Can Liverpool win the title without VVD?

Post by forestfan »

Or even put in a challenge for it? I think the pundits were right in that he’s the player they could least afford to lose (with Alisson probably second to him in that regard). Behind the injury-prone Gomez and Matip, who surely can’t play every single game, they only have midfielders and kids as cover.

Presumably they will sign a £50m+ centre-back in January, but their choices will be limited and clubs will be able to hold them to ransom, and will the damage be done by then? In their favour is the fact that nobody else looks like outstanding title candidates so far. It could be like the Leicester season in that 80-85 points will win it.

Yes they can. But they probably won’t.

Bookies now make 10th-placed City odds-on favourites (I know they have a game in hand!)

Liverpool were only marginal favourites at the beginning of the weekend!

Still a pretty big shift, you can now get Liverpool at best odds 11/4 with City best price 10/11.

Others still viewed as a long way back - Spurs available at 14’s, Everton 22, Chelsea 25, United and Arsenal 33, Villa 66 and Leicester 100. City still look a bit fragile so could be some value somewhere among the chasing pack, just not quite sure where - whoever stumbles across a long forgotten concept called “defence”

Arsenal have the Sideshow Bob handicap...

If Pickford keeps taking out their rivals’ best players, Everton will walk it ;)

I think I'd take the field over City

Ben White seemingly the top January target. That’s as long as Brighton don’t see them as a direct rival by then ;)

Looks like sicknote Matip is already a doubt for this week’s CL opener

From what I've seen of White he would rock alongside VvD.

Has de Ligt been playing?

Well, looks like the answer was “no”, and the bookies were right on then-10th placed City! Still, nobody could have expected their other two specialist CBs would also be ruled out for the season and they would have to play Henderson there on a regular basis alongside a youngster/panic buy at this stage.

Rumours of Klopp walking/taking a break have been played down, that would be some coincidence given what happened the February after their previous title win. If they draw 4-4 with Everton at the weekend though...

If Ipswich are to be his Blackburn, he needs to take a year off first (and wait for you to find a zillionaire investor...)
