I haven't played TFF in a while before this season. I'm a bit confused by the 1.4 factor. I thought that was to even out that more points are scored in FPL. After this factor my two teams have a very similar amount of points yet me FPL team is doing really well in 5th place whereas my TFF team is languising in 26th place. Is the factor to high and is this causing a overall bias towards how well each managers TFF team is doing? Would it not be better just to add up the total position of each team (e.g. mine would be 5th+26th=31) and rank the teams that way? Overall points added together could be used to split ties.

Obviously this cannot be changed for this season, with money riding on the outcome but an idea for next season perhaps?

This is a game devised by DixieDean which I took over on a caretaker basis as he was not able to devote the time to running it or be on FISO as much so I wouldn't like to make big changes without running it by him first.

The 1.4 factor is just to even up the scores between FPL and TFF.
The idea of the combined game is that it is real test of FF skill. You have to do well in both games to do well in the combined score and that takes skill.
eg Nedved is top in the combined league because he is performing well in both games. Doing well in just one is not going to win you the Combined title although I'd like to be in the position where I was doing well in at least 1 of them!

Perhaps another way of expressing WHATEVER's point... I just noticed how different the points spreads are in the two games. There's 200 points splitting top and bottom in the FPL league, and (after the 1.4x calculation) a whopping 460 points splitting top and bottom in TFF. (Even if you removed the 1.4x, the TFF spread is about 325). This means that positions in the overall league are dominated by TFF scores, as the variation in FPL scores is much less - and exacerbated by the 1.4x factor on TFF.

As WHATEVER said, I think this could be food for thought for next season.

Every season I've done this the scores have varied widely between the two games so I don't think there is a perfect answer. Originally I increased the TFF scores by less but that seemed to skew the points even further at the time. Each season is different I suppose.

I can do tables with no factor and a factor of 1.2 or so and see how it looks and what the spread is like so it can be discussed if you like.
It's always good to get feedback on how to improve the game.

I'd take the average scores from this year for the top 10 teams in the combo comp for each of FPL and TFF, and use that ratio as the multiplier for next year. Just my thoughts.

Thanks reds, you make the point I was trying to more elquently than I did.

Becuase the points in each game will vary each season I don't think any factor will guarantee to even up the scores. Whereas we are all playing against each other, so taking the (lowest) combined places seems to me a good way to even things out as it does not take specific score into account. Otherwise you could (in thory) win the whole competition by doing really well in one, e.g. win FPL overall but do very badly in TFF but you have so many FPL points, winning the FPL league by such a huge margin, you come out on top of the combined points table.

Thanks for updated tables... For what its worth , i think the ratio is about right. Its a different type of game ,and adjustments for transfers etc make the TFF game a bit hardfer than FPL in my opinion. Its very easy to chase fixtures ,and blow those tranfers in a vain effort to catch up/consolidate.
It takes a lot of skill, and a bit of luck to do well in both... Ahem...

Better week for me this time around - second highest score of the week and I've actually made it into the top half of the table. Now all I need to do is make up 300 or so points to catch up with the leaders

Thanks again for the update Surprised, especially as I've managed to move up another few places.

I see that, as usual, now we are getting to the business end of the season the top places include most of the cash league boys. Nedved now has a 100-point lead at the top, but you can get big swings in this combo league as we've seen in previous years, so this one may not be over just yet.

Thanks for update.. Getting tight at the top. Its times like this when i wish i had hugged my tortoise guys a little tighter .. My FPL form has gone a bit pear shaped, & these pesky DGWs will make or break my season. Giroud (c) last week was a poor decision. Bah.
