EURO U21 2015 Scouting/Team Guide/Info

Post by Stemania »

Basically I always have an ongoing research notes sheet before these tournaments (though usually it is secretly shared/made with the help of teamates from Taca's comps). But since this year it's just free for all I thought it would be useful to combine knowledge so will just keep it as this OP. This is what I've gleaned so far from the internet/previous lineups/FFS. I'll keep this updated if people find/post other better new info below. (Disclaimer: I don't claim any of this to be 100% correct, just the best guess based on mine/other's research from many many websites and stats places). Enjoy (and contribute) - let's try and get a FISO winner!: :D

I've added some predicted lineups as they may be useful to people. These are my own based on what I think the most likely from a joining of various 'in the know' opinions. Not an exact science so they may be completely off - don't blame me if it goes badly wrong - but they should give an idea. I've emboldened the names when I think the position is fairly secure - note, I've in some places been generous with the bold. Otherwise it's just best guess with sometimes a likely alternative in brackets.

Czech Republic
(Note, we will know their first lineup before the Matchday 1 deadline)

Koublek generally expected to start in goal but far from certain - keeper has changed through qualifying. Manager initially preferred Pavlenka but apparently now is edging towards Koubeck.
Kalas, Kadeřábek nailed on in defence, hard to say. Brabec captain so will very likely start too. Kalas/Brabec are CBs.
Kadeřábek fast attacking RB who likes to bomb forward, seen as the star of their defence by many.
Kalas IS SUSPENDED for first game so Baranek should start first game - be wary of jumping on him if he does start if this is the case.
Takács is perhaps going to play OOP in defensive mid but is not certain to start.
No idea who starts at LB - any one of Hanousek, Frydek, Hybs.
Midfield is a bit of a minefield. Houska likely freekick taker if he starts, but he may not.
Travnik should start as the advanced centre mid. Krejčí left mid.
Masopust (4.5 mid) has a chance of starting ahead of Skalak at RM - he's started the last 3 having recovered from a serious injury last summer. Skalac can play as striker if they go two up top. Skalak still favourite for the RW spot though.
Přikryl did well in qualifying but probably won't be in strongest eleven. Krejčí favourite for LW spot.
Kadlec (6.5m) main (likely lone) striker for CR and 'likely' on pens but IS DEFINITELY SUSPENDED for the first game. Skalák took pen in latest friendly from bench, but Kadlec not playing so unclear. Kadlec one of extremely few likely staring sub-8.5m strikers in the game, though see Portugal/Serbia. One of the midfield listed Přikryl and Skalak will fill very likely in as a striker in game 1.

Suffered a big blow as main man Vydra was not allowed to participate in tournament by evil Watford. Have drawn with Denmark (2-2) & Germany (1-1) and beat Portugal (1-0) in most recent friendlies. Likely formation: 4231/451 with Kadeřábek bombing forward.

-------------------Koubeck(Pavlenka)-----------
Kadeřábek, Brabec, Kalas*, Frydek/Hanousek/Hybs
------------------Petrak---Zmrhal----------------
Skalak(/Masopust/Prikryl)-----Travnik-----Krejčí
---------------------Kadlec*-------------------------

*suspended for game 1 (Baranek & Prikryl should deputize respectively)

Denmark
(Note, we will know their first lineup before the Matchday 1 deadline)

