Newcastle's game at Birmingham, which was postponed last month due to heavy snow in the area around St. Andrew's, is currently rearranged for Tuesday, February 15 - but is subject to change depending on City's progress in the FA Cup.

Following discussion with the Premier League and the Football Assocation, the following scenarios exist:

1. Should Birmingham's FA Cup fourth round match against Coventry on Saturday January 29 end in a draw then the replay will take place on Tuesday, February 15. In these circumstances United's league fixture at Birmingham will take place on Wednesday, March 16.

2. If Birmingham beat Coventry and progress to the FA Cup fifth round, Newcastle's league fixture will take place on February 15 as is currently scheduled.

3. If Birmingham lose to Coventry on January 29, The Magpies' fixture at Birmingham will be moved to the free weekend of FA Cup fifth round - February 19 or 20.

Asian Cup finale

Post by SamD »

Asian Cup semi-finals:
Tues 25 Jan Japan v S Korea
. . . . . . . . . . Uzbekistan vs Australia

Fri 28 Jan Third place
Sat 29 Jan Final

So Cahill, Schwarzer, Park, Lee, etc are staying in Qatar through to the weekend. And is it feasible that the eventual champions will then travel to their home country for national celebrations before returning to the Premier League? If so, with recuperation from tournament and jet lag, don't expect affected players to be selected by club managers until Sat 5 Feb at the earliest.

No chance (except for Torquay v Crawley or the like) - it's a full international week and England are playing!

Am I right in saying, now that Birmingham have got to the League Cup Final, the re-arranged game with Everton on Wednesday 23rd February will now be called off as well.

Perhaps some fixture expert can confirm if this is correct or incorrect.

The FA will be hoping that Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City avoid the need for FA Cup fourth-round replays this weekend.

With internationals and European fixtures due to resume next month, midweek replay dates are more troublesome to find.

And for the three Premier League clubs concerned, draws with Fulham, Huddersfield or Notts County respectively this weekend would almost certainly mean the rematches taking place on February 19, the date set aside for the fifth round.

As a full programme of top-flight matches is scheduled for next midweek, and England tackle Denmark in Copenhagen on February 9, fourth round replays are scheduled for February 15-16.

However, Tottenham and Arsenal have Champions League matches that week, whilst City travel to Greece for the first leg of their last-32 clash with Aris.

The worst-case scenario for the FA would be all three cup ties requiring replays, then all three teams being drawn in different fifth round ties to each other, which would mean just five out of the eight matches being played as planned.

The knock-on effects could send the entire competition out of sync, with either internationals or European games filling every midweek between the sixth round on March 12, and the semi-finals, which are due to take place at Wembley five weeks later.

Would add an interesting element to fantasy planning. Come on Notts County and 'uddersfield, its your big chance for publicity and for screwing up FF managers who have been too profligate with transfers.

Talks involving the Football Association, the Premier League, Chelsea, Everton and Fulham are ongoing in an attempt to stage the Stamford Bridge replay on Feb 15.
That would force the rescheduling of the champions’ Premier League trip to Fulham, pencilled in on Feb 14. But a failure to bring the Everton replay forward to Feb 15 could lead to the postponement of the league game against Manchester United on March 1 which may not be able to be rescheduled until May.
As of last night, Everton officials were proceeding on the understanding that the Chelsea replay would be at Stamford Bridge on Feb 19 – fifth-round day.
The FA remains hopeful that an agreement can be reached for the Chelsea v Everton replay to be staged on Feb 15, with the winners then facing Reading four days later.
However, should the fourth-round replay take place on fifth-round day, the winners of the tie would then face Reading on Mar 1 or 2 because the FA Cup takes precedence over league fixtures.

Confirmation of the new date for the West Bromwich Albion v Wolverhampton Wanderers match.

The fixture has been moved forward from Tuesday 22nd February to Sunday 20th February because of an agreement between the two clubs following their elimination from the FA Cup.

The local derby will now kick off at 12pm at The Hawthorns.

This site claims that the winner will play Villa on 1st or 2nd March - the midweek reserved for 5th round replays.

Assuming City win it, we already have a home game against Fulham on Mon 28th Feb. We also play on the following Saturday 5th. Something would have to give, presumably the Monday night PL game being moved to 16.00 on the day before (Sunday 27th)? [edit] Can't revert to Sat as we have a Thu night Europa game beforehand.

IF Chelsea beat Everton.

If either side advances to even the Quarter-Finals of the CL, the next free date is April 20th.

Why didn't they do a back-to-back when they initially rescheduled it and have it on May 11th, the Wednesday after the 'return' fixture? No chance of that being moved.

In answer: there are currently too many factors for anyone to state with certainty when outstanding fixtures affecting MU, Chel, Arsnl & Spurs might be settled.

At the moment, midweek dates in April and May are available (see below). But, in particular, if some or all the four top clubs do not progress to the semi-final stages of the FA Cup or Champions League then other midweek options will open up.

Updated fixture grid for rest of season (as before, aim is to cover main domestic & European club competitions):

2 UEFA taking 4 weeks to play one round of Champions League
