Gameweek 29

Post by Totelfootball »

So what’s new in the world of Premiership football this week?

1) Well, it’s now official that Stephen Ireland hates everything. He gave an article in the French football magazine So Foot and expressed his dislike of managers Gerard Houllier and Giovanni Trappatoni, stated that “Birmingham is a crap city” and that he’d “rather shoot myself than live in Cork”, his home town. Too much agression – I think cage fighting might be a good option for Stephen.

2) While on that topic, Eric Cantona tells why his kung fu kick was one of his career highlights. Check it out here

3) All controversial refereeing decisions are not awarded in favour of Man Utd. Ferguson was incensed when the ref awared a penalty against United and also sent off Vidic in stoppage time during the 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

4) The Premiership battle is on in earnest. Arsenal are only 4 points behind with 1 game in hand.

5) Football is not quite free from drugs. City defender Kolo Toure is suspended after testing positive for a specified substance. No sure as yet whether the means Class A controband or if Kolo might have taken a Nurofen too many. We suspect the latter but he’s suspended pending further investigation.

6) Ireland beat England at cricket in the World Cup. If you’re only as good as your last game, does this mean that Ireland are better than England at cricket? I know this isn’t totally related to football but we got to celebrate our tiny triumphs
Down to business and your fantasy football betting fix for the week-end. For what it’s worth, here’s our assessment…

There are 9 games in the TotelFootball competition this week-end, again we ignore the early Saturday start. Let’s start with the easy ones. Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea are the bookie hot-pots this week-end. We’re not going to second guess their expertise so we’d suggest that you look closely at these games.

Arsenal welcome Sunderland to the Emirates. They are in great form of late and fresh from a 5-0 victory over Leyton Orient in the Cup mid-week. Bendtner scored a hat-trick and might be a good option to put in up front in place of the injured Van Persie. Pick another Arsenal player of your choice as they are likely to perform well all over the field.

City too had a good display mid-week with a 3-0 win over Villa. They’ll be too good for Wigan and should score well against one of the weakest defences in the Premiership. Tevez and your choice of Toure (non specified substance taking one), Silva, Dzeko or Kolarov. Kolarov of Manchester City is also something of a long-range specialist and is likely to get the shut-out bonus as well.

Last easy one is Chelsea. Now that they’ve revitalised their slim title chances, they are likely to rediscover some of their early season swagger. Will Torres also rediscover his flare? They’ll be extremely dangerous WHEN he does & I think that the sea air might be just what Fernando needs to regain his health. Stick him in up-front and stick Lamps in midfield. Other option is Cole who’s got a decent shot on him. (Maybe you too can shoot like a pro? Click here to find out.

Ok, now it’s time to start scratching the head with the more difficult ones. Bolton v Villa has potential. Daniel Sturridge goes in search of his fifth goal in as many Premier League games. The striker will face the worst away defensive record in the league, so he is likely to get it. Demba Ba is also worth a mention. He’s proven a handful for all defences he’s faced thus far. I expect he’ll prove a handful for Stoke also. Fulham can shut out Blackburn at Craven Cottage. They’ve had a solid defence all season. Schwarzer, Hangeland, Baird and Hughes are all good options. Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan and Spurs Luka Modric are each good picks.

And now the big one. The clash of Liverpool v Man Utd early on Sunday is sure to get the pulse beating. Liverpool were flying since Kenny took over, that is until they got a very stern dose of reality when beaten 3-1 away to West Ham last week-end. Here’s hoping that Liverpool are not as good as their last game, otherwise this is going to be a bit of a procession for Utd. I suspect they are and that we are set up for an outstanding clash. After losing to Chelsea mid-week, defeat for Man Utd is unthinkable. Arsenal have the easier run in to the title race, so anything other than a win would likely see Arsenal propelled to favourites for the title race. With doubts over the fitness of Andy Carroll, we have left him out of the reckoning but there’s still plenty to choose from. Can Suarez prey on an understrength Utd defence? Will Meireles recover from his knee knock to keep up his hot streak of form? Will an under strength United defence keep Liverpool at bay? Can Rooney, Berbatov, Nani get United over their latest hiccup and back on the road to another Premiership title. Tough to judge, but sheer entertainment value you’ll need to take a view, pick your players from this game and delay the roast until late on Sunday.

Only one more sleep before Gameweek 29 kicks off, so what you waiting for? Pick your team now and join in this week-end’s fun. After all, it’s not just a game!
