Initial Thoughts on Selection

Post by CptPugwash »

My Initial planning on these tourneys is to plan round the teams first, and then see if there are exceptional individuals that justify being selected secondly.
To that end:-
Firstly: 3 Brazilians, I can not see any reason why not, unless by any chance there happens to be a ridiculously under-priced Mexican. That ties up the planned first set of 3 transfers. So...
Secondly:2 My other 12 players are fixed for the first 2 sets of fixtures, and at least 9 are fixed for all the group matches.
I have compiled a ranking of the attractiveness of fixtures for the first 2 games, out of a maximum of 10. As it happens this list of 9 countries happens to be the same 9 countries in the ranking for all group fixtures, in a slightly different order. (first 2 games ranking given first then all group games)
1 - Arg(10) 2nd(9.21)
2 - Bra (9.46) 1st(10)
3 - Fra (6.02) 6th(3.79)
4 - Germ (5.62) 4th(5.00)
5 - Belg (5.31) 5th (3.91)
6 - Col (4.95) 7th(3.45)
7 - Spa (4.89) 3rd(5.04)
8 -Ita (4.83) 8th(2.49)
9 - Ura (4.54) 9th(1.77)

Argentina & Brazil are so far above every one else that my selection demands 3 Argentinians too.
Ideally I'd like the remaining 9 to come from the teams listed above, but that means a large degree of compromise within those teams, so I have listed some other teams to consider for bargains.

10 - Jap (3.81) 15th(1.03)
11 - Equa (2.88) 16th(0.89)
12 - Nigeria (2.65) 22nd(0.34)
15 - Russia (2.26) 10th (1.75)

Of these 4 - only Russians would possibly be kept for the final fixture.

finally first planned set of fixtures.
3 Brazilians out to...
Most of the rankings for the final 2 set of fixtures correlate to the all group fixtures listed above. However the other 3 to consider are:-
5th Holland (5.25)
6th Portugal (5.06)
10th Bosnia (3.96)
The 2 dropping out of the top9 are France & Uraguay.

It depends what your aims are.

If you want to win a superleague, then that's a pretty good team, if you want to win the game, you need to think leftfield and pick some players who will score huge points but not get selected by the masses.

I'm researching Japanese players at the moment, and watching highlights of the past football season in Japan.

Most people are tipping Columbia.

In that group you have Greece and the Ivory Coast.

Japan are unknowns to me that is why I'm researching them.

Oh dear, Uncle Bryn's turning Japanese - I really think so!!

If Ivory Coast really defecate on grass, why does Drogba spend so much time rolling around on it?

Don't you just love it, when you do a whole heap of calculations, then realise you've misread the rules.
I'd assumed, as it was the mirror, that it would be a whole squad play game. Hmmm... if anyone was wondering what the first post nonsense was about, it turns out it was... well nonsense. (well an abstract piece of analysis.. but relative nonsense in terms of Mirror World Cup FF).
Anyway rejigged team.
____
Cesar (BRA)
____
Silva (BRA)
Zabaletta (ARG)
Rojo (ARG)
Pereira (URA)
_______
Vidal (CHI)
Riberry (FRA)
De Bruyne (BEL)
________
Neymar (BRA)
Lukaku (BEL)
Higuain (ARG)
________
Subs
Dominguez (EQU)
Janmaat (HOL)
Sneijder (HOL)
Ozil (GER)
_________
The whole of my starting XI has theoretically easy opening games.
Dominguez covers Cesar for round 2 (v Honduras)
Dutch pairing are for round 2 (v Australia and possibly round 3 v Chile)
Ozil should be a deffo keeper for at least round (2&3).
The 3 Argies should in theory be there for the long game, That's hopefully 7 picked for round 2, with 3 transfers and plenty of options for the other 4 slots.

I agree entirely, in every FF game except this.
The trouble with Colombia is that they have 3 good group games. In this format (with 4 bench warmers and 3 transfers per round) you should be looking for stand-out fixtures in every round. Colombia don't quite qualify for that in any of the 3 group rounds. Though if anyone wants a group phase long enabler who you want to play in at least 2 rounds, Colombia would be the place to start.

Nice subs and strategy. Maybe you should have another look at the rules regarding subs though.