Busk (4.0) played in goal last friendly, but Rønnow came on for last half hour. Jensen stayed on bench. It appears that there has been a mixup at UEFA as "Jensen" has played all the qualifyers, but in fact Busk's surname is Jensen and it is him who has played them all, not the 5.5m Jensen in the game. So, seemingly a secure 4.0m keeper. Manager interview suggests Rønnow is at least challenging however.
Vestegaard has good scoring record for a CB (3 goals 3 assists in qualifying) and nailed on - takes some direct set pieces in thunderb*stard style.
Scholz (4.0) is naturally a CB but has played the last two games at RB. Remmer (@3) could challenge but unlikely so Scholz looks a good cheap pretty sure starter. Banggaad or Sørensen (4.0m) likely to start alongside at CB, but the former got sent off in friendly so may be in dog house - the latter perhaps most likely. Durmisi and Knudsen both very attacking LBs but in direct competition to start. Whoever gets the nod will likely do well.
A Christensen will play OOP in defensive mid, but drops back into defence to let the full backs go forward.
Hojbjerg main man in midfield, but LV Christensen often scores well too. Thomsen has 3 goals 5 assists in qualifying, but not sure to start.
Hojbjerg likely on pens, nailed on.
Knudsen & Thomsen generally share freekicks/corners, but neither certain to start.
Nørgaard competing with LVC for spot, but LVC likely to be given first turn.
Brock-Madsen scored two in last friendly (an took pen) - Fischer & Sisto top two and they were with seniors and missed game. Fischer likely their main man. EDIT: Starting strikers unclear. Was told Fischer may play up top, but more likely LW. Fischer described as 'striker' by UEFA - can play as a winger of though the middle, has only just returned from 14 months out injured but is the star. Poulsen has started RW/LW a few times in the past for the U21s but can play as striker. Seeing lineup first will be very useful. Front three usually pretty fluid. Probably the hardest forward line to predict - nine players scored more than two goals for them in qualifying. Fischer the only one really nailed on from what I can see. Thomson very likely to miss out. Poulsen has played well for seniors recently so is likely to be squeezed in somewhere.

Okore a big miss in defence. Draw merchants in recent games: four drawn of last five (Iceland 0-0 & 1-1, CR 2-2, Sweden 2-2) and one win (Italy 1-0). Likely formation: 433 like seniors, LB will bomb forward, DM drop back. Very fluid front three.

--------------------------Busk-------------------------
Scholz, Sørensen(Bangaard), Vestergaard, Knudsen(Durmisi)
----------------------A Christensen--------------------
-------------LV Christensen-------Højbjerg---------
Sisto/Poulsen/Bech-----------------------------Fischer(Thomsen)
---------------------Brock-Madsen/Poulsen(/Fischer)-------------------------

Germany

Likey defence: MATS; Can/Korb, Knoche, Ginter, Günter/Schulz.
Korb (4.5) could be a bargain, but Emre Can could easily play RB instead.
Gunter looks first choice at LB, but is being challenged hard by Schulz.
Geis usually steals most set pieces but is a defensive mid unfortunately and not nailed. Basically the defensive midfield places are very competitve due to so much talent, Leitner, Geis, Can are all competing for the two slots. Can will strongly challenge for RB too. Mayer & Arnold regarded by many as excellent players, but even they may not be nailed, especially Arnold. Mayer most likely and should be in hole.
Volland is 'best' striker but Hoffman scored very well in friendlies. Volland likely to be pushed out wide, with P Hoffman central striker.
Hofmann or Leitner likely on pens. There's a genuine chance Volland could play up top on his own with Hoffman missing out to squeeze in another one of their other excellent mids. Malli, Younes and the excellent Bittencourt will compete for the open wide slot with whoever else misses out in midfeld. Bittencourt maybe now favourite due to experience. Mayer could play LM allowing Arnold (or even the third one of Leitner/Can/Geis) to slot in centrally.

Form is mixed. In last friendlies two draws (CR 1-1, Italy 2-2) a win (Netherlands 3-1) and a loss (England 3-2). Likely formation: standard German 4321/4231.

--------------------ter Stegen--------------
Korb(Can), Knoche, Ginter, Günter/Schulz.
--------Leitner/Can/Geis---Leitner/Can/Geis-----------
Volland---------Mayer(/Arnold/LCG)-----Bittencourt(Mayer/Malli/Younes)
---------------------P. Hoffman(Volland)-------------------------

