Hmmm...
Lionel Messi was not World Cup's best player and won Golden Ball for marketing reasons, says Diego Maradona

Indeed adamhino topped the league, but rumour has it that Fiso will actually award the winner's trophy to spiderm4tt. I'd told that this has nothing to do with the lucrative sponsorship deal he has with the site's partners...

What was their overall rank? I forgot to register in the league.

Similarly, the people of Rwanda are probably all thinking "who is this Mo person who is top of our national league?" :D

Phillip Lahm retires from international football, at the ripe old age of 30!

I can understand it, going out on a high and it'll be better for his long term fitness. Wouldn't surprise me to find him doing TV work during Germany games as well.

Why doesn't he stay for the Euros? If they win that he'll have every honour possible?

If is the operative word there though. This way he goes out as a WC winning captain rather than potentially a Euro losing captain. Also, at 32 and with their youth set up there's more than a chance that he'll play a diminished role and I guess that's not the way he wants to go out.

I suppose that's quite a way to go out, can't exactly top that in international football... entered World Cup football with a tournament-opening screamer in 2006 and went out lifting the trophy as captain. Still seems premature as he could have had another World Cup in him and his versatility would surely have given him a part to play. Would be crazy if Klose is at Euro '16 at the age of 38 and he isn't!

Next Germany captain then... Schweinsteiger? Neuer? Anyway, they will need to find a couple of full-backs...

Think his press statement said he'd made the decision in the middle of last season, well before the world cup.

The sad thing is it could well be more about extending his earning potential in domestic football by removing the pressure/risk of international games.
