Football Pink Magazine - Help With an Article on Fantasy Football
Hi all
I'm writing a piece for the next issue of The Football Pink (https://footballpink.net) on the subject of Fantasy Football.
It will look at the formative years of the game in England, it's rise to popularity in the 90s and current guise as an Internet sensation.
I'm looking to get the thoughts and opinions from some die hard FF players and hoped I could contact someone/some people who regularly play and are FF-mad. I'd like to know what it is about the game that has grabbed your imagination; why you keep coming back to it year on year; and your general experiences of playing FF. Any quotes used in the piece will be credited.
If you would like to be involved, please don't hesitate to drop me an email so I can reply with a couple of questions. I promise it won't take much of your time!
Kind regards
Joe Carroll

Ps. Apologies if I've broken any forum rules in posting this kind of topic. I looked through the rules and don't seem to be at odds with any! I really just want to get the thoughts of the people who play the game so religiously.

Moved topic to a more appropriate forum, FPL may well be the most popular game now but the info you seem to be after pre-dates the existence of FPL by a good many years.

Has anyone played Telegraph Fantasy Football since it first started back in 1993? Looking to get the thoughts and anecdotes of people playing the Telegraph game back in early 90s.
Thanks
Joe

Yep I have, or maybe the year after. From memory you only had six transfers for the entire season and you had to use them in twos, so if you only wanted one player out you lost one of your transfers. Also you had to do all your transfers over the telephone on an automated system. Or post them to the Telegraph if you wasn't in a rush. I remember having to buy the Telegraph every week, Wednesday I think, to see the points collected and get the premium rate number in case I needed to make a transfer.Joe3Carroll wrote:Has anyone played Telegraph Fantasy Football since it first started back in 1993? I don't recall the "transfers in twos" at all. Are you sure it's not a trick of your mind?

At the start
Hey Joe,
Yes, I played the Telegraph footie game in 1993-94 and have chaired a prize league with office pals ever since (as well as FISO cash leagues over the last dozen years).
The Telegraph version was introduced by the paper midway through that season and was organised by Fantasy League* for a few campaigns.

Used to do postal transfers and there was room for two transfers per coupon, but I don't remember having to use them both as there were enough to do one transfer per coupon.hancockjr wrote:I don't recall the "transfers in twos" at all. Are you sure it's not a trick of your mind?

Thats how I remember it, I asked a mate who played it too and he said he recalled that being the case as well. It was a long time ago though.hancockjr wrote:I don't recall the "transfers in twos" at all. Are you sure it's not a trick of your mind?

I'm pretty sure, I asked a mate who played it at the same time and he said he recalled that being the case as well, it was a long time ago though. How many transfers do you remember it being?hancockjr wrote:I don't recall the "transfers in twos" at all. Are you sure it's not a trick of your mind?
