What's Ian Brown's FISO name?

He could win the monthly with the right pick today.

Last year I forgot several times but until last Friday when I again forgot, I'd been OK this year. So this week I did my transfer yesterday to be on the safe side.

Looks as though I chose the right week to forget as it seems that the odds were that I'd have scored zero even if I had remembered.

I still reckon that a Saturday noon cut off would be far more memorable, as it would mesh with messing around with fantasy football, while Friday evening is rarely a time for thinking about any form of fantasy game. As far as I am concerned the only time that it would be NATURAL, as opposed to an effort, to remember 9 pm Friday is if it was getting toward the end of the comp AND one was in serious contention for the top prize.

It's Saturday morning - its natural (for me at least) to think Fantasy Football and what's running this afternoon.

It's Friday evening - it natural to think of family time, restaurants and pubs, HIGNFY, - not bloody fantasy.

Rant over!

Probably just threw my chances away backing Capitaine.

Win for Death Duty tomorrow and leaders will be 150 plus points clear.

Stable Stars suggestion

Post by SamD »

@ Striker
Agree transfer deadline should be later than 9pm on Friday; perhaps 11am Sat (as meetings can begin before noon)?
Would also prefer two team changes per week!

Made both these points in feedback after last season's game. Anyone agreeing might consider doing same in April.

@ Asher
- 'Eli Jack' has been private for several weeks. So, in fairness to the 13 public teams, it's ineligible - like 'Allamoor' - for the small Fiso award this season.

- yes, Death Duty, at 5/6*, duly won at Naas today. But second favourite Augusta Kate was challenging and had every chance when she fell at the last.

Looking at the coverage Augusta Kate may have been worse if it had won.

Long way to go yet, but Allamoor has every chance.

I'd endorse that. On the other hand something more needs to be done. Even with two transfers per week, most managers would be making similar moves. For example, this week instead of managers picking one horse from Death Duty, Augusta Kate, American Tom, Capitaine and Finian's Oscar, most would simply have selected two horses from the same list.

It needs a major overhaul to make it more interesting and to get more variation between stable entries. Ideally it needs a budget so that everyone can't just have a stable of the best horses. If there were so many transfers per season rather than so many per week, variation might increase. But the present situation where nearly everyone near the top, or even within the Fiso leagues, has very similar teams is far from ideal.

At the moment when there is a bonus race, most managers simply pick the favourite or a close second favourite, and star them. When there is no bonus race most simply look for short priced favourites in the more valuable races and star them. It's becoming a bit pointless for much of the season. It's certainly a bit of a bore. The scoring system is a major cause of this problem which virtually forces managers to focus on short priced favourites.

I agree Striker, the thing that is separting most people is the original lineups. Some had a better start and the others are trying to close the gaps.

Thoughts on a flat version of this?

Maybe the bonus races should be big handicaps where outsiders seem to win.

Broadly agree with this but the one small differential/ chance to show some element of skill is which horse you replace each week. By now anyone with hopes of doing well should have a full stable of Cheltenham bonus race favourites, so it's getting tricky deciding which one to drop.

Agree with what's been said. Increasing the transfers to two would help but still not a great game. I think that the problem is that most people interested in horse racing are interested in betting and just focussing on being able to get afew short priced bonus race winners does not really fit with the enjoyment of sussing out a "value bet". One 10/1 winner will earn you more than 9 even money shots but the ability to find "value" is not rewarded. As others have said teams are so similar and once you make a mistake ( I decided not to go with native river - for either wins )it's virtually impossible to make up ground. I think there is great potential for a game based on horse racing but maybe with fantasy money involved with restrictions on how much can be bet on each race to prevent someone winning with one lucky selection. Still it's better than nothing and at least so far I've remembered my transfers each Friday.

Having forgotten again to make my transfer, I hope that Kempton and especially Punchestown are abandoned tomorrow.

But as racing is likely to go ahead, the obvious selection, Crack Mome, being beaten would be a consolation.

yes it is a very simple game, I can even play reasonably well from New Zealand without any prior knowledge of the horses, although I do know the trainers jockeys and some of the bonus races due to playing a FR game a few years ago, having an involvement in racing and reading the Sporting Life :D .
they need to have a better turnover of horses in a stable (more transfers) so as not to have the template and the Elite horses thing was a flop.
By the by I had kept Modus so starred him this week, and bought in Melbourne Cup placegetter Heartbreak City for next week's bonus race however i have read  Coral ie is not a race for favourites. - statistics i hate,
