In those early days it really was a case of “throw enough shit at the wall and some will stick”.

Apart from the league double over United
I know it's happened more regularly since but that was the first for a while

Was he dodgy or just persecuted by political rivals? In any case, the issues experienced by “Frank” paved the way for the game-changing takeover...thebillfella wrote: ↑14 Nov 2019, 19:45 Thinking about the other dodgy money launderer Sinawatra before them as well
That team under Sven looked half decent for a while. When Abu Dhabi took over just after he got the boot, I remember thinking he’d have been the ideal man for a money no object rebuilt, as opposed to someone like Hughes (did he replace him?)

They're not out of the woods yet on an FFP punishment.

A Champions League ban and Pep wandering off would be lovely (I'm resigned to Liverpool winning lots in near furure ).

Bit bizarre that they were appealing a decision to charge them rather than an actual outcome.

I think Abu Dhabi have said they'll contest it in the most aggressive way possible, throw millions at lawyers etc. This must be an early stage of that process.

And then charge lawyers fees at exorbitant rates to reduce profit and help meet FFP requirements (on paper.....).

Argentina striker Aguero has suffered muscular problems
But the immediate concern will be for Manchester City fans - would be a worry for City given he has scored 13 goals in 16 games this season.
Aguero has suffered muscular problems before, and as an explosive power player, his recovery is always somewhat laboured. Even when he returns to action after injury, it tends to take him 2 or 3 games to get back up to his best levels.

Carragher takes aim at City (and a well-deserved dig at Sterling):
https://twitter.com/Carra23/status/1218 ... 40001?s=19
"Well I’d like to think I may have been lucky enough to get one if LFC were ever bank rolled by a country, & if not I know I wouldn’t have left chasing their money as well as titles. Imagine how much more you could spend if you filled that ground off the council!"

Re: Man City and FFP
This could be a watershed moment for English and European football.
Win their appeal and FFP is dead in the water.
Lose their appeal, or admit defeat, and we’ll see Pep on the move and a potential fire sale of players, and maybe the Sheikhs walking away.
As it stands, fifth place will get in the CL next season - dreamland for Sheff Utd, Wolves or Everton, or a lucky reprieve for Man Utd, Spurs or Arsenal?

Time to scrap the rule anyway and get rid of the cartel of established clubs trying to keep newcomers out.

In solidarity with Man City it has been announced that West Ham United will also not play Champions league football for the next two years.

Re: Man City and FFP
Rubbish. So any country can come along, pump as many billions of sovereign wealth as they like into a team and everyone else has to try and compete as though it's a level playing field. What if a country did it with one of your "established clubs", giving them a double advantage? Would that still be ok?

Re: Man City and FFP
Yeah, no rule as to which clubs can be invested in. Just prevent it from being debt-based, perhaps get them to fund player contracts up front, that’s more than enough. If someone wants to bankroll Man Utd or Morecambe, Arsenal or Accrington to the Champions League with their own wealth then let them.Darbyand wrote: ↑14 Feb 2020, 20:38Rubbish. Without Abramovich and Mansour we would have had a very boring PL over the last decade, probably with bad United teams winning titles as bad Bayern teams regularly do in Germany.

Seems like they will get a punishment from the Premier League as the uefa offence leads to a replica domestic offence. An Italian style retrospective anulling of trophy wins would be great.

The next Sheikh won't invest in(/dope) Steaua Bucharest. He'd want to win in a top league as well as the CL.
