ChampMan Season 2 Chat
New season is setting up at the moment and first GW is next Thursday 12th Nov. Roughly the same set up as season 1 with a few tweaks and change in personnel here and there.
Will set up a FISO Mini League if anyone else is playing.

You'll soon see clean sheets can be in short supply, particularly for teams playing away from home. And home advantage was quite prominent in S1.
Defenders can do well for bonus points though and if you have someone like HH (Ipswich) it can help to balance it out a bit.
Have a look at this site that you can use to filter through last seasons data but with this seasons prices. Obviously theres been a few new players (and three new teams).

They have priced the players up pretty well i think, but keep an eye on a cheapie doing well. No price rises so planning it out is easier.

Re: ChampMan Season 2 Chat
The streams were a laugh last season. James from @PlantFPLPod did it like a pound shop Jeff Stelling but in reality it was way better. This season two lads from the @FPLWolfpack are doing it - should be good if their pods are anything to go by.
There's also a catch up/preview stream done by Luke d1sable (@ffscout_luke) who won S1 on a Sunday night that is worth watching. Also a podcast from @ManOnFPL is going to be ChampMan specific - they are slightly less polished but getting better every week.

I've joined.
Everyone feeling good about their GW1 drafts? Things are quite a squeeze budget-wise this season... and GW2 is already looking like a low-scoring affair.
Apart from that, mine's looking great

Re: ChampMan Season 2 Chat
Thought I would scribble down a few observations from playing the first season, on how this game differs from FPL. Obviously this is just personal advice and not 100% guaranteed to be the case again this season, so take from it what you will
Randomness...
I find it's easy to imagine that when you run CM0102, there's a tiny game of football taking place inside your computer. Not to be too patronising but what's really happening is that the program is generating every outcome randomly, essentially by rolling a lot of weighted dice. This can lead to some variation and statistical outliers, e.g. players or entire teams massively over/underforming their expectation. (Last season Middlesbrough were winning the league at the halfway point, and Dwight Yorke didn't have a single goal or assist until about GW25 despite playing week-in-week-out for Man Utd)
Where this particularly affects fantasy managers is squad rotation. Whenever a high-rep team plays a low-rep team at home, there is a chance of random rotation, and nobody is safe, not even star players like RVN, Henry, etc. There is no reliable way to avoid this because these types of player are the best in the game and you need to pick them anyway. You just have to be aware that it could basically happen any time for no reason (not like in real life when it's done just before/after UCL matches etc... they could rest their whole team when they don't have another match for 2 weeks). Having a deep bench is a good idea, though harder this year because player prices have risen in general. Also, pick a 'safe' vice captain every week to help you avoid the dreaded 'double bagel'.
...but strange lack of randomness
Random outcomes are hard to predict individually, but group them together and reliable patterns emerge. In terms of this game, what this tended to mean is that 'hauls' felt more predictable than in real football. If a star striker (Viduka/Shearer/Phillips/etc) has a run of good fixtures coming up, the weighted numbers favour them to such an extent that a brace/hattrick becomes likely at some point in the run. Usually in 'real FPL' it is not worth ripping your team apart to get a single player, even if they have a great home fixture next. In CMFPL, it actually could be. I took 9 hits last season (compared to 1 in FPL).
Fixtures
Have tended to be important predictors of performance. Luke (last year's winner) often says that form doesn't exist in CM - good fixtures beget good form. In particular, the difference between home and away seems to be massive, and looking for fixture runs where most matches are at home can pay dividends. For example, Blackburn set up completely different home and away - they were a top-6 team at home, and barely scored any goals whatsoever away.
Blanks/doubles
BGWs and DGWs are a common occurrence, and unlike real life, not concentrated around GWs 31-37. They can happen more or less any time for a multitude of reasons. I think the biggest DGW last season was gameweek 16 or thereabouts, so don't feel like you have to hold your chips to the end.
Last season we had two Leeds games rearranged with about a week's notice because too many of their players got called up for internationals and several games that got postponed then postponed again. So you can't really plan your way through the blanks/doubles with much certainty. Another reason to have a deep bench I guess
Strikers
Unlike FPL where midfielders are the hot property, strikers tended to hog the points in season 1 of CMFPL. At times, most players had three premium strikers - essentially pick three of RVN/Shearer/Viduka/Phillips with the likes of Rebrov, Jansen, Pedersen not far behind... A common attitude to team-building was 'pick who you want up front first then build the rest of your squad around that'. Worth mentioning that the organisers have tried to counter this somewhat for season 2: midfielders have largely dropped in price, whereas forwards and defenders have largely risen.

Re: ChampMan Season 2 Chat
Great write up caf, spot on.
(Blackburn have a new manager so they are less defensive away and stick more to one formation home and away)

Go on then. Lost interest in this last season as soon as FPL kicked in, and may be light touch again this year, but you've caught me on a day during the international break where I'm having to listen in to mundane mandatory office training!

Re: ChampMan Season 2 Chat
Lovely post there, Caf. Very informative for the newcomer and a good refresher for those of us returning for season 2!
I see ajcairns has mentioned the Champ Man Twitter feed and the YouTube channel - both are an absolute must for all the latest news and info. Live score updates are posted on the Twitter feed and they do a live video on their YouTube channel on Thursday after the games and on Sunday evenings too. I'll post the links here:
Fantasy Champ Man Twitter
Championship Manager YouTube channel
I enjoyed playing last year and even contributed some FPL-style graphics on Twitter (won't have time to contribute anything this year, sadly). I finished 555th after joining in GW5, I think that was somewhere around mid-table. It was a bit of a slog at times but there were plenty of moments of magic too (Viduka's 20-pointer at Southampton; sailing on the Gerry Ferry, etc.). I found the frequent fixture rearrangements pretty frustrating, all planning basically goes out the window, and joining in GW5 I was always playing catch-up. But I'm very much looking forward to season 2 and I've joined the FISO league as well. It would be Ruud not to.

Didn't even realise that was you, it all makes sense now.
I'm on the very boring Ruud (C), yes. Don't worry though, if there's one un-ruinable FPL player it's Ruud van Nistelrooy. The guy is a goalscoring machine.

The C stats on RVN will be ridiculous. Would be carnage if he is rep 12'd rotated and we all go with 20+ various VC picks.
