Tote Ten to Follow 2012-13

Post by Striker »

Significant changes this season include;

1. No bonus window
2. Entry can be delayed until the Hennessy if you are prepared to forego the Paddy Power points
3. Entry fee reduced from £10 to £5
4. Star horse which will score double the betting bonus points.

William Hill is also saying that The Jumps will return mid November. Pity it seems that all one's decisions in both the two fantasy horse racing comps that are worth winning all have to be made before the comps start.

I'd enjoy it if The Jumps were to allow you to make regular transfers even if you did have to trek to a WH shop to perform the transfers.

Interesting. Can't see that delaying entry until the Hennessy would work for the overall comp. as some of the top class Irish horses will be out on Sun 18th (Morgiana etc?) and I think in England, Ascot comes between the Paddy Power and the Hennessy which is always a good card. The Dec. monthly would be a temptation though.

Star horse tactics? Very occasionally a Paddy Power winner improves enough to win another handicap later in the season and very very occasionally one does the Paddy Power/Hennessy double if memory serves. Think I'd target that unlikely event looking at long shots and those entered up at Newbury as well.

We need to get as many as possible to remember PA..

This was always his baby and would be good to get his name included in our teams.

No link seems to be functioning yet, for example racingpost.com/ttf still only shows the title page and a coming soon message.

I summarised the info in my post from "Racing Post Guide to the Jumps" which was published 10-14 days ago and which I received at the start of this week, so the Tote is pretty slow in getting it's act together.

Delivery time of the book is typically 48 hrs - 01933 304 858 normal office hours or online from Racing Post - Google horse racing books.

I think that the value of late entries will depend upon several factors especially the Mackeson (much more meaningful than PP  ) and Irish results. I'm going to make an entry prior to the comp starting but I'm also not yet ruling out a late entry. Remember a lot of info seems to emerge in the last two weeks of November.

The biggest dissapointment is the fact there are no longer any monthly prizes, or a Cheltenham prize.

More on new Betfred TTF rules

The Tote has new owners in Betfred who are now running the TTF competition.
The game runs from 16th November 2012 to 6th April 2013.
Entry coupons for the TTF are now available from any Betfred betting shop.
Betfred have made a few changes to the competition rules:
  • dropping cost per line from £10 to £5
    scrapping of substitutions
granting of Tote win & place odds, as points, to every runner when they win or are placed
    ditching of the monthly prizes.
The Peter Martin site, from which the above is extracted, also wonders if Betfred have lost the support of the Racing Post and their generous twice-a-week coverage. Otherwise, the new competition could kick off only to sink into relative oblivion for the next five months, similar to what unfortunately happens to the William Hill TTF each season.

One improvement is the ditching of the two dodgy bonus races, anybody who has played before knows which they are, in favour of the more sensible International (Bula) and Aintree Hurdles.

Ten to Follow 2012-13

Post by SamD »

As some have expressed disappointment at the loss of the monthly consolation prizes, the organisers have announced a compromise in the Racing Post of 8 November: there will now be a half-way prize of £5,000 for the person who is in the lead on 31 December 2012.

Sprinter Sacre is the most popular selection currently. Scoring begins on Fri 16 Nov.

Fly - Top class. Shortlist
C&A - could be anything but up against hardened hurdlers. Shortlist
SS - Arkle winner could be the best we've seen over 2m for quite a while.
Simonsig - could be top class.
Grands Crus - form tailed off last 2 starts but could also be top class 21/2 miler - PP, Ryanair
Long Run. Something to prove, but top class over 3m. Needs to sort out its jumping to regain the crown
SDC - Gold Cup ante post favourite. Could be very very good but was fortunate to get away with a horror mistake last time. Unbeaten
Bobs Worth. Should be an ever better chaser than a hurdler . Hennessy
Big Bucks. Almighty over 3m. But pretenders are coming closer and Rite of Passage could turn out to be a major threat (not in list).
Peddlers Cross - interesting. Top Class hurdler but has something to prove this year IMO

Not convinced this star horse thing is any use. Unless you've discovered a 33/1 shot for the PP or Hennessy and have starred it.

Have concerns over Big Bucks but leaving him out seems suicide. If the ex ascot gold cup champ RoP takes well back to hurdles then BB will have a huge task. The crop of ex novice chasers is very very good IMO. Best for years and the old guard may struggle to contain them (I hope). Likewise the hurdlers. Don't personally rate the current champion hurdler very highly and I do wonder if the Fly and Binocular (in particular) have had their time.

I do wonder if Sprinter will change the dynamic of the compo this year a shade. Opposing seems a waste and thus having one two miler may seem the right way to structure the 10.

The blue riband is the same IMO. Long Run has something to prove. If Flemenstar stays he'd be a candidate but may prove better at 21/2 or 3 at Kempton maybe (?). SdC looks impressive but hasn't stepped up in class yet and had his jumping tested properly. All the same I've had a few quid on for Cheltenham just after last year. Was tempted to put in Tea for Three for the national but if he runs in the Welsh at Xmas and wins he'll get slaughtered by the handicapper and the Welsh doesn't get double points.

Time For Rupert ruled out, according to TTF site on 14/11/2012:

"Hennessy Gold Cup hope Time For Rupert has a minor leg problem that will almost certainly keep him out for the remainder of the season."
