I've just been updating my fixture grid and noticed that the BBC have changed the Liverpool v Arsenal match on 19th April to OFF. Does anyone know why? I know that Arsenal will hope to be playing Chelsea that weekend, but they've still got to get past Hull first. There's nothing on the Liverpool site, while the Arsenal site is tempting fate by listing the potential semi-final, but it still shows the Liverpool match as on too.

Seems strange unless they are planning to rearrange for a date in the near future and there wouldn't be time to actually arrange it and sell tickets etc if they were waiting for next week's Hull game.

April(??) 5th Match

Yes it will be put back if they are chosen for Europe on the Tues night

BUT

1 UEFA have said that Liverpool will not be made to play on
April 15th (Hillsborough)

2 ITV always want Liverpool and Man U on seperate nights so they
can show them all the time

3 Man U will play on April 15th (Weds)

4 Which means they are 95 percent certain of playing
on Tuesday 7th

PS Unless they actually play V Liverpool in europe

and now Sky will have to cancel a second game

Wigan v Man U scheduled for Sunday April 19th at 1330
will have to be moved

and Sky's third game that weekend is Arsenal at Liverpool :D :D

Re: Bear's query and Judio's answer, the Man Utd site also includes a kick-off time if the Old Trafford match is rearranged:

"in the event that United reach the Quarter Finals of the Champions League and are drawn to play on Tuesday 7 April, this match [vs Villa at 4pm on Sun 5] will move to Saturday 4 April KO 12.45pm"

To complicate matters, that's Grand National day in the north-west

not to mention a birthday...

Does that mean it would stay as a Sky match (assuming it was in the first instance)?

Yes, MU-AV is Sky's live match at 4pm on Sun 5th.

Blackburn v Spurs has already been arranged for 12:45 on Sat 4/4.

Due to Manchester United's FA Cup semi final against Everton on the 18th or 19th of April, Latics will have their game moved for the second time this season, the first at Old Trafford was moved due to the Red Devils playing in the World Club Championship.

The televised game will now be played on the 12th or 13th of May with an 8 p.m. kick off.

Cup push...

Post by SamD »

New date: Wed 22 April - Chelsea v Everton; live on Sky Sports, ko 20:00 BST.

Above league match is moved from Sun 19/4 as both clubs are contesting FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley that weekend.

Incidentally, Man Utd v Portsmouth has already also been scheduled for 8pm on Wed 22/4.

2009 Fixture Changes

Post by SamD »

Looking ahead...

A few remaining Premier League fixtures may move by a day or two for Sky/Setanta TV coverage in May or to fit in with the Champions League quarter- & semi-final dates. Otherwise, only two more league games need to be rescheduled because of FA Cup semi-final commitments:

- Wigan v Man U from Sat 18 April; possibly to Tue 12 or Wed 13 May (as mentioned by Latic above)?

- and one of these, depending on whether Arsenal or Hull win the delayed Cup quarter-final on Tues 17 March (or any subsequent replay):

Sunderland v Hull from Sat 18 April
Liverpool v Arsenal from Sun 19 April

As the Liv-Arsl game is already earmarked for Sky coverage, would guess it could be re-arranged for Tues 21 April (Sky are already due to cover Chel-Eve live on Wed 22 April). Alternatively, there are two spare midweek dates in May, even should both clubs progress in the Champions League.

If it got moved to the 12th May it would mean Arsenal play Chelsea home then Liverpool away then United away in the space of a week. I guess they'd try to avoid that.

National moves?

Post by SamD »

If the Arsenal v Hull FA Cup tie isn't settled tonight, the replay will take place on Grand National day, Sat 4 April.

So two Premier League encounters that weekend would be postponed:

Arsenal v Man City, 15:00
Hull v Portsmouth, 15:00

Interesting point Sam

FA Cup takes preference over the League !!!

Now the match has been won Sky will have to Cancel a THIRD
game of their scheduled Coverage over FA CUP Semi weekend

They wanted to Show
Chelsea v Everton
Wigan v Man U
Liverpool v Arsenal

Now NONE of those will be played that weekend

So what will they show instead???

ITV have one semi
Setanta have the other.....

Semi day

Post by SamD »

The seven Premier League fixtures due to be played at 15:00 on Sat 18 April don't seem to be of the calibre that Sky normally broadcast towards the end of the season.

But rather than have a blank weekend while ITV and Setanta bask in the glow of their Wembley Cup semis, perhaps Sky will dip into their remaining allocation of live games* to move, say, one or two of these to 12:45 Sat 18th and/or 13:30 Sun 19th:

Aston Villa v West Ham
Man City v West Brom
Tottenham v Newcastle

* Incidentally, does anyone know how many PL matches are still left to be taken up by Sky (of their 92 allotment)?
For info, this page reveals that Setanta have five more to choose of their 46 TV games this season:

City v West Brom is likely (although not guaranteed) to be moved to the Sunday anyway due to a UEFA Cup QF on Thu 16 April so that would be the logical choice for a Sunday TV game. Logic however often doesn't enter into it. :)

I make it that they've picked 78 of their 92 games (discounting the postponed Wig-MU and Liv-Ars games)

I bet sky will want to pick both of those games back up, maybe say one each night on the free midweek of Tue 12 and Wed 13 May - leaving them 12 matches to show in the final four weekends.

TV games

Post by SamD »

Thanks, red. And, of course, the other limiting factor in choice of matches is that each club must be televised a minimum number of times each season.

Of the three Premier League matches postponed from Sat/Sun 18/19 April because of the FA Cup:

- Liv-Asnl could be rearranged for Tues 21 April and Sky TV, as speculated above this Monday. Arsenal would have three days to recover following the Wembley semi on the 18th and Liverpool a week from their Champions League QF 2nd leg exertions on the 14th

- Chel-Eve is already earmarked for Sky coverage on Wed 22 April

- Wig-MU tie looks set for Tue/Wed 12/13 May and so should retain its Sky live tag.

I think the Packages have a Maximum of 5 per Club

So Setanta can only pick ONE Man U game

And Sky can only pick 4

Luckily for them there are only 5 Man U games left

So they can still be shown every week in May

Final Cup move

Post by SamD »

A date has just been set for the only remaining postponement. This is from club site:

Manchester United's postponed trip to Wigan Athletic has now been rearranged for Wednesday 13 May, KO 20:00 BST.

The Premier League visit to the JJB Stadium was postponed following United's progression to the FA Cup semi-finals where they will face Everton at Wembley.

The clash with Steve Bruce's men, which will be shown live on Sky Sports, is sandwiched between home clashes with Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Reds enjoyed a memorable day at the JJB last season after clinching a tenth Premier League title and, regardless of what Liverpool and Chelsea do in the coming weeks, United could seal an eleventh triumph at the same ground if they win the next eight games (including the match at the JJB).
