FISO Euro Cup 09/10 - a new side game
Roll Up Roll up, Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to a new side game for the Yahoo FISO League.
As I am already running a Knock-out Cup game which is much like the F.A Cup, this one is more like a Euro Cup. As you play in groups until the knock-out stage.
It is a very simplified version of a Euro Cup though. I have no knowledge of Excel other than adapting already set up files (a bit) which is what I have done here.
Rather than fill up pages and pages of FISO server space I have put all the data, like the fixture lists, tables etc into a 'free' website.
http://blueprint09.blackapplehost.com
The first page has the basic rules (repeated below)
"This is just an extra bit of fun to hopefully add to the Yahoo Fantasy Football game.
Only the 28 members of the FISO League can take part.
The game will start from Yahoo gameweek 5, to allow me extra time to set up the league(s) and web site.
I have split the teams into 2 leagues of 14 teams. Each team will play the other teams in their league home and away.
I will not use the actual Yahoo scores but will assign more normal football scores depending on the margins of victories.
Win = 3pts and draw = 1pt
At the end of gameweek 30
The winner of League 1 will play the runner up of League 2
The winner of League 2 will play the runner up of League 1
The games will be over two legs
Then the winners of these games will play over two legs to win the Yahoo Euro Cup
NOTE:
This is the first time I have attempted anything like this and have used free and bought Excel files to set this all up. I expect there will be errors and hopefully I can sort them out. But I am only adapting these files not setting them up, so if it all goes pear shaped I will knock it on the head."

Re: FISO Euro Cup 09/10 - a new side game
Just one or two things to clear up.
Fixtures:
I am not 100% happy with the fixture format. Many teams will play all or most of their first 13 fixtures at home and the second 13 away. So visa versa for the other teams.
I had no control over this, it is how the free Excel file I used for this feature, set up the fixtures, and I don't know how to change it. Not that it really matters as long as each team play the others home and away over the 26 weeks the competition runs.
Scoring
I do not want to use the results of the actual games as Yahoo scores can be odd things with half points and scores in the hundreds. So I want to adapt the scores to look more 'Football Normal'. I have not nailed down a formula for this and would welcome some input.
For example drawn games. Do I just stick to games that end up with each team having the same score (which is rare in Yahoo) or should I make any game that has only 10 points between them a drawn game?
I was thinking for the non drawn games, that for every (whole) 20pts more one team scores over another I would make them win by 1 extra goal.
So for example, if Team A scores 57 and Team B scores 99.5 (42.5 points more), team B could be allotted any of these scores.
0-2, 1-3, 2-4
Or am I making this all too complicated?
I will try and post the league table(s) in this FISO thread but they will be in the website.
http://blueprint09.blackapplehost.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Fingers crossed this all works, any problems write to your MP not me. I am only trying my best

Re: FISO Euro Cup 09/10 - a new side game
Can't believe I have had no feed back about this side comp
I seem to be flogging a dead horse, trying to get FISO folk to take to the Yahoo game, be it just joining or taking an interest once it starts.
If no one wants the side comp I may as well knock it on the head now save myself any more time and effort.

