Exactly. As covered by "a cursory glance at the future implications".

I forgot last year once or twice so was more primed to not forget though it must be more difficult as you're in another timezone so you get the declarations at night time there.

Made my one public if that make any difference. Played it safe by having Irving plus the most likely winner then the one I was going to pick wins the other bonus race. Looks like we can make some ground Sunday if the results go right.

Missed the obvious winner there in Apple's Jade trying to be clever with the second favourite. Also because I having a weird picking thing by looking at the recent form numbers.

This weekend will be interesting.

Few things to ponder:

Do you bring in Sizing John or wait for Might a Bite?
Which tracks will be frozen off?

This really is a pretty dumbly designed competition when the rules almost force everyone to field very similar teams. This week most people have six horses running, (the odd manager has 7) and five of those six usually comprise the first two in the betting in the two bonus races, Un de Sceaux, and a sixth selection chosen from a small group of three or four horses. This reinforces my previous suggestion that this is primarily just a secretarial exercise.

The game organiser doesn't seem to have a clue about what they are doing, unless their intention was to bore everyone rigid.

The result is that the only racing interest I have this weekend is an ante post bet on Blacklion at twice current odds and little interest in the results of my Stable Stars as we'll all make very limited progress either up or down. It's as though I knew that half the field had around 9 of my players in their TFF teams.

Striker the overall leader has 570 points the leading fisoer has 440 points there has to be some skill involved to be that much in front - and memory
however this week i have remembered my transfers have brought in Sizing John but starred FN so theres a choice involved there and dont know anything about the weather disrupting things  so with two bonus races everyone wont have the same captain eh

Given the scoring system, everyone bar the odd eccentric will have Fox Norton as their star horse.

This weekend the only real skill required is meteorological.

The skill factor will come into play over the ChristmS period with lots of bonus races and only one star. I can see some teams that won’t have planned again to cover these races.

And some of us couldn't give a sh*t about missing out on Might Bite as long as he wins. And if he doesn't, it doesn't matter.

No skill required even then. Logic forced the selection of both Fox Norton and Politologue and everyone got the 1-2. Anyone effectively taking evens on a 3/1 shot when they could have had evens on a 4/9 shot in a star horse toss up was simply being obtuse, not clever, and so most people got the wrong star horse. Today being obtuse paid off but in the long run it's a losing strategy.

In a comparison with other horses in other races no one came near Fox Norton's value of around 35 pts, (the approximate stake needed at 4/9 to get a total return of 50pts).

I do agree with striker in that the added transfers each week make the game too easy. Only those that forget to make changes will suffer. Perhaps the only skill comes in selecting the elite two, as with only one transfer there, you need to get those choices right.

I agree that three transfers has made the game easier. The key for me was changing the bonus races to races where the favorite doesn’t always win.

It's interesting this weekend that although nearly everyone and their dog has gone for the same Star Horse this weekend, there is far more variation in the rest of the selections than normal. Some have gone for both bonus races while some have gone for just one of them, (Sussex National is too difficult for me, at least when it was run at Fontwell you could focus on course specialists), while some have foregone the lesser chances of 50 pointers and gone for 10 pt penalty kicks. In addition amongst those who've gone for the bonus races, there is more variation than normal in their race selections.

This level of variation is largely due to the postponement of the Welsh National, so next week I'm guessing that we'll return to the high level of selection similarity that has been the main feature of this comp due to the silly unimaginative scoring system.

I know where youre coming from striker, although upsets do happen, but using Bonus racing as big handicaps certainly spreads the points or lack thereof (mine apparently went down like a ton of bricks when travelling well ) and if youre were wanting to stimulate betting surely the big handicaps is the way to drum up interest in the race and having a wager, , we havnt all got a lazy 1,000 to put on a hot favourite.

I agree the scoring system is extremely poor. Having bonus races as large field races certainly gives some diversity in selection but overall teams will still generally be very similar. The small number of elite horses in particular means most will have the same selections. Once one has made mistakes (for me forgetting to nap a horse once and napping the sadly deceased London prize and starchitect) you really are out of contention with no way back and thus a loss of interest. It's a shame as I think there is so much potential for a really good fantasy racing game but unfortunately it's not this one. I certainly think there should be some reward for finding some higher priced winners rather than everyone lumping on the 1/3 shot. Still it is what it is and I suppose better than nothing
