The European Leagues decided to stop the Memorandum of Understanding as a complaint to UEFA over their new proposals to re allocate Champions League places

Re: 2016-17: Fixture Schedule and Changes
Teams used to play three games in a week on occasions in the old days of Zenith Data Systems Cups and the likes... Tues/Thurs/Sat or Sun is more than do-able with today's squads, when they did it in the 80s/early 90s. Not much different to the Christmas programme anyway.

If Man C win the replay then
Man C v Stoke will move to Weds March 8th at 8 pm
And remain live on Sky
On a Champions League night
Admittedly one with no English club
Valencia v Real Madrid was on last night. Finished before the CL games kicked off but still a sign that the rule is probably dead-ish.

Re: 2016-17: Fixture Schedule and Changes
I think it's still in place, as per this and this.
A quote from the former: "Until now, under an agreement between UEFA and EPFL, domestic top-flight fixtures have been outlawed whenever Champions League fixtures take place. But the so-called Memorandum of Understanding could be ripped up if UEFA continues to bend to the demands of the Continent’s elite clubs and refuses to amend the changes. That would then give individual leagues carte blanche to cause considerable disruption by scheduling mid-week evening games against the Champions League."

Is this 100% confirmed? - just seems odd that the Stoke game is rearranged with just 1 week's notice.

Yes it was on both clubs Websites on the Monday after the 5th round match was drawn.

Well you can scrub the * that say due to Arsenal playing in the QF of the champions league.
When will they fit in the games already missed? Arsenal /saints and Man Utd/Man City and the games that will be postponed next FA cup weekend?

Man City are already struggling, which is why they will be playing on 8th if they win tomorrow.

Re: 2016-17: Fixture Schedule and Changes
This is pure conjecture on my behalf but, with the City games, I think we need to wait until after 11th March to find out.
Sky (or BT) are hoping City get through against Huddersfield tonight and then also beat Boro on Mar 11 so the City v West Brom game on Apr 22 gets postponed for an FAC semi. At that point, they can schedule the West Brom game Apr 25/26 and the United game midweek just before the end of season. They want that derby as late as possible in the season so they can bill it as, e.g., Champions League decider, to boost ratings.
If they had to choose now, e.g. if City go out tonight, I'm fairly sure the clubs would insist they pick the Apr 25/26 slot for the United game.

Sky realised Rachel Riley had no purpose on the show
The small print is ONLY UP to 10 games a season.
However in 2019 onwards the New Sky TV Deal will have 190 Live games
I can guess that a Friday night only package will be sold
And the PL will hope that a THIRD broadcaster will pick it up even if has say only 14 games in it

I thought it was the scheduling of suitable games that proved a bit of a "conundrum"... I suspect the idea will be quietly dropped unless they revamp the Europe/domestic cups format in the next year or two.Judio wrote:They are rubbishreds363 wrote:What happened to Friday night games? I hope not, though it does seem like an ideal package for a FTA broadcaster.forestfan wrote:I thought it was the scheduling of suitable games that proved a bit of a "conundrum"...
