La Log - 08/09 - FA Cup

Post by Zimmerman »

To make the season run in a bit more interesting, there will be an FA Cup stylee competition for La Log teams.

Format
5 rounds
1 off ties
winner goes through

In the event of a draw, the result will be decided by a "penalty shoot-out".
1) number of goals scored by defenders
2) number of goals scored by midfielders
3) number of goals scored by attackers
4) cheapest team

Fixtures
Round 1 - 25/26 April (week 7 of La Log)
To get us from 30 teams to a cup friendly number;
La Log average is elimated and 3 teams get a bi.

Round 2 - 02/03 May (week 8 of La Log)
13 winners from Round 1 + 3 bis

Round 3 - 09/10 May (week 9 of La Log)
Quarter Finals

Round 4 - 16/17 May
Semi Finals

Round 5 - 23/24 May
Final

Obviously by the latter rounds, the real teams could be rotating galore as they focus on various competitions... so it could get interesting (or annoying)!

Biggest giant killings of the round go to Division 1's Welsh Wizard and Chris Harry who overcome Premiership Villains, Ton (top of the table no less) and last season's runner up Gazwood.

There's a relative upset as previously unbeaten and high flying Mrs Bell is beaten by Takeshi Kovac (although he is reigning Premiership champion).

Suzykins almost claimed a Premiership scalp... and he would have if I had posted the scores last night (until I realised there was still a game to play). Sadly that additional game resulted in 5 more points for the Dr Bell and a 1 point victory.

La Log newcomer Erased Citizen claims a championship scalp (pa102aw) in another cup upset.

Despite being top of the Championship, Birchy was unable to overcome La Log whipping boy, Andy Jones. Granted, it went down to penalties, but the record books will show an Andy Jones victory.

Round 1
Takeshi Kovacs 52 v 47 mrs bell
pa102aw 49 v 51 Erased Citizen
Gazwood 33 v 39 Chrisharry12345
Mistercuts 33 v 21 Aknel
Karrde 31 v 67 Miles_T
dr bell 26 v 25 Suzykins
Ebbsfleet 26 v 22 Red_dog
Rainycat 20 v 32 Zarch
Kid Kongo 20 v 34 the doc
sdhough 60 v 39 Arsenal4EvERr
Andy Jones 31 v 31 Birchy
Andy progresses on penalties, no defenders scored, both had Young and Bent. Therefore it goes down to the cheapest team.
Demorgoth 15 v 40 Zita
The Ton 39 v 41 Welsh-Wizard

Only one match involved teams from different divisions (and that went the way of the favourite), so no giant killings this round.

Commiserations to Zarch, he loses out by a single point.

Bigger commiserations to ChrisHarry... he has the shame of losing to Andy Jones

Round 2
Goldenshilling 23 v 38 Ebbsfleet
Doggfazsha 28 v 18 Erased Citizen
Welsh-Wizard 18 v 45 Mistercuts
the doc 19 v 33 Zimmerman
Chrisharry12345 13 v 28 Andy Jones
Zita 8 v 23 dr bell
Zarch 22 v 23 Miles_T
sdhough 29 v 33 Takeshi Kovacs

These scores are not final. Although, from a quick glance it appears only Mistercuts has anyone involved tonight (Alves).

Doggfazsha 18 v 50 Ebbsfleet
Andy Jones 21 v 36 dr bell
Takeshi Kovacs 20 v 23 Miles_T
Mistercuts 28 v 28 Zimmerman

The final (and official) results will be posted tomorrow.

Mistercuts, if it stays as it is, I would progress on penalties (no goals score by any of our defenders, 2 from my midfield and only 1 from yours).

You only need a 7/10 or goal from the Brazilian. Its easily done (especially against that Newcastle defence).

Despite an average domestic season from Miles T, he's through to the semi final thanks to a victory over premiership Takeshi.

Zimmerman and Dr Bell maintain the formbook as both Premiership teams overcome their lower league opponents. Albeit, yours truly relying on penalties.

Ebbsfleet, having secured promotion to the Championship makes up the semi final quartet thanks to a resounding victory over fellow Division one team, Doggfazsha.

Quarter Finals
Doggfazsha 18 v 50 Ebbsfleet
Andy Jones 21 v 36 dr bell
Takeshi Kovacs 20 v 23 Miles_T
Mistercuts 28 v 28 Zimmerman
Zimmerman goes through on penalties: no defenders scored, zimmerman had 2 midfielder goals and Mistercuts 0.

Its commiserations to Dr Bell and Miles T as Zimmerman and Ebbsfleet progress to the final.

Having narrowly avoided relegation, Dr B narrowly misses a cup final berth.

Meanwhile, Ebbsfleet follows up his promotion to the Championship with a chance at cup glory.

Final to be played next weekend (of course).

Semi Final
Miles_T 25 v 29 Ebbsfleet
Zimmerman 39 v 29 dr bell

Ebbsfleet won the toss and gets the home dressing room for the final.

Final
Ebbsfleet v Zimmerman
To be played Sunday 24th May
