Wasn't something similar on BBC Watchdog a few years back about Ford Focus?
The dashboard cluster going wrong was a common fault although I have no clue what a dashboard cluster is.

Sounds like an adenoid problem.
Or maybe it's your accent?
:P

I had a Polo which used to either not start or, worse still, randomly cut out while I was driving it.
Turned out to be the alternator:
An alternator
problem
can cause a discharged battery, poor accessory and light
operation, frequent bulb replacement, repeat voltage regulator failures,
erratic engine operation, or a dashboard warning light to illuminate. To
pinpoint the cause, have your car's charging system checked out by a
qualified service technician. Life expectancy of the average alternator is
75-100 thousand miles.

Well It's currently fourth time unlucky. Sat in a car park awaiting recovery as it won't bloody do anything. We shall have an answer sooner rather than later. Lol

Bloke rocked up, looked at dashwhen i tried to start it and went, "That'll be your immobiliser in the key then"
I bashed the key a bit and it started again
On the plus side, i can keep the spare with me and confirm this easily, and it's relatively cheap and easy to get another key and programme it myself

It's not the key
It's now a permanent fault, which is great news, as it should be easy to diagnose now :D

Well i thought it was, until i fitted the towing eyes on both cars and then it started.
It's in the hands of the mechanics now

Went to my garage who cam eup with a load of instrument panel faults.
unfortunately they reset them before calling me
Took it to ford who phoned today saying they can't find anything wrong ....exactly what i was worried about.
They can keep it all week, but i know i'll have to wait for it to eff up again and take it back

Might as well get a new one mate.

£795 and 46 years newer than the one you've got.

(I'd check the solenoids on it though)

It goes on...sort of
Realised last week that the horn does not work.
Took it back to ford this morning, who looked at it, denied all responsibility, and said they'd need to keep it in to find the fault.
About an hour later I get a phone call, "hi, turns out it was a missing fuse. We won't be charging you"
Damn right you won't! Seeing as I haven't removed any fuses, so it could only have been your tardy mechanics

bustard - got a similar issue with the Landy.

sometimes just the click of the solenoid dropping and then nothing.

Got 2 batteries in it so switched to the new one and still the same. Sometimes it starts (and when it does it's first touch), sometimes not. Of course, when I take it to the garage it behaves itself perfectly

Resorting to sticking a new starter and solenoid on it. Too much risk of getting off a plane and it not starting at the airport to chance it. Bit of a fker though tbh
