Made of Stone.........

Post by Totelfootball »

A statuesque Blackburn defence suffered a torrid time on Saturday afternoon at the hands of a rampant and unbeaten Manchester United. The usually lazy Dimitar Berbatov, who tends to score his goals against weaker and beaten teams, helped himself to five goals; joining Andy Cole, Alan Shearer and Jermaine Defoe in an elite club of Premier League strikers who have bagged a quintet in one match. We are 15 games into the season and Alex Ferguson will no doubt have an eye on equalling Arsene Wenger's 'invincible' class of 2003/04.

It was a good weekend for the teams at the basement end of the Premier League, Avram Grant bought himself a stay of execution with a fine 3-1 home victory over Wigan. Another manager under pressure is Mick McCarthy, his Wolves side showed tremendous spirit in their battling win over high-flying Sunderland. Despite United's annihilation of Blackburn, performance of the weekend goes to West Brom. Their 4-1 win at Goodison was completely unexpected as they recorded their first league win in over two months, Everton had Arteta sent off but the Baggies were dominant in every department.

Tottenham's Aaron Lennon grabbed an injury time winner to consign Liverpool to yet another defeat, although on this occasion they deserved a share of the spoils. It was an entertaining game and Hodgson won't be too downhearted by his side's performance, a similar show will surely reap three points against a woeful Aston Villa this coming weekend. Gerard Houllier's injury ravaged team were cut down by Arsenal at Villa Park on Saturday, Robert Pires was largely anonymous against his former employers, thereby confirming the widely held theory that his legs are 'gone'. Despite the comedy goal gifted to Andy Carroll, Chelsea stunted their sequence of league defeats with a draw at St. James' Park.

There is no disputing the weekend's star fantasy performer, with a record 41 points the award goes to Berbatov. Dimitar says he learned the English language through watching 'The Godfather' films, we are sure Manchester United fans would urge their striker to emulate his movie idols and put more pressure on the opposition.

Gameweek 16 will open on Thursday morning.