Serbia

Dmitrović expected GK.
Petković is a RB and is captain but has been in and out with injury a lot. Replacement RB Stojkovic (also 3.5) has played well, but Petković has a very very good chance of being a starter (@3.5).
Petrovic pretty certain to start in defence at LB.
Essentially, CB seems completely up for grabs, could be any two of Ćosić/Ćirković/Spajić/Pantić. None have consistently started, the latter two perhaps the most likely, especially Pantić.
Defensive midfield is very competitive with Čaušić, Mijailović, Brasanic and Kovačević all competing. Perhaps Čaušić and Brasanic are favourites despite Mijailović's recent senior call. Tough.
Jojic and Kostic nailed on in midfield and possibly 'best' bets for points there - both excellent wide men.
Đuričić also very talented playmaker and should start, but hasn't played at club level too much in the last couple of years.
Kostic on most set pieces (but Jojic could take some).
Jojic likely on pens, but could also be Kostic.
Edit: Kostic is rumoured to be having a dispute with club vs country so may be withdrawn - IN FACT I HEAR HE HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN (BUT I CAN'T FIND FORMAL CONFIRMATION ANYWHERE). Jojic should take over all set piece duties. Srnić will very likely come in at LW in place of Kostic, with Milunovic the other challenger. Jojic could easily play CM instead of RW and both Srnić & Milunovic start.
Pesic nailed on striker.

Not at their strongest after Nastasić, Marković and Mitrović left out to concentrate on seniors then have summer rest. Put out Spain in qualifying playoff. Reasonable form - two wins (Spain 2-1, Italy 1-0) a draw (Spain 0-0) and a loss (Sweden 1-0). Likely formation: defensive 4231/451.

--------------------Dmitrović--------------
Petković, Pantić, Spajić(/Ćirković/Ćosić), Petrović.
------Brasanac(Mijailović)-------Čaušić(Mijailović)---------
Jojić-------------Đuričić---------------Srnić/Milunovic (but Kostic if available)
-------------------------Pešić-------------------------

England

Expected defence: Butland; Jenkinson, Chambers/Keane/Gibson/Moore, Stones, Garbutt
Garbutt on some set pieces. JWP on most others. (except Kane on odd direct freekick). Corners often split between many.
Gibson played 90 mins in final friendly scoring winner and looks favourite (Note, you have to view defenders only in the England transfers tab to see him @4.5 for some reason). Chambers/Stones played 45 each. Moore has played many of the qualifiers.
Hughes/Redmond/JWP look pretty nailed on in midfield, though JWP had a bad last game apparently. Carroll has played a lot in qualifying (and started the friendly yesterday) so is probably favourite to join them, though uncertain if/where Lingaard slots in. Loftus-Cheek played well in friendly apparently, may sneak in but unlikely. Pritchard also started but expected not to be in strongest eleven. Kane & Ings on bench last friendly, but surely Kane will start. :o
Berahino likely on pens, top scorer in qualifying, looks nailed - took pen ahead of Kane in playoffs. But probably not central striker.
Predicted front three: Redmond - Kane - Berahino.

Good form - four wins in last five (Portugal 3-1, CR 1-0, Germany 3-2, Belarus 1-0) and a loss (France 3-2). Likely formation: 433/4231 like seniors currently do.

--------------------------Butland-------------------------
Jenkinson, Gibson(/Chambers/Keane/Moore), Stones, Garbutt
----------------------Carroll(/Loftus-Cheek)--------------------
------------Ward-Prowse-------Hughes---------
Redmond------------------------------------Berahino
---------------------Kane-------------------------

Italy

Likely defence: Bardi; Zappacosta, Rugani, Bianchetti/Romagnoli, Biraghi
Bardi should play in goal but hasn't had a good domestic season.
Bianchetti probably favourite to partner the nailed on Rugani, but 4.0m Romagnoli has apparently forged a good partnership with him and played a lot in qualifying - could go either way. Romagnoli played ahead of Bianchetti in final friendly so could be worth a gamble.
Very competitive for DM, Viviani possibly favourite but has strong competition from Cataldi and Crisetig. Even Sturaro not absolutely nailed on to start (but is tipped to) and may not play as far forward as his price suggests. Benassi is competing for a DM spot but I've not seen him in any predicted lineups.
Viviani talented defensive playmaker (in Pirlo mould) and likely on most set pieces if he plays, but may well not play. Otherwise Baselli may take them. He should be nailed on in creative but possibly deep role. Bernardeschi likely a wide player although could slot into hole - could play depending on formation, but Trotta in a 433 is strongly competing, as is Battocchio who has started the recent friendly (he can also play in the hole if necessary).
Belotti & Berardi almost certain start up top, Barardi possibly slightly withdrawn no 10 role but far more likely out wide right - he's scored lots for his club as a striker, but only one for the U21s in his wide position.
Berardi considered the better player generally and favourite with bookies to be Italy's top scorer but Belotti outscored him in qualifying. Belotti on pens in last U21 game but Berardi has a much better record for club - could go either way. Berardi is undoubtedly the star player though, but will be out wide.

