DGW27 Captaincy Thread - The City Edition
The best team has a double game week. Rotation will be a consideration. It probably comes down to which City player, doesn’t it?
So who will you be giving the armband to? (Not who is best - I’d prefer KDB but I won’t have him so probably Gundogan or Dias for me)

Surely Salah would be an option ahead of Ings on the poll!Smurphy's Paw wrote: 28 Feb 2021, 10:31 The best team has a double game week. Rotation will be a consideration. It probably comes down to which City player, doesn’t it?

I have a feeling I will find it difficult to choose a City player who pay twice with the volume of matches they have, so Salah is tempting.

Ings does have a double and is the most obvious Southampton option

Sorry. Having added Salah the poll has re-set. There are good reasons why I never normally set up the Captaincy poll!
To avoid the same happening if there is anyone else obvious that I have missed, apologies, please just vote ‘Other’ and explain.

Leaning towards Dias at the moment, as he’s more likely to play both than Cancelo/Gundogan (all three of which I own). He doesn’t get attacking returns, but he is a BPS magnet.
I fully expect Stones to be dropped for one of the matches (perhaps even the second of this DGW). That said, I’ve been tempted to bin Cancelo for Stones for a while...

Have it on Kane right now, vice on Dias. City's second game against So'ton is what, their sixth game playing midweek-weekend? After Manchester derby too..
GW 27 was a factor for me when buying Kane, his fixture looks the best. Antonio vs Leeds isn't bad either.

Really tricky choice this week, actually.
A City player perhaps isn't as obvious as it first seems. I have three of them who would all be great options, but difficult to predict who gets both games. With Kane and Salah both having plum home fixtures it's definitely not cut and dry.

Salah atm but I have plenty of time to concoct a cunning plan involving Vardy, a -4 and a relegation battle in the Divisional Championship

Re: DGW27 Captaincy Thread - The City Edition
Quite surprised to see the poll being so DGW-centric. United are very defensive in big games and City are happy winning 1-0. And then there's the rotation uncertainty. Meanwhile I can't see any reason whatsoever to go near Ings or any other Southampton player, it's essentially a SGW +2 for them anyway.
Kane & Salah are in contention for me and Aubameyang, Son, Bale & Antonio would be if they were in my team. Going with a City player would depend on confidence about gametime but Cancelo is my current thought.
Would be nice to have some flexibility with transfers this week but with Barnes & Maddison to sort out it's all a bit tricky. Otherwise I might be doing something a bit radical.

Re: DGW27 Captaincy Thread - The City Edition
I realise this is probably some principled issue that gets brought up from time to time, but I've always interpreted these polls as being the latter, here. Otherwise it's just a selection bias thing, surely more beneficial to get a hivemind discussion on who is the best captain for a particular gameweek.

Should be the latter but impossible to avoid bias so you end up with an even more useless poll.Nailer6245 wrote: 02 Mar 2021, 16:40 I realise this is probably some principled issue that gets brought up from time to time, but I've always interpreted these polls as being the latter, here.
Gundogan not starting tonight has perked my interest in him for the captaincy.

Me too, kinda. Ideally he'd come on and do something amazing, would make me feel a little more secure in captaining him and just forgetting about a hit for KDB.
TBH though, with the role KDB plays in that City team, part of me wonders if their main man is back now and he's the one to go for.

I have Gundog but sort of want a 1 point cameo. There are a few captainers out there but I also want to try and nullify any interest in him for the GW27 captaincy.Nailer6245 wrote: 02 Mar 2021, 19:09 Me too, kinda. KDB could come off early which would make him the best captain in my opinion. But value comes into play as well, and with GW29 to take into account, I think I'm going to stick with my current City compliment for a while.

For most of the above...
As for who to pick, not that long ago a Grumpy Old Gorilla I know complained that the lists were too long. Want shorter? It’ll miss some. Want left field options? It’ll be longer. But however long it is, including United defence because they’re defensive in big games was nowhere near my radar. What I did include were the dozen-ish players with best projected points across FFS & FFFix and, in both cases, Salah and Ings were the only ones to get a look in amongst a sea of light blue.
Re ‘best’ or ‘best you have’ - actually, also see above about me not normally doing it, I wasn’t seeking to be contentious.Smurphy's Paw wrote: 28 Feb 2021, 10:52 Sorry. Having added Salah the poll has re-set. There are good reasons why I never normally set up the Captaincy poll!

If you want to interpret my surprise at it being so DGW-centric as a criticism of FFS & FFF then by all means do. Algorithms miss important intangibles and always fail to account sufficiently for rotation risk.

Yes, there are 13 City options. They’re the best team with a double game week. That’s not an intangible. It’s a very tangible advantage for players who are already performing better than the rest.
Other than that I don’t really mind. I do remember why I don’t usually bother with the poll, it creates more criticism for the author than it’s worth. I look forward to yours next week

There was no criticism of the author, you just took it personally. Go back and read my original comment. If "quite surprised" is now to be interpreted as a slight then we have really entered the domain of Touchy McTouchyface.Smurphy's Paw wrote:Other than that I don’t really mind. To broaden the conversation (and perhaps explain my thinking a bit) I am beginning to wonder whether any City player is really captainable now. Occasionally maybe, when an important player was rested the game before, but even then it's not sure (and doesn't apply in a DGW). So maybe it would be better to have 3 cheaper options (= no Sterling & no KDB), settle to finding captains elsewhere and just take your City points when they come?

Spurs at home to Palace and Kane/Son are in as “others”. Ridiculous poll to be honest, especially considering Peps continuous rotation of players. My captain/vice this week will be Other (c) and Other (vc) ie. Kane/Son

Thinking that the City options are still best with the hope for at least 1.5 games (the 1 being SOU preferably!). Therefore I’ll be on the either Dias or Gundogan.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Dias gets a rest against SOU so think I’ll have to go with Gundogan.

Re: DGW27 Captaincy Thread - The City Edition
That's the problem. We could probably go close to naming Pep's XI for the Manc Derby. After that it's Southampton & Fulham before the CL R16 2L so you'd expect it to be back to the 2-3 changes per game routine to keep the whole squad match fit and involved and that means the roulette wheel will be spinning again. Predicting the team against Southampton is therefore very difficult to do.ajcairns wrote:Thinking that the City options are still best with the hope for at least 1.5 games (the 1 being SOU preferably!).
It's a real problem with Sterling, for example. I think he is one of City's most important players in Pep's eyes and will probably start both but if he starts only one it will be United and he has a godawful record against them. He has often done well against Southampton but that's no use if he is sat down for most of the game.
If, for example, Spurs went big again tonight I'd find it hard not to captain Harry Kane in GW27.

Re: DGW27 Captaincy Thread - The City Edition
United are nothing to be feared for City, really. No one would be in the least surprised to see City score 2-3 goals in the derby.
I'd definitely go KDB if I had him. He's got the best numbers in the game, is guaranteed one game against a terrible Soton or a not particularly great United, and then has a good chance of an extra game on top. I don't think it's worth a hit to get him however, so I'm regretting that second FT I burned getting Harvey Barnes in this week. I'll probably go Gundogan and hope his minutes are kind.
Salah (FUL) and Kane (PAL) are tempting alternatives, but still think I'll take 90+ guaranteed City minutes with a ceiling of 180m.

Not currently overly tempted by a Man City C.
Presently on Kane C, especially if he’s rested tonight for Vinicius (which I hope doesn’t happen, as I’m on TC Kane this week).

It might happen (Kane being rested) because Jose said he was going to rotate them...and then didn’t at the weekend. I posted a copy and paste of the tweet at the time
