Is there a risk of post-poned games becuase of covid? I'm planning on going two 4.5 keepers instead of 5.0/4.0 in case some games are post-poned.

Anyone entertained a 4.5 “set and forget”?

Seriously looking at Rodak for at least the first 10.

Martinez starts for Arsenal. Is this a rough sketch of what Arsenal’s XI will look like?

Arteta also said Martínez deserved it after his performances at the end of last season. Can't disagree there. Arteta seems like a real gent as well, good manager in the making I hope.

Yes to Arteta, and I fully expect to start with 3 Arse given how they played post Lockdown. Auba and Tierney plus Nkeitah or Martinez.

I'd love to be brave enough to pick Martinez. I do think Martinez has done well, but was the community shield the reward for last season, and now him and Leno compete for that league start?

Surely it's Martïnez his spot to lose. He looks more secure and confident than Leno and that oozes over to the defence. He's in my team, alongside Tierney, unless I get cold feet.

As above I started off with those two and Auba, but I'm not sure I want to carry the risk of Leno returning. Now if they sold him then 😊😊😊😊😊 but until then Saka or Nkeitah will be my 3rd

Rodak and Martinez is on the brain. Worst case scenario and Martinez don’t play, Rodak’s first 10 fixtures are pleasant enough.

Seems silly for 0.5m but I do have a soft spot for him since his loan spell down the Mol.

Is it worth it? Well, won’t be the be all, end all. I like Fulham’s opening games a lot, which gives ample time to look elsewhere.

Leno actually played half of their first pre-season game (before the charity shield) so its more than just being back in training

The uncertainty about who will be No1 leads to having to have a playing keeper as back up, negating the saving on Martinez in the first place
It would be easy to make a case for Martinez being No1 having retained his place
It would be just as plausible for Arteta to have rewarded Martinez with the Community Shield role as a thank you for his exploits last season and in winning the Cup. There was greater downside putting Leno straight back in for a game that didn’t really matter, coming as soon as it did in pre-season, with Martinez angling after a move if he’s not going to play. It would have impacted on motivation, and consequently on price if he is to move on

I don’t see much benefit in Arteta going public with his plans which is why I’ll steer clear for now

would be really nice if we could get some early teams news

Personally think the spot is martinez to lose, think Martinez had one training session and was immediately into the squad so willing to chance it, only thing is would i be getting a 4.5 or a 4.0 incase it back fires on my currently have a 4.0 In Nyland but apparently Steer could also get the nod

Arguably you’d need a 4.5 guaranteed to start (Ryan, McCarthy etc) to back up Martinez since Villa aren’t playing GW1 and might go for a different keeper to start GW2 than Nyland.

So McCarthy isn't looking to good. Fraser Forster was a solid GK once and could take his #1 spot back. Or maybe Gunn? I'd love to see Forster back with the bonus being his 4.0m valuation. Other 4.5m keepers play for leaky teams. Martinez would be my preferred choice to replace McCarthy.

From what I've seen so far (which isn't that much), Brighton look pretty solid.
Granted, they let in three against Chelsea, but I'm sure the xGA was closer to one than three.

Is Forster the best 4.0 option therefore?

McCarthy wasn’t terrible. Sons goals were basically all one on ones . Was a shambolic performance from Southampton .

This is true. But just like last week against Palace, McCarthy seems rooted to his line for one on ones, rather than coming out and narrowing the angle. Makes it very easy for the striker. I don't understand it, reminds me of watching my sons U9s team. Especially with Saints playing such a high line.

Why don't you add a poll and make one option read "nevermind, check the other goalkeeper thread three posts down from the one I just created without looking across the board if there is already such a thread in which this is discussed while learning my lesson for the second time in as many days."