Dodgy form: two losses (Denmark 1-0, Serbia 1-0) in last four, one win (Italy U21 B team 4-1!) and a draw (Germany 2-2). Likely formation 433/4231 - have chopped and changed in qualifying, might be somewhere in between the two with Baselli sometimes dropping deep to make the double pivot. If 4231 then Viviani/Cataldi probably start alongside Baselli with Sturaro further forward, if 433 then Bernadeshi may come in at attacking mid.

--------------------Bardi----------------
Zappacosta, Rugani, Romagnoli(Bianchetti), Biraghi
----Sturaro---Viviani(DM)/Cataldi(DM)/Bernadeshi(AM)----Baselli---------
Berardi------------------------------------Battocchio(/Bernardeschi)
---------------------Belotti-------------------------

Portugal

GK: Should be Sa, but small chance of Varela (@3.5)
defence: Esgaio/Cancelo(4.5), POliveira, Ilori/Figueiredo, Guerreiro (4.0).
S Oliviera (then Esgaio) has taken pens before, but not certain starters and who knows - could be a striker on pens instead.
Common captain (when the senior internationals are not there) S Oliviera main set piece taker but possibly not nailed on to start, but decent chance. May be Silva on set pieces otherwise.
Bernardo Silva regarded as main man in terms of attacking talent, should play in 'Oscar role' in 4231, or attacking mid in 433. Winger Pereira should start RW and is also creative but is very capable of playing RB (a la Antonio Valencia) if the manager wants to squeeze in some extra talent in midfield. William Carvalho is nailed in defensive midfield. João Mári is an attacking mid with a lot of ability, but may not squeeze in, probably in direct competition with S Oliviera. Lot's of talent in midfield, not sure who will miss out. Neves could realistically start in a deeper role alongside WC if it's 4231 with both SO and JM missing out.
S Oliviera might be worth the gamble, but it is a gamble.
Many wide options available and no clear favourite. Rafa and Mane have played a lot in qualifying - could easily see Pereira moved to RB for this reason.
Paciência is natural striker 'should' start as he's just about ther only one - one of very few cheap strikers at a big team with a chance in whole game (7.5m) - but not nailed on and not really a worldbeater - no other strikers sure to start either, depends on system. Cavaleiro more a winger so probably overpriced and probably won't start as a striker, but could displace Paciência very easily. NOTE: the bookies seem to disagree and have Cavaleiro as their likely top scorer. Horta should be backup striker.
Eight full internationals - most of any team I think. Extremely hard team to predict for this reason, especially in midfield, with it being unclear which reglar players will lose their spots to seniors and their likely formation still being up in the air a bit.

Poor form (but without big guns): After goal fest with Netherlands in playoff (2-0 and 5-4 wins) they've lost two (England 3-1, CR 1-0) and drawn one (Denmark 0-0). Likely formation 433 or 4231, not sure, don't think the coach has decided yet. Could even be 442.

--------------------Sa--------------
Cancelo/Esgaio, P Oliveira , Ilori(Figueiredo), Guerreiro
--------------------------William Carvalho------------------------
--------------------Silva-------S Oliviera/João Mári---------------
Pereira-------------------------------Rafa/Mané/Cavaleiro
---------------------Paciência/Cavaliero-------------------------

Sweden

Carlgren GK.
Holmén, Helander, Milošević, Augustinsson most likely defenders in some order (now RB Krafth has apparently withdrawn from squad), not clear. Milošević and Helander probably most likely to start at CB. Augustinsson is strong left back and - he's been in the senior squad with Milošević - meaning 4.0m Konate probably misses out despite playing last friendly at LB. Right back is completely up in the air after first choice Krafth pulled out injured (either natural CB Holmen, called up replacement Lindelof, or left back Konate out of position could fill in).
Hiljemark nailed on captain but is lacking match practice. Lewicki very likely sitting defensive mid.
Khalili (5.5 mid), started last friendly. Very good chance of playing LM, but competition from Olssen.
Quaison has a very good chance of playing wide right, but again Olssen competes.
Olsson has played well in final qualifyer - can play attacking or defensive mid or wide.
Guidetti nailed on and on pens. Thelin/Ishak/Hrgota fighting for other striker spot. Thelin has done well in qualifiers, will most likely get nod.

