*** TFF/FPL Combo 2013/14 - Rules + Sign-up ***

Hi all

It's that time of year again and with FPL up and running and the imminent launch of TFF I thought I'd start up this thread for people to show interest in playing this season. ( I will be running it again if DixieDean hasn't got the time)
The rules are pretty simple so please have a read and then post below if you would like to play.

Once I've set up the leagues I will start sending out the codes.

For my spreadsheet to work I need to know your team names in each league so once you join PLEASE POST YOUR TEAM NAMES ON THIS THREAD.

Due to the T&Cs on the TFF site this is only open to residents of the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland (unless you can find a way around it).
Rules
(1) You will enter a team into both competitions and then join the respective leagues set up by me. I will need a post on this thread from each member that contains their team names.
(2) The game rules and scoring set up by TFF and FPL will apply to your respective teams throughout the season.

Entry Deadline:
Kick is 12:45 (UK time) on Saturday 17 August.

Any entries after this deadline will not be entered into the competition and removed from the league.

League Codes:
League codes will be sent to everyone interested once they are set up.

TFF League:
This will be a closed league so that it represents the typical way TFF is played. ie. You will not be able to see other players' teams like you can in FPL.

Gameplay:
Each week your teams' scores will be combined into a Superleague that I will post on FISO. Your TFF score will be factored up by 1.4 to equal out the scoring systems.
Gameweeks will be based on the FPL structure (see below).

Gameweeks:
The combined league will be posted after the final match is played and scores updated by TFF and FPL in each week.
Gameweeks will be based on the FPL GW rules - These are listed on the website.

League tables will be posted weekly as far as I am able

Combo Cup:
Later in the season I will set up a knock-out competition to run alongside the main Superleague - Just to keep your interest up!!!

Cash League:
Hancockjr has said he is happy to run the cash league again this season.

One question - is the 1.4 factor staying the same? I remember last year that factoring TFF scores up by that much meant that your TFF position was by far a greater factor in your combined position. FPL total scores are generally a bit higher yes, but I think the variation in scores is the same, if not lower, in FPL.

Anyhow whatever is decided I'll play again and would be up for a cash league again, thanks!

Thanks for the stats! Interesting... also interesting would be some measure of variation, if you have it? A crude measure would be for example: what was the points difference between 5th and 20th in the TFF league? And what was the gap between 5th and 20th in FPL?

Re: The scoring. I'm pretty sure I originally set it up as 1:1.2 and changed it the last season I ran the game to a higher ratio. So maybe my original ratio was correct all along?

I think the year I took over (2010/11) 1:1.4 was a decent ratio but scoring must have changed in one of the games in 2011/12 and the ratio reduced.

So the 1.4 factoring was actually very good last season (I wasn't expecting to see that, but stats don't lie!) - it meant that you scored almost identically the same by coming 5th in TFF and 20th in FPL, as you would by 20th in TFF and 5th in FPL.

Look back at 2010/11 though and the FPL difference is 110 and TFF is 166 - if factored by 1.4x that would be 232. So that year you'd have been waaaay better off coming 5th in TFF and 20th in FPL, than vice versa.

But factor up 5th in TFF (any season) by 1.2 and you get close to the FPL score. Same thing for 20th. It doesn't seem to work like that for the extremes ie 1st and last but that's to be expected really. Problem with factoring up a variance is that if scores are close in one of the leagues then it skews the uplift.
