The Jumps is based on NH races from Hennessy Gold Cup day - 1 Dec 2012 - to the Cheltenham Festival - 15 March 2013.

Entry
Pick 10 horses from The Jumps slip available at William Hill shops.
One selection must be from the list of 8 Stable Stars.
Each entry costs £2.
Deadline is noon, Sat 1 Dec.

Points
Horses will score 10 points when winning National Hunt races in GB or Ireland.
Additional points can be earned for starting prices and in bonus races.

Prizes
The entry with the most points at the end of the competition will win £100,000.
The runner-up will win £50,000.
Monthly cash prizes of £1,500 and £500 will also be awarded in each of Dec, Jan, Feb and March.

Leaderboard
Standings will be published in the Mirror and the Daily Record every fortnight from Sat 8 Dec and in all 2,300 shops.

As in 2011-12, shall make one initial entry at betting office this week in order to set up FISO mini-league.

This is not a syndicate. Aim is to group entries to make team and leaderboard access more user-friendly.

There were 50 teams in the FISO league last season and 150,000 competition entries in all.

The rules seem to suggest that it is only 25pts for winning a bonus race rather than the basic 10 pts plus the 25 bonus. Can anyone confirm that the wording in the rules is accurate?

If that is the case it affects the attractiveness of a few horses, for example Quevega.

@ Striker: it's 25 - instead of 10 - plus points based on SP.

For example, Bobs Worth, who won Hennessy at 4/1, scores 25 + 5 = 30.

Rule extract:
5. Scoring

You will score 10 points for each win by your chosen horses in National Hunt races under the Rules of Racing in Great Britain or Ireland (Races) during the Game Period (1st December 2012 - 16th March 2013).

However, in the bonus races listed below 25 points will be awarded to the winner and 10 points will be awarded to the runner-up:

Hennessy Gold Cup - 1st December 2012

Looking forward to these NH comps developing over the next few months. Both The Jumps and the TTTF are often more enjoyable than FF, although now that no transfers are allowed even in TTTF we are all powerless to do anything other than watch from afar. However one good feature is that the interest in both games is likely to remain up until Cheltenham as things can change significantly and "stables" that look good now can drop dramatically, and apparantly rubbish ones improve. I wouldn't put much money on my current best efforts finishing higher than my current pathetic entries. I find that watching a race involving one of my fantasy horses, especially if it isn't a popular pick, is as enjoyable as watching a horse that I've backed, without the homework required for backing a horse.

We've already lost Fingal Bay, Big Bucks and Al Ferof (unfortunately all of which figured in my teams). I'd now be happy only to have lost BB from all my teams as it's almost irrelevant. A bit like Thierry Henry being injured.

Looks like Simonsig has a penalty kick tomorrow, but this weekend is generally not that interesting, especially now that Dodging Bullets is not taking up his engagement tomorrow.

Furthermore he's entered in the Christmas Hurdle. This isn't how it was supposed to be, I'd hoped to see him running up a sequence of novice races before March.

I can see that come March some Jumps "managers" will be willing Quevaga to do the Mares/World double for 50 pts while others will be hoping that she is sidelined for some minor reason and has to wait for Punchestown.

In the meantime what a treat to look forward to from Boxing Day onwards at Kempton and Leopardstown. One mini limitation at the moment, except for those with only one or two lines, is that many of us are not sure which horses we want to win and lose. By Cheltenham those with several lines are likely to be wanting some of their own most selected horses to lose as they are not in their only line with any realistic chance of winning. Trouble is we don't know which horses they are now. In March we may be cursing the same victory of a horse which we are now hoping for next week.

Despite the interest in Cheltenham on fiso, there doesn't seem to be much interest in this comp judging by this thread. Is anyone interested?

If so let's swop our hopes. Admittedly mine are slim going on zero but I'm still following my horses. Taking into account that the comp ends on Friday I suppose that my best team could be one including 2 odds on shots, another 3 between 3/1 and 4/1, one at 10s with a slight chance and a 16/1 no hoper. Unfortunately it's 40 points off the lead. But with us punters hope spring eternal.

Thing is that while hundreds of managers still have entries with slim hopes, the structure of the Festival programme is such that the first day could put large numbers of us out of contention for good, even with 20 bonus point races to go.

Dunno about other "managers" but my spread of hopes in The Jumps is far better than in the TTTF. In the latter I have lines which could deliver 1st and 2nd in three of the four major championship races and the winner in the other (obviously unlikely) but more importantly no runners in virtually all the other races.

Obviously this is partly a factor of the very different bonus race structure, but not entirely so.

savvyboy.

Interesting to compare our teams. Our non competing horses are similar. As we both have Darlan and Big Bucks, and I have Quito de la Roque rather than Flemenstar.

As regards the runners we both have the two odds on chances, and Boston Bob and Zarkander.

So it's down to my Dodging Bullets, Cue Card, and Sanctuaire, against your two Champion Hurdle hopes and Captain Conan. I'd have had you well ahead of me given your extra 20pts in the bag, but I'm now closer since Dynaste was confirmed in the Jewson.

As I said above my hopes are slim to zero, and yours are only marginally better, but we are both still able to hope for a miracle for just a little longer. In my case though zero will be written in large letters as soon as Dodging Bullets is beaten, but a 35 pt haul will keep my hopes alive until Day 2, assuming that Simonsig follows up. (can't see Overturn turning him over myself), and less probably Zarkander delivers.