Pretty good form. Drawn three (Cyprus 1-1, Austria 2-2, Denmark 2-2) and won two (Serbia 1-0, Russia 2-0) of last five games. Likely formation: 442 with attacking fullbacks.

--------------------Carlgren--------------
Holmén(/Lindelof/Konate), Milošević(/Holmen), Helander, Augustinsson
-----------------Hiljemark---Lewicki----------------
Quaison-------------------------------------------Khalili(/Olssen)
-------------Guidetti-------Thelin---------

Qualifying Numbers:

Finally, here's some qualifying tallies (taken from FFS). Note, they are a bit misleading as many of the big players didn't play in qualifiers as they were in senior squads or injured (eg, Fischer etc. Mayer/Arnold played 4 games between them etc)

Top Goalscorers (of teams left in):
Berahino 10
P. Hofmann (the one in the Germany squad) 7
Volland 6
Kane 6
Belotti 6
J. Hofmann (not in the Germany squad) 5
L.V. Christensen 5
Poulsen 4
Hojbjerg 4

Top Assisters (of teams left in):
Tom Carroll 4
Ince 4
J. Hofmann 3
Pesic 3
Volland 3
Younes 3
Vestergaard 3
Can 3
Knudsen 3
Zaha 3

Clean Sheets (excluding friendlies - qualifiers and playoff games only):

England 12 Games 8 CS
Germany 10 Games 7 CS
Denmark 12 Games 6 CS
Portugal 10 Games 5 CS
Italy 10 Games 4 CS
Serbia 10 Games 3 CS
Sweden 10 Games 2 CS

Players with National team the weekend before:

Some of the players currently with senior squads might not make the first game for their U21 sides due to arriving to their squads late. There may be no problems, but just in case I believe the whole list of such players is:

Czech Republic: Krejčí, Kadlec
Denmark: Fischer, Sisto, Hojbjerg, Vestergaard, A. Christensen, Poulsen
Portugal: Silva, William, Pereira
Serbia: Đuričić, Kostić
Sweden: Augustinsson, Milošević, Thelin

(sorry for generally not citing my sources, which is bad form, but there's generally too many to quote and many things I've forgotten where I read them)

Thanks for the stats and team predictions, quite helpful. Not sure if I picked the best options, but I am at least quite certain now that most of them will be in starting lineups :D.

That's really awesome, thanks Stem.

I'm glad you identified Petkovic and Guerreiro as I'd picked them out from the stats on the qualifying campaign here:

http://uk.soccerway.com/international/e ... nd/r20361/

Also glad that you found out something about the Denmark strikers because I couldn't work out who was going to play and Wikipedia lists the two 9.5ers as left winger/midfielders. Scholz was new to me and has gone into my team.

Rumours that some of the players currently with senior squads might not make the first game for their U21 sides due to arriving to their squads late.

So far the list of those with senior squads (which I've just compiled from wiki squads) includes at least:

Czech Republic: Krejčí, Kadlec
Denmark: Fischer, Sisto, Hojbjerg, Vestergaard, A. Christensen, Poulsen
Portugal: Silva, William, Pereira
Serbia: Đuričić, Kostić
Sweden: Augustinsson, Milošević, Thelin

Might be worth keeping an eye on all of these just in case. There may be no problems, or there may be massive problems.

@Mav, btw, I'm a bit less convinced on Fisher & Sisto playing as strikers - my original source I can no longer find. Brock-Madson may be the man after all - very hard to say. I'd change my Denmark striker starter list to unknown.

What's the general consensus? Group A is Germany +1 with group B being a bit tighter and Sweden not quite up to the standard of the other 3?

OP updated with recent form, likely formations and other small changes.

