Re: Fantasy Racing 2014-15 * The Jumps *
Providing feedback sounds like a good idea, so here are my instant responses to your suggestions.
1. Entry process. I assume that part of Hill's "raison d'etre" of the game is to get punters into their shops. If entry was only on-line or the option existed, footfall in their shops would fall. For example if there was an on-line option I wouldn't be making my annual visit to my local Hill's shop. If the game is to improve and flourish long term the interests of all parties, including Hills must be taken into account.
In fact I'm happy with the entry process, even if you come away from the counter with a wad of entry slips, like me, you can leave the shop within 2 minutes having checked all your entries.
2. Fully endorse.
3. Totally agree. If you are in serious contention playing the game is much more enjoyable if you know what you are competing against. This year anyone in contention will simply know if they've won or lost after the event, with a very limited idea of how they are doing on the final afternoon. The last afternoon of any fantasy game when you are in contention for a decent prize is one of the highlights of any fantasy game.
4. Agree
5. Disagree. I'd be in favour if the leagues comprised of genuine real life mates, workplace groups etc. But in fact it would be won by the likes of fiso. What's the point if there are very few genuinely competitive leagues from the start. Possibly if the prize was a day at the races for several people, but absolutely no cash, or any valuable, prize. But basically no!
6. No sops to everyone getting a prize. Winners should win big, others should get nothing. And as you know I say this having been beaten a nose into 5th place last season in a 7 or 8 punter photo finish. The present prize structure is fair. Given an entry fee take of around £330,000 and considerable expenses, Hills are making very little direct profit from the game but are boosting their brand (and would be more so with better publicity and some of the changes that you are proposing) and providing the likes of us with several months fun.
7. Seems a decent idea, they need to do more to keep the game alive. So in addition to weekly updates in the shops, they should publish tables regularly in the Racing Post, who would be a better partner (now that the fantasy game in which they had an interest, TTTF, has thanks to Fred's pathetic custodianship, disappeared) than their current gutter press partners. Even if the Post didn't match the 10 grand or whatever it's partners are currently providing, the league table and extra publicity in the main racing paper would be worth it, I'd have thought.

Re: Fantasy Racing 2014-15 * The Jumps *
My feedback:
1) Should have to open your first entry at a William Hill branch and then have the option to add further stables online once this has been done. (Would ensure footfall remained, but you wouldn't have to spend 30 minutes waiting for a cashier to process your entries)
2) Totally agree
3) Totally agree and maybe the use of a transfer window in February.
4) Agree
5) Mini league prize would be nice, but should be something like a VIP day at The Grand National. Mini Leagues should be restricted to 20 people to ensure that leagues liker FISO are not guaranteed to win.
6) Happy with current prize pool.
7) Decent idea.
8) To have a flat version of the game as well.

Agree with Sam's ideas. Ashers suggestion of a Flat version interesting but they might be wary of offering similar prize levels as the NH game historically had higher levels. Suggest they do one starting at around 25K with more promised if entries allow. This is the one game which for me fits the old saying "It's not the winning, it's the taking part"

Wins for Champagne Fever and Balder Success should shake a few teams up.

Balder Succes very good for me. Now at least I have some interest in the Ryanair. No sign of a victory from that handicapper of Mr Henderson's masquerading as a grade 2. County Hurdle?

Rocky Creek 33 points was good for some lower teams of mine but my best is now 50 points behind so going to need a very good bingo card at Cheltenham.

Re: Fantasy Racing 2014-15 * The Jumps *
That's a facet of this game, by now generally you don't want your own horses to win unless they are in your better teams. I have just one Rocky Creek in a team which won't be troubling the judge come March 13th, so I was hoping that a horse not on The Jumps list would win.7lb claimer wrote:Rocky Creek 33 points was good for some lower teams of mine but my best is now 50 points behind so going to need a very good bingo card at Cheltenham.

Re: Fantasy Racing 2014-15 * The Jumps *
I had all his selections in one team or another .. in the case of Un De Sceaux and Uxizandre it was literally only one team and nothing much to back it up Nice pick up for the winner .. puts most fantasy football prizes to shame. If it's back next season, I will be too. I had some small hope right up until day 2 at Cheltenham, so good entertainment value for money. A Fiso syndicate might be interesting next season.

1. Spot on. 2. Ditto 3. Ditto 4. Spot on. 5. No way - much more enjoyable trying to win a significant sum. Fantasy is one of the acceptable faces of capitalism and shouldn't be the vehicle for some sharing socialist bollox.7lb claimer wrote:1.puts most fantasy football prizes to shame. 2.
