So, thoughts so far… Italy, Belgium and England look like contenders. Spain, Holland and Croatia don’t. The others who’ve played so far weren’t expected to be.

Of course, three of the favourites enter the action today…

Well, obviously can’t count them out completely, they lost to Switzerland in their first match in 2010, but then again this lot aren’t exactly Iniesta, Xavi, Villa etc.

Hard to see where they’re going to find the goals to beat the big sides - not sure what their new keeper’s like on penalties…

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been called up to England's Euro 2020 squad to replace injured Dean Henderson.

Manchester United keeper Henderson has withdrawn from the tournament with a hip issue that would "continue to limit his involvement in training".

Was just looking up who our keepers were in 2018, what happened to Jack Butland, other than getting stranded in the Championship with Stoke? He was the next big thing once. Maybe ex-Forest bias but Karl Darlow has to be better than Ramsdale (assuming he hasn’t been capped by someone else by now?)

Two relegated keepers out of three has to be some kind of record, anyway.

Yeah, I did think of Pope afterwards, though he’s injured most of the time… Henderson may be #1 at United as well, though they seem reluctant to fully commit to moving on from De Gea.

Still nowhere near the depth at the position we had in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and Seaman in his prime was probably the last world-class English keeper.

Ronaldo becomes the first player to play in five Euros, and breaks the record for most major tournament appearances by a European (held by Schweinsteiger, surprisingly, I’d have guessed at Matthaus but I suppose there were fewer games in his day).

Wouldn’t surprise me if he turns up for a sixth in three years’ time.
