Fantasy Olympics 2012 - Free to enter
Well chaps (and chapesses), it had to happen.
Here is the fantasy competition to end all fantasy competitions (till the next one). Simply pick your 6 countries you think might do well at this summer's Olympics and send me an email (or pm me) your country numbers and sit back and wait.
If any of your countries decides not to participate, then you will not score any points. There are to be no substitute countries.
The winner will be the person who studies form across all the different sports, makes their judgement across the team values and is very, very lucky.
Good luck everyone.
And for those lurkers around, you too can have a go. Entry is not restricted to paid-up bona fide members of FISO. The more the merrier.

Re: FISO Fantasy Olympics 2012
Shaggy: My wife typed in all the countries until she stopped after making a mess spelling a caribbean one
murf: Jamaica?
Shaggy: No, she volunteered

Shaggy: My wife typed in all the countries until she stopped to watch an X-Factor repeat half way through typing an Asian country.
murf: Singapore?
Shaggy: Yes, she was bloody awful
(How to start a competition on negative points)

Hmmm. Maybe I picked a bad time to announce the launch of this. Perhaps I should have waited until there was a break in all other sport for a few weeks.

Re: Fantasy Olympics 2012 - Free to enter
TBH I calculated the values from previous medal tables, so if some little country once won their only medal back in 1920, then I'm afraid they haven't made it into the competition. I do think that being able to choose from 109 countries is probably enough, so if anyone's particular favourite country isn't listed in the competition, then I shall apologise.
I also think that there are some mid-value countries that will be very favourable with the point-scoring system, but the values & the budget have been set so you can't choose USA, China & Russia in the one entry, otherwise I suspect everyone would have identical entries. Having set the values, I didn't adjust them for them when I'd put in the sliding scale for the gold, silver & bronze, but reallistically everyone has the same entry form, and some-one will win and everyone else won't.

Re: Fantasy Olympics 2012 - Free to enter
Very doubtful. To do a full fantasy competition, you'd have to put every qualifier for every event and TBH it would be a phenominally long list. Anyway, there is only 1 competition (apart from murf's) and this is it.NuttyGeezer wrote:I'll have a go! Anyone know if there is going to be any fantasy olympics from the newspapers or sky?

Team entered. Who'd have thought that through a careful application of mathematics it would be possible to have the top 5 countries in the same team.

Just counted how many different valid entries there are. I believe it's 1,937,526,706.
I haven't had any duplicate entries so far.
