Changes

Post by SamD »

Last year, the first BT/Sky TV rearrangements were announced on Fri 3 July 2015. Here's the Premier League plan this season:

Changes for broadcast selections

The first changes take place when the League’s UK broadcast partners announce their opening group of live TV matches. This happens in early July and contains broadcast alterations for the first two months of the season (August and September).

TV matches for October and November should be confirmed and announced in early August. For fixtures from December onwards, live TV matches are mostly confirmed on a month-by-month basis.

The Premier League will seek to confirm live TV matches approximately five or six weeks before the start of the month in question. For example, December selections are typically confirmed in mid-October.

The broadcast selections for the season’s final round of fixtures on 21 May, 2017, are usually announced after every club have completed 37 matches. As these matches always kick off simultaneously, there is no direct impact on match-going fans, in terms of rearranged dates or kick-off times.

All playing each other once home and once away? Who'd have thunk it?

I'm guessing he means that the 15 games coming out on 15 separate weeks happened last season too? Which is quite surprising, you'd think there'd be at least 1 or 2 weeks where 2 of the games coincide.

I know why the Liverpool v Burnley games were switched but why is the March one at 4pm on Sunday - is it already picked by Sky!?

(The April Liverpool switch is to avoid playing on the Hillsborough anniversary in case anyone was wondering).

Mersey clash

Because Everton are already at home (to West Brom in the Premier League) on Sat 11 March.

FA Cup quarter-finals are also set for that weekend so either or both Merseyside-based league matches may yet be rearranged.

Hull City vs Southampton is at 14:15 according to the beeb. Swansea vs Man United is at 15:00, but expect that to change to either 14:15 or 16:30 because the PL seem to insist on Sunday matches starting at set times lining up with TV matches.

So, either there is no mandatory ruling that a rearranged fixture should line up with a TV game or the Swansea-Man Utd kick-off time will change.

Current Premier League schedule on Sun 6 Nov
  • 12:00 Arsenal v Spurs - live on BT Sport

14:15 Liverpool v Watford - live on Sky Sports
    14:15 Hull v Southampton

    15:00 Swansea v Man Utd

16:30 Leicester v West Brom - live on Sky Sports
For info, both Southampton and Man Utd are engaged in Europa League group ties on the previous Thurs, Nov 3rd.

Reminder of transfer rule for those playing the Telegraph FF game
  • There must be at least a two-hour gap between two scheduled match kick-off times in order for transfers to be made between matches and score from the next Scheduled Event Kick-Off. If the gap is less than two hours and/or if matches overlap, then the earliest kick-off time of these matches will be deemed the transfer deadline.
