murf's Early Doors Cup 2013-14

Post by murf »

After 2 years away...it's back.

Welcome to the first running of the first Premiership Predictions cup of the season since 2010/11. It is based on the scores in the revived and rebadged 'FISO Goals'.

Note: To play you must sign up to the league (see bit in blue below).
There is no need to declare an interest on this page.

If you look back on the 2010/11 thread it was won by TheTon who beat barrydixey 7-5 in the final. In 2009/10 it was flyingkillercob who beat Big Bird 6-4 in the final. If I get time I will trawl the archives for the historical results and to see just how long this has been going (10 years including the recent break???)

This and the other cups (Knockout Cup and CL Stylee Cup) which will follow are effectively informal/unofficial side competitions run by me using scores in the formal/official FISO Goals competition.

It is the appropriately named 'Early Doors Cup' and works on a 'devil takes the hindmost' system of eliminating the lowest scorers each week until we get a winner.

The Timetable:

Set 1 17 Aug just practice - unless we get over 128 entries!
Set 2 24 AUG, All entries whittled down to 64
Set 3 31 AUG, 64 down to 32
(international break)
Set 4 14 SEP, 32 down to 16
Set 5 21 SEP, 16 down to 8
Set 6 28 SEP, 8 down to 4
Set 7 5 OCT, 4 down to 2
(international break)
Set 8 19 OCT, The Final

(dates are first date of 'set' and are all currently saturday - all subject to change if the fixtures do or I've cocked up)

If we get over 64 entries by Set 2 then the entries will close and competition will start then. If not then entry will stay open until we get 64 or, at the latest, when Set 3 starts. If my some miracle we get over 128 entries then the comp will start in Set 1 (if we get to 128 after Set 1 starts then the entry will be closed so we start Set 2 with1 28)

In Set 2 the top 64 in that set will go through, in set 3 just the top 32 of those remaining will go through etc etc until Set 8 when the two (wo)men left standing fight it out in the final.

In the early rounds if there is a tie all teams on that border will go through. e.g. if 6 teams are level for 31st place in Set 3 they will all go through so we have 36 teams left rather than 32. Those in 37th etc are out. The next week we would still be aiming at 16 remaining (as opposed to half the teams).

In sets 6, 7 and 8 there will be tie-breakers in effect as per previous years' rules. Therefore there will be only 4 semi-finalists, 2 finalists and one winner.

To enter you need to sign up for the Early Doors Cup 2013/14 minileague:

You'll need to go to the FISO Goals site section of FISO
- click the 'fiso Games' logo/link at the top of most pages.
- select FISO Goals
or just go here:
- Click 'My Mini Leagues' on the left of the new page
- enter the following into the 'Join a Mini League' boxes:
League ID = 31
Password = <changed, league now closed>

- click the box marked 'Join'

Cut-off = you need to be in by first kick off, set 2 (currently 3pm Sat Aug 21st) to guarantee yourself a spot.
(If we haven't reached 64 teams by then we will keep entry open until we do - or at the latest the start of Set 3 15:00 Sat 22nd- if we get to 128 by Set 1 then that number of teams will necessitate an earlier deadline)

Newcomers (FISO veterans and newbies alike) more than welcome.
As this is my own private comp, I'll be reserving the right to not admit or throw out anybody who doesn't treat FISO properly and doesn't post in good spirit. As a rule of thumb this will mean you are banned if you are on my foe list so essentially they'll just be troll-free.

Don't forget to enter your picks on the FISO Goals site section of FISO - click the 'fiso games' logo/link at the top of most pages.

I've joined but I'm not yet showing on the actual mini-league table (and nor are some of the others who've posted above) - any ideas?

murf's correct, new FISO goals players should appear in leaderboards once the first week results are in. Only those with history will show at the moment.

I'm in, but will struggle (as usual) to remember to enter my predictions each week.

By the way, I had to use the link in the first post, as I couldn't find anything on the FISO menus about FISO games.
Is this some sort of profile option?

admin is looking at putting some sort of button or dropdown option back onto the site but, in the meantime, there is a link in the news 'ticker' on each page which is a good shortcut in.

I always wondered, whether you missed a week, if a default scoreline would kick in for each game - say 1-1, or 1-0. Would at least give you a chance of scoring some points if you forget.

I've also got a sidegame lined up, which will kick in October, once this has finished.

Don't worry about overlap because I will have a comp of some sort on the go all season  Once this is done we move on the Knockout Cup and after that the CL Stylee Cup. No rest for the pickers.

I'll let the noobies get to grips with the concept of FISO Goals first before I start.
