Ready to put El Cloughico in the calendar for the 14th straight season… will either of us go up or down this time?

I assumed any such punishment would be a points deduction going forwards… could lead to absolute chaos, this, if it drags on towards the big kick-off!morganb wrote: ↑24 Jun 2021, 07:53 https://www.efl.com/news/2021/june/-der ... aincontent

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
so who will face Accrington Stanley on 7th August ? My home town Wanderers or Mr Morris's Rams . If it is Wycombe then Huddersfield will be at Pride Park. What is forestfan hoping for ?

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
Rooney going to Accrington would be quite amusing… and you’d get to play Burton for the Nigel Clough Trophy
Would be strange having no local derbies at all on the fixture list though. Probably Sheff Utd or Coventry would be the closest!

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
by my reckoning we have 138 teams competing in the League with 3 National editions as well. They should all be back in training for August by now. Just DOVER with a 12 point penalty for failing to complete last seasons fixtures ! Not sure what to make of the Pride Park penalty.
There have to be some FISO readers who follow, (for example) BLYTH SPARTANS, KETTERING TOWN or BATH CITY. Hoping to hear from some of you.

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
a little over a week to the kick-off but plenty of warm up games many of which are relatively local affairs. It is noted that tonight the Rams are entertaining foreign opposition, Real Betis from the Spanish La Liga. Most probably a unique occasion this season ! Apparently WR damaged one of his non too numerous players the other day when making up the numbers ! No news on the season ticket front which does not bode well.
We do not seem to have many non Prem followers on here yet. Almost totally reliant on forestfan & Smurfy's Paw & Neath boy, the owner of a new manager at Swansea. jimmy ching and Leeds are sadly missed now they ride high elsewhere.
Who are likely to make the early running ? Forest perhaps ?

Have tickets for Reading's final pre-season friendly v Crystal Palace on Saturday. Last game I saw in a stadium was against Sheffield United in the FA Cup back in March 2020. Must say I'm quite looking forward to it!

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
this new thread of forestfan to cover every league and also the National has widened the scope enormously but not automatically those interested in it. Early days of course and the season is yet to begin.
Reviewing some of the team names there are connections. Forest also means Forest Green Rovers and Boreham Wood. County also applies to Notts & Stockport as well as the financially embarrassed outfit at Pride Park. At least two Albions, the Baggies & beer town Burton. More Rovers at Doncaster & Blackburn etc etc.
Where will the stories and alleged scandals be coming from and who will be telling them ?

We need 11 players (and preferably a few subs who aren’t all goalkeepers) to have a chance of making the early runningtheo29 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 17:38 a little over a week to the kick-off but plenty of warm up games many of which are relatively local affairs. a few more names in this seasons cast list. The names at Crewe Alexandra & Accrington Stanley. I have a great grandson with the 2nd of those. The 2 Welsh outfits, Newport County to go with Cardiff & Swansea and the Hollywood owned, Wrexham in the North. Does Leamington still count as a spa, to go with Cheltenham & Harrogate ?

of course, thanks to a former monarch !. The term ROYAL can only be connected to the team where Oscar Wilde 'did porridge' I believe they have a follower in our midst.

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
At the weekend I was intent on seeing the Banksy that's been drawn on the old Reading Gaol (that spelling of jail really confused my kids!) but we got lost in the Abbey ruins instead.
I'm happy to occasionally comment on the South West teams I keep any eye on (Torquay, Exeter, Plymouth, Truro) and my local teams of Farnborough and Aldershot if I have to (though a couple of those teams are too low a league even for this thread!)

I think it should be noted that the Rooney Rams have had a win before the season proper begins. 2-0 v NOTTS COUNTY at Meadow Lane. They are at long odds v HUDDERSFIELD on the opening day with the Carabao Cup to follow v SALFORD CITY early next week.

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
it is Baggies by the sea as they open the season's proceedings at Bournemouth. Both clubs have new managers, Scott Parker lately at Fulham & Valerian Ismael, who got the Barnsley Tykes into last terms play offs.
All the others join in tomorrow for the annual 46 match stampede.

Looks wide open this season, with everyone financially constrained. The usual suspect yo-yo teams will be favourites but anyone could make the leap with good management and finding a bit of momentum.

Wazza’s desperate Derby took the lead, but pegged back within a few minutes by Huddersfield.

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
The Sheffield Wednesday side starting life in Division 1 will bear little relation to the team that finished bottom of the Championship a couple of months ago.
Lots of the high wage under-performers have gone. In their place we have quite a few loan signings - such as Peacock-Farrell from Burnley - as well as some new blood on permanent contracts. Bannan remains and as he was one of the better mids in the Championship his role will be key.
Today’s teatime game against Charlton might see a somewhat disjointed performance given the number of announcements this week alone. After a season where players were not even being paid on time there’s more optimism amongst supporters than we expected though. Bring it on!

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
Well, starting on zero points and with a few fresh faces is probably as much as you could have hoped for I guess… tough division to get out of but always a shot if you can find some early momentum. Is the ownership situation resolved?Smurphy's Paw wrote: ↑07 Aug 2021, 15:57 The Sheffield Wednesday side starting life in Division 1 will bear little relation to the team that finished bottom of the Championship a couple of months ago.

Re: THE CHAMPIONSHIP (L1/L2/NL) 2021-22
^ The owner was never going to willingly sell - there was a bit of chit chat about him setting the price to unrealistically high that nobody would come in. I’ve no idea if he did actually put it on the market or not TBH.
A couple of inter-related complications were cash flow and getting money in to the country to pay for things that ticket sales usually cover. Overall the owner had enough cash, just not in the right places (or, presumably not without paying hefty tax penalties for bringing in the money but if there are finance people on this they’ll be able to clarify).
On all of this cards have been played close to chest and my info is second or third hand

Luton and Hull lead the way… just the 45 games to go. Could top flight football return to Kenilworth Road for the first time in 30 years?
Ipswich Wise up with an injury-time equaliser against Morecambe. Yo-yo merchants Rotherham look like heading the initial table. Troubled Swindon off to a flier in the bottom tier.
