, so a couple of years perhaps). That might even suit him better nowadays, not being around a group of players full time.

Jokanovic to the Blunts... perhaps harsh to call him a crap manager as he’s got two teams up to the PL, but he did last a total of about 6 months afterwards. He was a crap player (certainly at Chelsea, where he was less than affectionately nicknamed Joker) anyway.
