21/22 Press conferences

Post by Joccki_10 »

Villa will be without Ollie Watkins for the visit of Newcastle. Smith: "I don’t expect [him] to play, he's not healed as quick as we would like so far." Bertrand Traore is also sidelined due to a minor hamstring strain. "He will be out until just after the international break.”

Based on tweets from here https://twitter.com/City_Xtra I interpret it as:

Gundogan (trained today) and KDB (did not train today) but both is a wait and see. Foden definitely out.

Sorry, you are correct, i was just in the process of correcting my post. KdB has an ankle problem, hasn't been able to train, not clear if he'll be available to play.

Actual words spoken (according to BBC):

"No injury news, all good news. Kevin [de Bruyne] couldn't train today so yes he I suppose he is news. We'll see tomorrow how he is. [Ilkay] Gundogan has a little ankle problem we'll see how he feels tomorrow. And of course Phil [Foden] is still out."

I can't be bothered posting them all but there are lots of press conference nuggets on this BBC page:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/58278316. Quite a few with Covid. I have heard lots of reports that footballers, in general, are being idiots (IMO) and refusing to have the jab.

@ murf

De Bruyne is the one with an ankle issue. Gündoğan had a little disturbance (probably due to his shoulder) but trained today.

Hmm, interesting.
So, Gündogan’s “problem” has migrated from shoulder to ankle?
Wish I knew what to do as a Gündogan and Torres owner…
The former is getting precariously close to a drop and the latter must be under pressure from Jesus for his starting spot.

Ah well, I started the season with both primarily for this fixture so I guess I’ll hold. Fingers crossed!

Christian Pulisic has had a "positive [COVID] test" and will not available for the Arsenal game.

Varane and Cavani are close: “With regard to team news, that’s a boost as well, Edinson’s joined in, Raphael’s joined in and we’re getting fitter and fitter,” said Ole. “They’ve worked well. They’ve had minutes. We’ll see who’s making the flight down to Saints on Saturday.”

Rodgers coy on whether Vestergaard could start: “We’ll see. I was pleased with him coming in. He showed his composure. He’s still not up to speed fitness wise. We’ll assess that. Daniel Amartey has been fantastic when he’s come in.”

Rodgers expects Leicester to be more/less the same as game week one: “The squad will be about what we had last weekend. Ryan Bertrand won’t be available. It’s mostly the same, but Timothy Castagne will be available. James has looked fantastic in training, he’ll be okay.”

No decision from Nuno on whether Harry Kane will be included in this weekends' squad which travels to Molineux...

I am reporting what the BBC are reporting that Pep was reporting.

What MEN said PEP said:

"Gundo trained today but we will see ahead of Sunday.
"Phil Foden won't be ready until after the transfer window and Kevin [De Bruyne] still has a little problem with his ankle so we will see tomorrow."

Don't they do 2 press conferences, one for TV and 1 for written press or am I imagining that???

2 completely different quotes

There was a question regarding De Bruyne. Pep’s response was that he “could no” train today due to an ankle issue. “Could no” was later interpreted as “Gündo”.

I’ve seen this part of the press conference myself but be my guest if you want everything to fit into the media’s quotes.

I only posted it as it seemed odd that he wasn't available 🙄

He should be a good draft pick whether he plays this weekend or not.

Rafael Benitez: "We have some players that are coming back and still some players that we are missing. Delph has a problem with his shoulder, he will not be available. [He's] one of the names - I will not go with everyone."

Benitez is waiting to make a decision on the involvement of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Brighton, with the striker's training programme still restricted by a toe problem"

Calvert-Lewin has been playing through a toe injury in GW1+2.

Other key notes according to @ColmVHayes:

- Robertson fit, sounds as though he'll return to XI
- Decision on Watkins today
- Saka & Tierney in full training
- D. Llorente might be OK for 90
- De Bruyne not fit
- Boly & Mosquera training

Grrr...this weeks transfer in, just seen he is flagged now...but on the flip-side, Gundogan is first sub
