Cup comps underway 2013/14

Post by snout »

Four victories out of four for me. Two of them by one point.

I need to qualify without burning too many transfers as I've already used up far too many. Almost given up in my ISO team because of injuries!

And of course I've forgotten that this weekend's fixtures all count so no victories yet!

This has been my worst ever season :-( two teams in the Sunday League and two in the Lower League competition. A win and a loss in each last week :-(

Yes, four different ones. I really splurged out this season!

Well. five, if you count my Pro Auction league, where I've made it through the Europa League stage game, having finished second in our league last year (would have won it if they hadn't changed that Arsenal assist on the last day!).

Back in the Classic game, one team in Champions League (W2), two in Europa League (both W2) and one in Lower League  (W1 L1).

That Benteke consolation won me a tricky tie for my Lower League side by 32 to 29 in a very high scoring tie. It wiped off his two clean sheets for Arsenal and my bringing in Giroud for the tie bumped me up from a draw to a win. Puts me second with the top three all on 6 points. Could prove to be crucial in a very tight group.

In the Europe League, drew 13-13 and am top of a 7-4-3-3 point spread group.

Squeaked home 19-18 and 21-18 in my two CL groups and now top with 9-6-3-0 in both.

Europa League  Played 3 and Won 2 (6-6-3-3) Giroud cost me the win
Lower League  Played 3 and Won 3 (9-3-3-3)

Last week I was behind by 4 going into the final match Man City v Chelsea with my only differential being Ivanovic :) Thought I had no chance, but luck was on my side. That put me top but a loss would have left me 3rd. Very close, only 3 points separating the whole league going into this week.

This week I lost 26 -15 lucky I had a good goal difference as the 3rd & 4th teams beat the top two leaving us all on 9pts. Amazingly I'm still top by +3 GD. (phew!).

Roll on the knockouts, although I would appreciate no more Hazard hat tricks. :D

All four teams went through OK. Three had a bye and the other one scraped through, despite my forgetting to manage it last week (beyond Supersubs anyway).

Important to note there are no ties this week due to the FA Cup QFs. We pick this up again next Saturday.

And... just noticed that the Champions League comp hasn't even started yet. So my team's bye doesn't come into play until the first round next weekend.

Presumably all the other comps (Lower, Europa, etc.) are into KO round 2 by then.

One through and one bye, but since I had an itchy transfer trigger before Christmas I don't have many left to get far in the cups

My one and only team to qualify for the ko's (out of 3) made it through but I don't fancy my chances this week as I ony have 1 transfer left and my oppo has 5. I figure my best hope is to play my 2 Gooner defenders and John Terry in the Arse-Chels game and hope for a boring 0-0 draw like it was in their earlier game in Dec, then I'll be on my way!

One down, three through.

With the one that went down, I did use all 5 of this month's transfers in an effort to win. Some things just aren't meant to be but at least I gave it a go. :)

Think I'm going to suffer at least one casualty this week.

I've had a pretty disaterous OFL season all round and these cups no different. Two of my three teams bombed out in the group stage and the third dropped down to the Lower League.

But up this week against a transfer-less team with RVP and Aguero as his two strikers. Watch this go badly pear-shaped too

Can see some unmanaged teams getting lucky if they have Suarez and Yaya from the start.

33-13 up 8-)

I benched Vertonghen last Sunday when 5 points ahead, just in case he had a mare. Don't think I need to do the same tomorrow :)

33-37 down in my lower league team with Ward-Prowse (yes, I know), Vertonghen and Fonte to play again Boruc, Shaw and Vertonghen. One transfer left for each of us. So I suppose I have to hope for a Spurs goal fest and use my last transfer wisely.

The Europa League team that got knocked out last week is also on 33 points.

The other Europa League team is 24-30 down. Each of us has a Soton and Spurs defender left. I have 3 transfers left to his one so some hope here.

The Champions League team is 27-42 down. Game over.

Oh dear, no Adebayor for Spurs. I may have to entrust Mister Soldado with any hopes of progression.

I'm doomed!

Oh my, I think that Benteke goal has just won me two ties.

And the Odemwingie goal confirms it in one of the games.

However I am now stuck with some crap players!

With my two remaining teams I was winning both games before today.

The first team were safe as long as Erkisen did not score. That team is now four points behind, so I had to use two changes and bought in Benteke and Delph. Now one point up, but only two changes left.

The second team was four points up before the Stoke game and opponent has Odemwingie. Watch this space.
