Currently driving

Post by sted »

A very well maintained 1995 BMW 525i.

After years driving the 'child friendly' Kia Sedona and Laguna estate, I went out yesterday and bought a blast from the past.

It drives and handles like a new car, and I went to work this morning with a great big smile on my gob.

Currently driving Mini 1.4 diesel. Low carbon footprint, economical and still fun to drive - feeling all the potholes though..... Use it for weekend trips with the kids (3 & 5) but it will be a squash soon. Got mainly for my commute (55 mile return) which used to be much lower until we had to move because my other half's job was relocated. Using public transport would take about 2.5hrs..... Mini takes 55 mins.....

Sted - I would love an old 3 Series. Have fun...

Still got the Land Rover Defender, although mileage this week so far is only 16 miles in the Landy compared to 58 miles on the bike, so my average fuel consumption is around 130 miles to the gallon at the moment

SAAB 1.9TID 9-3 Sportwagon ... seems not to guzzle until the foot is pressed quite hard. Far better on MPG than me old 206 GTI.

I put in the more refined diesel plus (or whatever called) from Shell garage last week. Meant to make performance better. Unsure what MPG happens though. Anyone?

We have just bought an Audi A3 5 door thing - with the super efficient diesel engine - £35 yr road tax - 1,000 MPG or something quite high.

I don't think my clients would be happy paying an unfit git like me to cycle 100s of miles on an hourly rates basis

Finally replaced the Land Rover with an E class Merc.
Well I say replaced. It's still sitting on the drive as I'm struggling to actually part with it.
The merc is a phenomenal car though. Will do 60mpg (supposedly 73 mpg but actually averaging 49, with 60 on a motorway run). Almost silent on the motorway, parks itself and will do 0-60 in 7.7secs, which isn't too shabby for a big family saloon. Bit of a contrast from
the Defender :-)

thats just over 110,000 miles less than I did last year, although admittedly most of mine weren't in a car.
