Indian Vibes.........

Post by Totelfootball »

There was plenty going on in the world of the Premier League during gameweek 17, as per usual the goings on were not just confined to the football pitch. The big stories involved Sam Allardyce and Carlos Tevez, we'll begin with Big Sam. His sacking came as a surprise, although it is unlikely the clamour over his dismissal will rival that of Chris Hughton's last week. Indian poultry group Venky's now own Blackburn, they see their new investment as a top-five Premier League team and believed Allardyce was not the man to lead them there, instead they led him to the managerial abattoir. Illustrious names like Martin Jol, Alan Shearer and Diego Maradona have already been linked with the vacancy, we are in no doubt that the Indians will deliver a tasty option.

Carlos Tevez did not play against West Ham at the weekend due to suspension, nevertheless he still made the back page headlines. It has been clear for a while that there has been something bothering Tevez, he has publicly quarrelled with his manager and complained of missing his young family in Argentina, although his performances have belied all of this. He has submitted a transfer request but City are obviously reluctant to let him go, even with all their money, who could they replace him with? Tevez is apparently unhappy with comments made by the City hierarchy which were aimed at his agent Kia Joorabchian, the statement basically implied that his transfer request was driven by his agent in a quest for more money. As West Ham and Sheffield United fans will testify, Kia Joorabchian used to part own poor Carlos, but didn't the slave trade end in the 19th century? Mind you, back then your average slave didn't earn over £5m per year!

On the pitch there were good wins for Newcastle, Blackpool, Aston Villa and both Manchester clubs. Newcastle and Blackpool shared the team of the week gong, many thought the Geordies would struggle against Liverpool due to all the upheaval whilst Blackpool were unfancied against Stoke, only Arsenal and Manchester City can boast better away records than the Tangerines. After their dull victory over the Gunners, United are now two points clear at the top with a game in hand. The fact that United remain unbeaten speaks volumes for their title chances, although can anyone remember United being so unimpressive throughout the first half of the season?

The weekend's star fantasy performer was Yaya Toure. He scored one, set one up and bagged the man of the match award against West Ham. Yaya is the highest paid player in Premier League history, his 5 year deal with City will earn him a staggering £55.6m. That's not bad going for a player who can list illustrious clubs like Metalurh Donetsk and Beveren amongst his former employers.

Weekend competitions now open on a Thursday morning at http://www.totelfootball.com/affiliate/fiso/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, try to contain your excitement until!
