Chillis:
Planted 70 seeds.
Germinated 47
Potted on 39

Most of the failures were in the first batch when i let them dry out. Doh!

Now have this lot potted on
Bhut Jolokia x5
White Habanero x5
Jalapeno x5
7 Pot jonah x4
Cayenne x5
Numex Heritage x1
Naga Morich x6
Fatalii x8

Will still have to thin them down before they get to the greenhouse

Kiz, how do you cope with so many plants? I tend to find that 4-5 would keep me going for a season - you must be supplying Tescos!

Keep the pics coming :D

I won't be growing so many to maturity.
Apart from the chillis, all the other seeds were dirt cheap in end of season sales.
I'll be using loads for sauces, jams etc. They also freeze really well for year round use

Will try an dupload some more photos later

Ok, so having nearly killed myself and gotten burnt to death, 6 ton of soil and compost are now in the garden
The old patio area was a circle set just big enough for a table and chairs. The rest of the area was random paving slabs with gravel inbetween. Pretty rubbish.
The patio will now be all slab, squared off, with a much lager border.

Ouch

On the plus side, the patio is finished, the border almost done, and i have spuds and onions in.
Greenhouse is currently getting fuller and fuller. It will only get worse

The patio finally finished, minus the sleepers that will border it with the lawn

Was busy in the one week of sun we had, but itnever bloody stops raining
Got loads planted up, filled the greenhouse, refelted the shed roof and painted it, and found time to build a pond and rockery

Greenhouse from outside. You can see a bit of the shed on the right. half the roof felt was missing and it wasn't waterproof,so needed doing.

I've always like alpines, so decided i would build a small wildlife pond and stick a rockery type area around it.
It's still not finished properly, but the bulk is there
pond jun12.jpg
Lastly, the main veg bed that is goign really well
The potatoes have gone beserk as usual and the earlies will be getting picked soon. Onionsin front doing well too.
The left hand side has various things in it, radish, swede, parsnip, lettuce, peas and a few others i forget. All just starting

Cayenne
Jalapeno
Scotch Bonnet
Naga Morich
White habanero
7 Pot Jonah
Butt jolokia
Fatalii

Think that's everything
Have at least 2 of each in a bucket, and any stragglers in any old pot i could find around the place. Somewhere around 25 in total

Had the first major batch of spuds, garlic and onions. First attempt at garlic, and they are reasonable sized and have split into cloves, so a good first try.
Having a mare with greenfly in the greenhouse, but hopefully winning the battle now. No sun doesn't help either. Plenty of cayennes and a few jalapenos. Shed loads of peppers and toms.....just a shame everything is green and showing no signs of ripening.
The superhots are all beginning to flower, but no fruits yet.

It all looks good to me. :)

My broccoli, kale and runner beans are doing terrible. Stunted growth and decimated by slugs and snails. My celeriac seems to be doing okay but is way back from where it should be.

I have never seen so many damn slugs and snails
They've decimated the cabbage.
Do have some peas and parsnips going ok. There's some lettuce that isn't doing much too

Really impressed Kiz.

As much as I love my apartment, overlooking a park in Amsterdam, I do sometimes think that having a house with a garden is going to have to be the way forward. Just a shame I can't afford anything that size here!

However my basil plant is going great guns!

End of season update:
Shit
Awful year for veg growing all round, especially chillis. Virtually nothing ripened except the jalapenos.

2013

Started later this year as i had way too much stuff around the house last year.
Chillis, toms and peppers are in thier first pots. not as much as last year thankfully!
Had some major issues with a broken thermostat on the vitopod and it took 2 weeks to persuade them that the sale of goods act cannot be superceded by a warranty. It's been collected for fixing, so hopefully have it back soon.

Chillis this year:
Butch T
Jalapeno
Cayenne
7 pot jonah
Choc habanero
Aji Limon
Scotch bonnet

Am going more towards fruit this year, as veg is still quite cheap in shops, but fruit is far more costly (and i much prefer fruit :D )
Been reading the James Wong homegrown Revolution book and fancy trying:
Cucamelon - weird mini, sour cucumbers that look uber cool, like tiny melons
Tomatillo - prime salsa ingredient
Goji berry
Cocktail kiwi - skinless, small, and one plant can produce 20kg of fruit in a year
Pineapple Guava

First day of no rain in weeks today, so got the greenhouse cleaned out and ready.
Looking forward to another season 8-)

I've just taken over a plot and I'm beginning my grow-your-own adventure. I've not got much idea what I'm doing yet, most of the time I seem to be moving piles of crap from one place to another and then setting it on fire. Which is OK.

I did a bit of digging at the weekend but that killed my back so I sat in the shed and looked through the old owner's stuff, I think he died suddenly and everything was left as it was for about a year, and I'm told it belongs to me now. He seemed to collect lots of jars of oil and loads of pots containing rusty bolts. Also found a petrol strimmer and a brush cutter which I fired up and they seem to be in good order. I've also inherited a load of good tools, a shed, a greenhouse, some lovely chinos and an anorak. Can't find any porn yet, surely all allotment sheds contain porn?

The plot is quite big, about 120 feet by 30, it has 8 really large beds and a few smaller ones, I've covered half of them with plastic and tried to work out what to plant where in the other ones. I like the idea of raspberries, strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes and onions, maybe some greens and I am also thinking of getting a few fruit trees as I'm likely to hang on to it for a good few years. It's nice and private, surrounded by hedges and trees, so alternatively I could make a nice big lawn and build a tennis court.

Might come on here now and again Kiz and ask your advice about stuff :D

Bloody hell mate, you've struck gold there. Shed and greenhouse for nothing!
You need to start your own log and add a fe piccies ;)
The best thing you can do is spend soem time down there chatting to your neighbours. They will be able to tell you about any problems the old owner had (clubroot for example) and what grows best on the site. They'll also tell you what can go in now
Best advice is what youare already doing i think. Cover anything you're not using while you plan. get some stuff inasap though :D

I have just given up a plot that exactly fits that description :o after 8 years we have surrendered our plot.

We now have a big garden though so I literally have a blank canvas on which to create a super plot - which includes an inherited bunch of fruit trees and which I have already planted out the rhubarb, gooseberries and a few other berries. its quite a task though - i will post some photo's of how it develops. Also have a big greenhouse but that needs assembling.

The only problem at the moment is deer, pesky things.

Oooh, picture time
Been a busy four days off, with the garden needing some major weeding, tidying etc.

Finally got around to finishing the lawn edge of the patio. Only has one lone lavender right now.

Found somewhere to put the plastic greenhouse. Also built a support structure for the raspberries next to it.

Wires up on fence for blackberries, strawberries in and covered.