Yep, I think that's about right. Germany defo favourites from Group A. Denmark seen by many as dark horses, but Serbia have done really well recently. Serbia are though missing some very big players due to them being needed by seniors and then rested (Nastasić, Marković and Mitrović). Czech Republic generally expected to struggle despite being at home.

England favourites from Group B. Then any one from three, with Sweden generally seen as weakest. Italy have a lot of international experience in their squad, as do now Portugal - both have struggled for form recently.

What defences do we think are best? Was looking at Germany and Italy, but thinking I need these players in my front six.

This is excellent Ste, thank you for sharing. Going by the previous tournament and the one before, having even relatively minor experience at senior level tends to bode well for performance here - Switzerland and Spain in 2011 were heavily boosted by drop downs and both advanced through the groups with relative ease. Italy don't have a single player with senior experience.

The betting gives a good indication of the state of play (longest odds via Oddschecker):

Germany - 11/4
England - 5
Portugal - 6
Italy - 15/2
Denmark - 11
Serbia - 12
Czech - 14
Sweden - 16

And for top scorer (top 6) -
Kane - 6
Volland - 6
Hofmann - 6
Berahino - 10
Berardi - 12
Ings - 16

As for tactics:

First thing to remember is that you have manager substitution here, so having a balance between Group A and B, and one solid captaincy choice from each group is a must. Transfer cost 2pts after the freebies (2 for MD2+3, 6 for 4+5), so there is no reason not go switch around quite freely provided your kid plays the full game (2pts for +60m). You'll probably have a fair idea after MD2 who is getting through, so playing that WC on MD3 seems like the way to go. And if you do take that approach, then those fours starting fixtures a crucial, both in terms of your starting squad and being in a position to switching for MD2.

Home field advantage doesn't offer any sort of uplift in the Czechs chances - Israel and Denmark fell at the first hurdle when on hosting duties in the last two competitions.

RMT this (Thursday starters in bold):

Koubek (Cze), Carlgren (Swe)

Vestergaard (Den), A Chistensen (Den), Korb (Ger), Keane (Eng), Guerreiro (Por)

Redmond (Eng), Meyer (Ger), Masopust (Cze), Arnold (Ger), Gustafsson (Swe)

Kadlec (Cze), Guidetti (Swe), Kane (Eng)

I plan on bringing in Duricic for MD2 on the basis that he won't plan in MD1, though if there was reason to believe he would play in MD1 then that would test my resolve. Bruno Silva is tempting as well, but Meyer and Arnold are clearly great players.

First draft
image.jpg
Some strategies:
Cheap Czechs. They play first in all three game weeks therefore there will be at least a couple of points in the bag guaranteed.
3 Germans, Italians and English. I'd really like some defensive blocks in there as it's a short tourney but they're too expensive
8-7 split in favour of group A
The Swedish guy will probably go when I change my team for the first match when the lineups are known. It will be down to how much cash I have left.

Don't you rate Guidetti, Ste? Seems to have done really well all the way through the age groups, reminds of Marcus Berg. Got to be as must-have as Keane for me.

Yeah, he's a good striker and will probably monopolise Sweden's points, the problem is I don't think there will be too many Swedish points due to their very tough group.

I'd go Garbutt over Keane as an England defender by miles. I assume you meant Kane.

Yeah. I'm hedging my bets for the first match then maxing out on Germany, England and
Italy. Kadlec seems the best of the budget strikers. The teams all look fairly evenly matched. More research to be done though.

First thing to remember is that you have manager substitution here
http://en.u21fantasy.uefa.com/UEFA/1581 ... stitutions
Manager substitutions
Manager substitutions allow you more flexibility to make alterations within a matchday period.
After all matches on a single day have finished and before the next matches start, you can:
  • Replace any player (unless they were sent off) with one from your bench whose team is yet to play.
Change your captain (if he was not sent off), with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play.
Rules look like to be clear on the subject...
My only doubt is that they ARE DIFFERENT from the FIFA WC Fantasy, where you could do manual subs ANYTIME before single matches started
For instance, with FIFA Rules, I could have captained say Koubek for the first match, and if I wasn't satisfied with his score, I could 've switched Captain to a German player in between the afternoon match (CZE-DEN) and the evening one (GER-SRB)
Under the UEFA Rules, this doesn't appear to be possible: we can change Captain only after ALL June 17th matches have finished,
that is after GER-SRB, not just after CZE-DEN
Jun17 Capt pick must thus be our best call for BOTH CZE-DEN and GER-SRB matches