Re: FISO Euro Cup 09/10 - a new side game
How about this for a proposed scoring system, to make the scores look more football realistic?
For a Yahoo score of zero to 30 a team will score - Zero goals
For a Yahoo score of 30.5 to 50 a team will score - One goal
For a Yahoo score of 50.5 to 80 a team will score - Two goals
For a Yahoo score of 80.5 to 110 a team will score - Three goals
For a Yahoo score of 110.5 to 130 a team will score - Four goals
For a Yahoo score of 130.5 to 150 a team will score - Five goals
For a Yahoo score of 150.5 and above a team will score - Six goals
Then if the two teams fall within the same scoring margin the team with the highest score will then get One extra goal.
So for example
Team A = 39 - So will score One goal
Team B = 83.5 - So will score Three goals
Result 1-3 win for Team B
or
Team C = 66.5 - So will score Two goals + One goal for higher score
Team D = 63 - So will score Two goals
Result 3-2 win for Team C
or
Team E = 25.5 - so will score Zero
Team F = 29 - So will score Zero + One goal for highest score
Result 0-1 win to Team F
This will mean that, teams that have the same score will get a drawn game based on the same scoring system. For example
Team G =99.5 - So will get Three Goals
Team H =99.5 - So will get Three Goals
Result 3-3
I hope this makes sense and as I stated before (in earlier post), I would like some suggestions or ideas to improve this idea.
One thought, to make scores more 'Football Normal' would be to alter the lower scoring bands as scores of 1-0 - 2-0 - 2-1 etc are more the norm than a 4-0 or 6-2
This is why I am asking for suggetions
For a Yahoo score of zero to 30 a team will score - Zero goals
For a Yahoo score of 30.5 to 50 a team will score - One goal
For a Yahoo score of 50.5 to 80 a team will score - Two goals

Re: FISO Euro Cup 09/10 - a new side game
I have decided to simplify the 'Football Normal' scoring system a bit.
A team scoring between zero & 50 score = zero
A team scoring between 50.5 & 100 score = 1
A team scoring between 100.5 & 150 score = 2
A team scoring between 150.5 & 200 score = 3
A team scoring between 200.5 & 250 score = 4
etc etc
If two teams score with in the same scoring range the team with highest score gets an extra goal added.
I hope that all makes sense.
See first few posts for results and tables.

Right I have updated the scores for this week, see first few posts for data. You can also check out the web site, see previous post.
PLEASE NOTE
I am moving house next week and will be without the internet for a week or two (or 3 knowng BT), so no updates will be done in that period.
I'm pretty sure I will not take too long to catch up.

Sorry for not providing any feedback on the side game I only just realised I was in it!! This is my first time playing this format and will check it out and get back to you.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to manage the yahoo side of things - it's my favourite game and I don't know why everyone hates it so much

Ok, back in the saddle and back on line.
I have updated the league tables and scores in first few posts.
Unfortunately I am having trouble accessing the free web site I was using to display the scores, tables and fixtures . If this continues I may have to look for another free web hosting site to use.
Thanks for the kind words also.

Latest scores and tables in earlier post and the web site http://blueprint09.blackapplehost.com
League one has now got 4 teams on 21 points heading the table. I have lost top spot but only on goal difference. Team USA are now top dog in this league.
League two is being led by Chickity China but is being chased hard by frattonender. Unfortunatly RJ1 is the only team in the competition yet to gain any points.

I note that Yahoo tinkered with some scores last week games. Sorry to say I will not be altering whatever score you were given. I doubt many score have altered that much, as mine only went up by 2pts.
I can't second guess what Yahoo are going to do, so have to work with the data I have at the time of doing the leagues.

A pretty low scoring week so well impressed with Equipe Chat's Noir who got 76.5pts.
RJ1 recorded their first win. They were up against Jezinho who scored the only zero of the week. Picking players from abandoned games and having players like Drogba, who is playing in African Cup of Nations didn't help .

No real upsets in League 1 but league 2 had a few. The league leader Chickity China lost to Donegal Blues and RJ1 beat Crosby FC. Plus the fact that Rocket Fueled Monkeys only scored 12pts, what's going on in League 2

RJ1 has won again and drags themselves off the bottom of league two, better watch out guys he is making a late surge for the title.
Weirdly Yahoo are making the next 2/3 weeks games into one games week. So some teams play 3 times and the rest play 2 times. This may muck up my schedule a bit. There are 9 weeks left of league games and then there is meant to be two gamesweeks each for the semi-final and final.
Depending on how things pan out I may have to make the final and or semi-final over just one week and not two.

Team USA seem to have League One, in the bag, but in League Two its a fight between Tim's Titans and Chickity China.
Only 7 weeks (or so) left before the knock out stage so any last minute push to win a league had better start soon!
