The grammar on FISO is quite outstanding

Post by Blaze »

I've been here for just over three years now, and one thing that I've always noticed on FISO is how almost every single person always uses correct grammar. I think I've only ever seen five users who don't!

The start of sentences, names and places are always capitalised. Punctuation is always used in the correct way. Spelling is of a very high standard.

This is in no way intended to be patronising by the way. There are a lot of stupid people on the internet these days with the increased popularity of social media.

This is like no other forum that I've ever visited, and I'm proud to be here. :)

P.S. - Sorry for this being off topic by the way, this post was directed mainly to people on the FPL forum, as I don't really post anywhere else on this site.

We're showing our ages. In the main, I think our grammar is better than many others on the internet because we are of the pre-internet generation. We spent many of our formative years writing with pen/pencil and paper instead of in chat rooms.

We had better discipline at school too I think. Well, maybe not. :)

That depends on whether it's used as a noun or an adjective.

The Internet is spelled with a capital I.
Heavy internet traffic is spelled with a lower case i.

At least that's how it seems to be spelled.

Well said. It does annoy me when people are too lazy to even attempt the correct grammar etc when putting a post together (not always as necessary for a quick throwaway response but do they really expect me to read a badly constucted, long post?).

We don't need things to be exact (My English isn't always great - who knew/cares that t'Interweb should have a capital I? - not me.) but I appreciate it when people try.

It's not even generally agreed on in dictionaries, and I would think the capitalised spelling is dying out generally.

 I need to watch this movie again!

I am somewhat surprised how utterly wrong the names of some players are spelled at times.

Like email, online, net and web, the internet should be spelt (NB not spelled!) lower case. Some people might cap it up in the vague supposition that it's a trade mark, but it isn't, it's just a word. As for capping it up when it's used as a noun - only if your first language is German.

I blame my browser's spell checker. Lol. I was sure it was spelt but the checker objected, and I chose to go among with it as I was on the move.