Similarly, imagine two out of my three 1st day defenders get good scores, and I kept one Ita and one Eng on my bench
(say, Rugani and Stones, to go by the Most Selected filter)
  • under FIFA Rules, I could first bring in Rugani for the worst of the three, then, after the Ita match, decide who to bring in Stones for, depending on Rugani score: If the italian had a bad day I could for instance keep the two original defs and bring in Stones for Rugani
  • under the abovequoted UEFA Rules instead, I'll have to bring in all three outfield benchers who play Jun18, benching the 3 worst Jun17 scores in my outfiled X, without having the chance to reassess inbetween the two Jun18 matches
the same with Captain, if my Jun17 pick didn't score well, I cannot switch say to Berardi first, and then eventually furtherly switch to Kane in case the Sassuolo striker failed: I have to choose my best final pick for BOTH Ita and Eng matches before the first match starts
___

to be on the safe side, I'm considering to write the fantasy.support@uefa.com to ask for an explicit confirmation of my above "interpretation"...

Good work MoSe.

I've made a few more tweaks (eg. correcting poor mis-assessment of Viviano's position). I'm tempted to have a go at actually predicting full starting lineups, but I think that's just asking for embarrassment. Not sure they'd be accurate enough to be useful as in some cases the guess percentage would be very high.

Edit: and now lots more info about the CR team added. Including some very important possible suspended player news (Kalas, Kadlec) which I'm trying to verify. And updating of likely formations.

Commenters on FFS are suggesting that Busk (Denmark keeper, 4.0) is actually the number 1 due to a mix up in names:

"I mentioned the other day that Busk was the number 1 for Denmark u21. His last name is Jensen and he's the correct Jensen who started all the qualifiers. They must have got their names muddled up"

Ha ha, brilliant. I think you are correct - wiki shows that Busk has played 11 times for the U21s but Jensen has never played for them (only U20s).

Dead cert in everyone's team then...

It's almost a pity that we will know the lineups before that game as Busk, Scholz and Petkovic (the researchers' dream of cheap enabling defenders) will likely become widespread.

This is now confirmed. Don't plan to start with Kadlec or Kalas.

What are your thoughts on Jugas 3.0m and picked by 12% is he likely to start every czech game?

I think he's pretty certain not to start actually (mainly picked as a minimally priced bench rotter I guess). The Czech defence should be

Kadeřábek, Brabec, Kalas (suspended for game 1 so Baranek likely in), Hanousek/Frydek/Hybs,

as far as I understand. I think Takács (the most expensive defender in the game for them) is actually more likely to play as a defensive mid, but not guarenteed a start. If you are wanting a Czech defender, Kadeřábek is the pick - 4 goals and 7 assists last season in the league or something like that - the Ivanovic of the Czech team, but 4.5m.

Cheers was thinking more on the lines of gambling on 3 czech defenders! With Italians as back up,may have a rethink on that idea.

These four seem like they have decent scoring records for their club and are worthy of consideration.
Kaderabek (4.5)
Vestergaard (5.5)
Knoche (6.0)
Guerreiro (4.0)

Most of the Swedish frontline and defence have full caps. Italy don't seem to have much experience or firepower so I'm having second thoughts about them.

Same England play Portugal first as I think these two will be first and second.

Looks to be like Germany and Denmark in the other group.

Will base team on these four and then fill around with Italians.

'tis correct:
You are correct - manual substitutions can only be made on a day-to-day basis, rather than between two matches on the same day.

Thus your team at the first deadline (17/06/2015 17:45 CET)
will be your team for both the Czech Republic vs Denmark match and also the Germany vs Serbia match.

After the later match - at 23:00 CET - the manual substitutions window will open
and you can make substitutions which will be active for both the Italy vs Sweden match and also the England vs Portugal match on Thursday.

Therefore we recommend you plan wisely and take into consideration both matces on each day during the group stage!
Kind regards and very best of luck!
