How to take cuttings from bay trees.

As requested. Here is the Glyn1972 guide to taking cuttings from plants we can eat part one.

Some debate over when. Have heard October, late winter, or when convenient.

I would remove all but three tip leaves from each,
and cut those remaining leaves back by 2/3 of their length. Put
the cuttings in mixture of 80% perlite and 20% leafmould. Water and allow to drain, then seal in a transparent
plastic bag. Put in a bright window in a nice warm room and wait.

It might help to score the cut ends, and hormone rooting powder might
also help.

Leave well alone for 12 months.

What about following that procedure but without the bag, less perlite and leave outside? Would this just lengthen the procees or doom it to failure?

Could always try leafmould mixed with a bit of sharp sand. I know your kitchen to be an ideal room.
